Showtime’s ‘The Borgias’ Renewed For Third Season

4 May 2012 11:27 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Four episodes into its second season, Showtime‘s Renaissance drama The Borgias has been renewed for a 10-episode third season to premiere in 2013. Production is slated to begin this summer in Budapest. The second season of The Borgias launched with 604,000 viewers, down 43% from last year’s series debut. (The premiere’s total has since grown to 2.6 million.) Still, the Jeremy Irons-starring drama is the most watched of Showtime’s current lineup: In its most recent airing, it drew 579,000 viewers at 10 Pm, vs. 474,000 for Nurse Jackie and 429,000 for The Big C. There is no word on the fate of those two comedies, with Nurse Jackie‘s chances looking better. The pickup brings The Borgias closer to the producers’ goal to wrap the story in four seasons, as revealed at TCA last summer. It also comes on the heels of the competing European-produced Borgia series being renewed for a second season. »

Thor, 2011.

Synopsis:

Stripped of his powers by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is exiled to Earth where he discovers what it takes to become a true hero.

Much like Iron Man, Thor was finally getting his first big screen film adaptation after a lot of stop-start movie productions (although his first film appearance was in The Incredible Hulk Returns in 1988). After finishing Darkman in 1990, Sam Raimi pitched a Thor movie to 20th Century Fox who apparently did not understand it. It wasn’t until the success of Bryan Singer’s X-Men that Fox thought they could get »

TV Review: Amazing Actresses Anchor Showtime Season Premieres of ‘Nurse Jackie,’ ‘The Big C’

8 April 2012 7:08 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Emmy-winning “Nurse Jackie” starts its fourth season and the highly-acclaimed “The Big C” joins it for its third on Sunday nights starting tonight, April 8, 2012. While both shows have been frustrating at times over their runs, it’s impossible to argue with the talent that Edie Falco and Laura Linney bring to these shows, respectively. I have a clear favorite but it’s nice to have both ladies back on the most crowded night on TV.

On that note — it’s hard to believe that Falco, Linney, and Jeremy Irons are on one network on one night and that network is Not the clear critical favorite for the evening. While “The Big C,” “Nurse Jackie,” and “The Borgias” will have their fans, it’s not a lineup that compares to AMC’s “Mad Men” and “The Killing” Or HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” “Girls,” and “Veep” (the latter two are »

'Fifty Shades of Grey': Let's cast the whole movie!

6 April 2012 2:14 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Before the movie version of mega-best-selling erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey was officially announced, we named our picks to play the two amorous leads, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Now that we know that the film is really under way, we’ve cast the net wider to imagine actors in a bunch of the smaller roles. Author E L James drove a hard bargain when it came to fielding offers from movie studios — she and her agent, Valerie Hoskins, insisted on script, director, and main cast approval.

It’s apparent that James and Hoskins are doing what they can »

TV on Blu-ray Round-Up: ‘The Borgias,’ ‘Archer,’ ‘Jersey Shore’

5 January 2012 12:49 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – A number of recent TV seasons hit DVD and Blu-ray right after Christmas, hoping to get a share of that gift card balance burning a hole in your wallet. If you have any left, we thought you might want to know the details so you can plan your assault of the local Best Buy or fill your Amazon cart. This is a Round-up feature that serves mostly as information, letting you know the synopsis, tech specs, special features, etc., but if we had to pick favorites, FX’s “Archer” rules. It’s the best of the bunch, but, honestly, all four should satisfy fans (even if “The Borgias” is annoyingly light on special features). Yes, even “Jersey Shore.”

All four titles were released on December 27th, 2011.

The Borgias: Season 2 TV Show Trailer: Jeremy Irons, Colm Feore

The Borgias Season 2 Trailer. The Borgias: Season 2 TV show trailer stars Joanne Whalley, Jeremy IronsFrançois Arnaud, Holliday Graingerand, and Lotte Verbeek. The Borgias’ plot synopsis: “Set in 15th century Italy at the height of the Renaissance, The Borgias chronicles the corrupt rise of patriarch Rodrigo Borgia (Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons) to the papacy, where he proceeds to commit every sin in the book to amass and retain power, influence and enormous wealth for himself and his family. The unbounded audacity of this original crime family went on to inspire Machiavelli’s The Prince and Mario Puzo’s The Godfather.”

I was hoping The Borgias had not been canceled and I am glad to see it was not. I wanted to see certain story lines continued.

The Borgias also stars Peter SullivanAidan Alexander, Ruta GedmintasRonan Vibert, David Oakes, Colm Feore, Joanne Whalley, Mark Noble, Luke Pasqualino, »
