Cast: Keri Russell, Jennifer Coolidge, Bret McKenzie, Jj Feild, James Callis, Georgia King, and Jane Seymour.
Official Synopsis: Jane’s life-size paper doll of Mr. Darcy and her “I Love Darcy” tote may be tattered, but even in her thirties, she hasn’t grown out of her obsession with all things Jane Austen. Careworn by love, she saves enough to fulfill her dream of stepping into Austen’s world and heads to Austenland for an “immersive” vacation to eschew all things modern. And it couldn’t be more perfect. There’s an imposing manor with verdant grounds for afternoon promenades, rosy-faced servants, trusty steeds for hunting expeditions, gilded drawing rooms for evenings spent in polite conversation, and, yes, gallant young suitors. Unfortunately, due to limited funds, she’s relegated to lesser quarters and drearier costumes than fellow bachelorette guests, but her »

This lively comedy about two American women's fixation with all things Austen is a warm, literate treat, but it suffers from a less than immaculate structure
After the breakout success of Bridesmaids, one could have been forgiven for expecting a slew of cash-ins, but, unusually for Hollywood, little more in the way of female-friendly comic entertainment has so far emerged. The indie world, however, is taking up the slack, and after last year's word-of-mouth hit Bachelorette, Sundance this year premiered a bigger, broader and slightly more mainstream bid for the chick-flick dollar with Austenland – a little shrill at times but fun, warm and, for once, making great play of an almost entirely female-focused cast.
Based on the novel by Shannon Hale, it stars Keri Russell as Jane Hayes, a 30-something single girl with an unhealthy obsession with the Regency world of Jane Austen. In a last-ditch bid to get this out of her system, »

Jane Austen Will Have Her Revenge: Hess’ Debut a Pandering, Middle Class Courting Cipher
Jerusha Hess, screenwriter of Napoleon Dynamite, which her brother Jared Hess directed, turns her to sights to the adaptation of Shannon Hale’s successful novel, Austenland for her directorial debut. If 2007’s The Jane Austen Book Club didn’t feel enough like a resolutely ridiculous enough caper to the insane Austen mania that’s had book clubs and perennial film adaptations going strong for several decades, Hess’ film confirms the disturbing social tendencies reinforced by these mob think Austen obsessions on display here. Instead of exploring some of the subtext of what’s really going on here though, Hess rides the film into broad romantic territory. While there’s certainly an audience for this corrosive reinforcement of gender norms, for those that have been clued in to the cruel crookery of what real love looks like »

“Gigolos in top hats.” That’s a delightful way to describe the Mr. Darcy-types in Austenland, a comedy from first-time director Jerusha Hess (cowriter of Napoleon Dynamite) that stars Keri Russell as a woman who spends her last dime to visit a resort where Jane Austen fans go to role-play. Russell and Hess, along with producer Stephenie Meyer and costars Jj Field and Flight of the Conchords Bret McKenzie, stopped by EW’s Sundance interview lounge today to talk about the film — and the possibility of a Twilight resort — with Anthony Breznican.

Park City, Utah — Stephenie Meyer knows all about obsessive fans. So it makes sense that the "Twilight" author should produce a movie about a woman who takes another writer's work a little too much to heart.
Meyer is a producer on the Sundance Film Festival premiere "Austenland," adapted from her friend Shannon Hale's novel that follows the romantic misadventures of a Jane Austen devotee.
"Austenland" stars Keri Russell as a woman named Jane who is so fanatical about the "Pride and Prejudice" author's fiction that she blows her life savings to visit an Austen-themed British resort. Jane is so fixated on finding her own Austen-style suitor that she has a life-size cut-out of Colin Firth as aloof suitor Mr. Darcy in a BBC production of "Pride and Prejudice."
"I have seen firsthand fanatic fans, passionate people who want to live in that world so badly, who want to be a part of it, »

It stars Keri Russell, Jennifer Coolidge and Jj Feild. What It's About: "An obsessed Jane Austen fan lives out her fantasy at an 'Austen' themed resort. There she navigates the delicate line between fantasy and reality and discovers what she really wants." What's It Really About: "It's a story about wish fulfillment -- about that thing you've always wanted and when you get it, it's not what you expected. But really truly it's just a very fun rom com."
