Sequels are awesome, plain and simple. Returning to familiar characters and worlds we love is like covering yourself with a warm blanket, although when a sequel is bad it can be like a blanket covered in potato bugs and lice. Studios love sequels because seven times out of ten they open huge, no matter how good they are.
With that in mind, here's 50 of your favorite titles all preparing to get new installments. Some of them are deep into pre-production while others have barely gotten out of the pitch stages, but you'll be salivating at the thought of some of these sweet babies finally making their way to the screen.

This week sees the release of break-out, blockbusting comedy, Identity Thief. The film reunites director Seth Gordon with his ever-likeable Horrible Bosses lead, Jason Bateman, whose mild-mannered businessman Sandy Bigelow Patterson becomes the victim of the hapless titular criminal. Once he decides to travel from Denver to Miami to confront the deceptively harmless-looking culprit (played by Bridesmaids scene-stealer Melissa McCarthy), hilarity ensues. To celebrate Identity Thief reaching our shores, we at Thn have selected our top five classic comedy duos.
Eddie Murphy & Nick Nolte in 48 Hours (1982) & Another 48 Hours (1990)
The awesome director of genuine classics, The Warriors (1979) and Southern Comfort (1981), Walter Hill, played a masterstroke by pairing gruff sourpuss Nick Nolte with fast-talking comedian Eddie Murphy in the early eighties. 48 Hours sees Nolte’s hard-nosed cop, Jack Cates, reluctantly teaming up with Murphy’s wise-cracking criminal Reggie Hammond, who’s temporarily paroled to help Jack track down a killer. No, that headline is not misspelt. The Dumb & Dumber sequel is one of those projects that keep floating around the agonising limbo area just shy of actually being in production. Filmmaking brothers the Farrellys have been talking it up in recent years, while Jim Carrey has always been more reticent. But now he appears to be seriously on board with it, telling Access Hollywood that both he and Jeff Daniels are “excited” by the idea of reprising Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne.“We’re talking about it,” he told Access. “Jeff and I are really excited about it and hopefully next year we’ll be able to do that and get it together.”Peter and Bobby Farrelly have been trying to get them both back for ages now, and have long since plotted the new film – called, assuming this sticks despite giving our grammar-loving brains a headache, Dumb & Dumber To »

Actor Jim Carrey spoke recently with Access Hollywood at the premiere of his latest film The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, about making a new Dumb & Dumber film.
Carrey said:
“We’re talking about it. Jeff and I are really excited about it and hopefully next year we’ll be able to do that [and] get it together.”
The original Dumb & Dumber was released in December of 1994. The film is about two buffoons (Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels) who go on a cross-country trip to return a briefcase to a woman (played by Lauren Holly) that Carrey’s character has fallen in love with. Trouble finds the two main characters when it turns out that the woman’s husband has been kidnapped and the briefcase they are carrying contains ransom money.
“Kick his ass Seabass” is a popular quote that originated from the film.
It was directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly with a budget of $18 million. »

The sequel to Dumb and Dumber could be filmed next year, according to Jim Carrey.
The Farrelly brothers' long-awaited follow-up to their 1994 comedy hit signed screenwriters Sean Anders and John Morris last year.
"We're talking about it," Carrey told Access Hollywood. "Jeff [Daniels] and I are really excited about it and hopefully next year we'll be able to do that."
Carrey reportedly dropped out of the sequel last summer, but Daniels confirmed two months later that the film would go ahead with both he and his co-star attached.
Carrey and co-director Peter Farrelly have both expressed interest in casting Emma Stone in Dumb and Dumber To.
Bobby Farrelly revealed to Digital Spy last year that the sequel will be set 20 years after the first film, and will feature either Lloyd or Harry's offspring.

Jim Carrey has revealed that he wants Emma Stone to appear in Dumb and Dumber To.
The Ace Ventura star said that he thinks Stone would be a great addition to the cast of the comedy sequel, reports E! Online.
Dumb and Dumber co-director Peter Farrelly, who will helm the follow-up with his brother Bobby, is also said to be keen to land Stone, saying that she would "knock it out of the park" in the role of a "young, dumb girl".
Carrey said of her potential casting: "That would be great. That would be awesome."
The Farrelly brothers are also apparently looking to add Magic Mike's Channing Tatum to the comedy's line-up.
Dumb and Dumber To is the sequel to the 1994 comedy starring Carrey and Jeff Daniels (Looper). Bobby Farrelly confirmed to Digital Spy last year that Carrey and Daniels were both on board for the picture.

Berg made the announcement today. Of course, it isn’t yet known how many of Kanter’s and Spencer’s clients will join Resolution from CAA. “But they’ve had long-term relationships with many of them,” Berg tells me. “We’re betting a lot of them.” CAA, on the other hand, is confident it’ll keep a goodly portion. Nevertheless, Berg is demonstrating that Resolution can shake loose established major agents with prestigious client bases who want quicker advancement. “Adam and Martin will play a key role in the development of our new agency,” Berg said in a statement. In the late 1990s and early 2000s the Farrelly brothers could be counted on for solid, laugh-out-loud and gross-out comedy. Hits Dumb & Dumber (1994), There’S Something About Mary (1998) and Me, Myself & Irene (2000) mixed heart, profanity and disgust in equal and enjoyable measure. The comedy midas touch may have deserted them in recent years – documentary The Lost Son Of Havana (2009) was a welcome break – but that didn’t stop them taking on comedy heroes The Three Stooges (2012) available now on DVD and Blu-ray.
Larry (Hayes), Moe (Diamantopoulos) and Curly (Sasso) arrive as toddlers at the Sisters Of Mercy Orphanage. Welcomed with open arms by Mother Superior (Lynch – Glee) the trio’s antics soon cause havoc in the congregation, »

The four years it took to make Movie 43, the raunchy, star-studded ensemble comedy feature 15 shorts, might seem like a long time, but it’s nothing compared to the 15 years it took producer Charles Wessler to get his idea turned into a reality. Wessler says he first came up with the idea for an outrageous comedy made up of several short films a decade and a half ago. He got three pairs of directors -- Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park, The Book of Mormon), Peter and Bob Farrelly (The Three Stooges, There's Something About Mary) and David

Peter Farrelly has revealed that the script for Dumb and Dumber To has been completed. The filmmaker explained that the sequel to 1994's Dumb and Dumber has yet to be officially greenlit by a studio, but that the script is "really fun". Peter Farrelly is currently developing the project with his brother Bobby Farrelly. "It's not a firm greenlight yet because there are still negotiations happening, but that's what we'd like to do next," Peter told Entertainment Weekly. "We have a script that's really, really fun. "If I told the plot to you, you'd say, 'That's a piece of s**t'. But if I had told you the first one, 'Well, it's about two guys and they find a briefcase and they bring it to Aspen to meet a chick', you'd (more) »

Dumb & Dumber is one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies, and one of the funniest movies I grew up with. I would laugh so ridiculously hard while watching this film. It was just so insanely stupid I couldn't help but enjoy the hell out of it. The film helped launch the career of directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly, unfortunately they haven't made anything as funny since.
It's previously been reported that Carrey and Jeff Daniels would be back to reprise their roles as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne in the sequel, and that it would be called Dumb & Dumber To. In a recent interview with Comingsoon Peter Farrelly talks about how the sequel ended up coming together, and where it currently stands in the production process.

Roughly 17 years ago, Peter and Bobby Farrelly came onto the scene with the raunchy comedy Dumb & Dumber , pairing Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne. Apparently everyone in Hollywood had been offered a role in the movie, but many of them turned it down, not realizing what a huge popular hit it would become. 17 years later, the four of them are finally reuniting to try to make a real sequel to the movie called Dumb and Dumber To . It's an odd decision being that the Farrellys generally haven't done sequels and Carrey himself has shied away from them in the past few years. In fact, he had been in and out of this project a number of times in the last year alone. Peter Farrelly explained how this finally came together when ComingSoon.net spoke to »
