The recipient of numerous accolades including two Golden Globes and a Grammy, Sigourney Weaver is undoubtedly one of the best actresses in Hollywood. She is well-known for her diverse filmography which comprises films like Alien and Working Girl; while the former is a sci-fi horror, the latter is a romantic comedy-drama.

Weaver rose to fame with her performance as Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s 1979 smash hit Alien. She reprised her role in the three sequels after the first movie’s success. It is hard to picture any other actress as Ellen in her place. It might be surprising for some that a different award-winning actress was considered for the role once.

Porno for Pyros recently wrapped up their “Horns, Thorns En Halos” farewell tour, and now they’ve released their final song ever, a tune called “Fingernail.”
“Fingernail” is one of three new songs Porno for Pyros recorded last year, and follows the release of the tracks “Agua” and “Little Me.” Each of the tunes were written in the ’90s but never properly recorded at that time.
Like the other two tracks, “Fingernail” features Porno for Pyros’ original lineup of singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Peter Distefano, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Martyn LeNoble. The tune also includes piano and string arrangements by Robert Adam Stevenson, who co-produced all three songs.
“The moment the melody touched the words I knew it would be a special song,’ said Farrell of “Fingernail,” adding. “But I was too immature to understand the essence fully.”
He continued, “There is no pain in the cutting of our hair,...

Porno for Pyros have unveiled the new song “Little Me” ahead of their upcoming farewell tour. The tune follows their comeback single “Agua,” which was released in November.
The alt-rock band reunited in 2022 to play their first shows in a quarter century. Their first full-fledged outing in 27 years — dubbed the “Horns, Thorns en Halos Farewell Tour” — kicks off February 13th in Santa Ana, California, and runs through a March 10th show in Montclair, New Jersey. Tickets are available here.
Last year, the band’s original lineup of singer Perry Farrell, drummer Stephen Perkins, guitarist Peter Distefano, and bassist Martyn LeNoble recorded a handful of songs for an as-yet-untitled forthcoming EP. LeNoble will not be part of the upcoming tour. Instead, Mike Watt, who played with Porno for Pyros from 1995 to 1998, will handle bass duties.

Coachella, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Summerfest, Pitchfork Music, etc. They all owe an enormous debt to Lollapalooza, the groundbreaking music festival that helped change the touring and music industry just as alternative music peaked in the early 90s. Yes, Lollapalooza itself was inspired by enormous, already-existing U.K. music festivals like Glastonbury, Reading, and Leeds. Still, in 1991, a big rock festival in the United States was largely unheard of—at least since Woodstock—let alone a touring version of a large-scale music fest.

Porno for Pyros have shared a special new holiday tune, “Pete’s Dad,” about (as the title suggests) guitarist Peter Distefano’s father, who just beat cancer.
While the song’s pitter-patter drums and uncanny acoustic guitars occasionally veer into strange sonic spaces, “Pete’s Dad” is obviously big-hearted, tender, and even a little funny. The first verse finds frontman Perry Farrell, who is Jewish, singing about being welcomed into the Distefano’s family for Christmas, even crooning at one point, “Jews and Italians, they’re very much alike/I like Italian food.

As Miami Art Week and lead fair Art Basel Miami Beach wraps up its 21st year, by night there were fashion events, popups, concerts, dining debuts, cocktail soirees and philanthropy moments to match and exceed every by-day art buy. During the week-long festivities — in which the Magic City is taken over by celebrities, musicians, artists and collectors — star chefs, performers, credit card companies and fashion, liquor and watch brands were all heavily in the mix alongside dealers and collectors. For some, it was quite possible to spend an entire week traversing from the beach to Brickell and from Downtown to the Design District attending art-adjacent parties and never even seeing any of the fairs.
Here are the highlights of what happened around town when everyone was not looking at art.

The Sundance Film Festival has announced its 2024 lineup, featuring 91 total projects across feature film and episodic program categories. Among the world premieres during the festival — which returns to Park City and Salt Lake City from January 18th through 28th — are documentaries about Brian Eno, Devo, and the history of Lollapalooza.
Directed by Gary Hustwit, the simply titled Eno will premiere as part of the New Frontier section. The first authorized documentary about the pioneering ambient musician features hundreds of hours of never-before-seen footage, unreleased music from Eno’s archive, and visual art.
Meanwhile, Devo was directed by Chris Smith and utilizes “a mixture of archival footage, interviews from other characters in their orbit, and a range of storytelling techniques” to tell the band’s story starting from their origins in response to the Kent State massacre through their rise to fame with the 1980 hit “Whip It.”

After playing a few reunion shows last year, Porno for Pyros recently announced a 2024 North American farewell tour.
And while a press release announcing the tour revealed that original members Perry Farrell (vocals), Peter Distefano (guitar), and Stephen Perkins (drums) would be taking part, a bassist was unconfirmed.
That led us to wonder: Would it be original bassist Martyn LeNoble or latter-era bassist Mike Watt? Or someone else altogether?
So, when Heavy Consequence caught up with Farrell recently to discuss the band’s upcoming EP and farewell tour (tickets available here), the singer gave us the scoop on who will be playing bass on the 2024 outing, albeit a bit cryptically at first.
“Martyn LeNoble is a wonderful guy – he loves the outdoors, he loves to track animals out in the wild,” began Farrell. “He really is a naturalist. By the time we got the tour together, Martyn was heading out to the forests.

As promised, Porno for Pyros have unleashed their first new song in 26 years. The track, titled “Agua,” serves as the first single off an upcoming EP, set for release in early 2024.
While “Agua” is new for fans, the song was originally written during sessions for the band’s 1996 album, Good God’s Urge, but was never properly recorded at the time. The band’s reunited classic lineup — Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins, Peter Distefano, and Martyn LeNoble — hit the studio recently to record the song, along with other new tunes slated for the EP.
Farrell said of the track, “The people who live here on the West Coast have a beautiful love and passion for the Pacific Ocean. The ocean doesn’t look right, doesn’t feel right, doesn’t surf right. You go and swim in it, and you get the creeps. The sunsets are different. We are really, really screwing it up.

A day after Porno for Pyros rescheduled their first tour in 25 years, the reunited Perry Farrell-led band has released “Agua,” their first new song in 26 years.
The track, which the band worked on while rehearsing for their postponed reunion tour (now a farewell tour), was inspired by encounters the group had with dolphins while surfing in the Nineties, calling “Agua” “an ode to the sea and all its beautiful creatures.”
As such, Porno for Pyros have teamed with the Surfrider Foundation, which advocates for protecting the oceans, for the “Agua” release.

Labor Day weekend marks the end of the summer, but it’s also a holiday weekend where many moviegoers try to catch up on what they missed. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
This would be a good catch-up weekend if not for the fact that last weekend was National Cinema Day with $4 movie tickets on Sunday, and presumably, many moviegoers used that fact to catch up on summer movies. This weekend is generally counted as four days since Monday is a national holiday, and any schools that have already reopened will be closed again.
With that in mind, this Labor Day sees the first nationwide theatrical release for a Denzel Washington movie since “The Equalizer 2” in the summer of 2018. Although he did star in the serial killer thriller “The Little Things” opposite fellow Oscar winner Jared Leto in 2021, it got a nominal theatrical release in the height of the pandemic,...

Earlier this week, Jane’s Addiction quietly debuted their first new song in 10 years, “True Love,” at the end of a show in Bakersfield, California, on Sunday, March 5.
The song is a psych-tinged ballad that builds to an understated peak, with frontman Perry Farrell’s voice reverberating against twinkling guitars, splashy cymbals, and a pensive baseline. Fan-shot video of the performance arrived online a few days after the concert, and in the clip, Farrell introduced “True Love” by saying, “We want to give you something very special… We’re gonna...

Jane’s Addiction unveiled their first new song in a decade on Sunday (March 5th) during a concert in Bakersfield, California. The tune, titled “True Love,” was performed by the band’s current touring lineup of Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins, Eric Avery, and Josh Klinghoffer (who is filling in for Dave Navarro).
“True Love” is the first new Jane’s tune since 2013’s “Another Soulmate,” a one-off single that followed the band’s 2011 album The Great Escape Artist.
The slow ballad is driven by Avery’s melodic bass line, enhanced by Klinghoffer’s occasional guitar theatrics, as Farrell sings with a subdued restraint throughout the song.
Jane’s have been sharing video clips of Farrell, Avery, and Perkins in the studio on Instagram, and it could be assumed that “True Love” was written during those sessions. Last year, Farrell told Heavy Consequence during a video interview that he’d love...

The Pitch: For my 56th and final entry in /Film's Daily Stream series, I thought, "Screw it. I'm gonna write about 'The Godfather.'"
When's the last time you did a full 9-hour marathon with all three movies? If asked to articulate why the first two are such masterworks, what would you say?

Few cinematic cows are more sacred than Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather" trilogy. Largely considered one of the greatest films ever put to screen, the mob drama is a staple of American film and a mainstay in Italian-American culture. Becoming obsessed with "The Godfather" is a generational rite of passage, and despite the film's constant analysis ranging from the presence of oranges to the ridiculously true circumstances surrounding the film's production process, "The Godfather" continues to pop up as a reference point in other forms of entertainment.
As someone with a last name so Italian-sounding I'm a syllable shy of sharing the name of one of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," it wasn't until my mid-20s that I was able to watch "The Godfather" in an objective way. On the third episode of “The White Lotus” Season 2, a group of American tourists visits a location from “The Godfather,” which leads to a multi-generational debate about the patriarchy. But Francis Ford Coppola’s Oscar-winning classic isn’t the only film referenced in Sunday’s installment.

When Jane’s Addiction kick off their North American arena tour with Smashing Pumpkins on Oct. 2, they’ll be joined by original bassist Eric Avery for the first time in more than a decade. But this won’t be a complete reunion of the classic Jane’s lineup: Guitarist Dave Navarro, who is suffering from long Covid and unable to tour, will be recuperating at home. Francis Ford Coppola continues to fill out the ensemble for his epic Megalopolis, with Talia Shire (The Godfather), Shia Labeouf (Honey Boy), Jason Schwartzman (The French Dispatch), Grace Vanderwaal (Stargirl), Kathryn Hunter (The Tragedy of Macbeth) and James Remar (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) its newest cast additions.
The actors are set to star alongside the previously announced Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne and Aubrey Plaza. Details about the newest additions’ roles weren’t disclosed.
