Alan Bennett’s Single Spies to tour the UK in 2016

23 October 2015 6:11 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

A new production of Alan Bennett’s hit comedy will embark on a UK tour in February 2016.  Following the success of The King’s Speech, Chichester Festival Theatre and Birmingham Repertory Theatre collaborate once again on this award-winning comedy masterpiece, Single Spies.

Olivier Award-nominated Rachel Kavanaugh will direct Nicholas Farrell (as Guy Burgess), Belinda Lang (Coral Browne and Her Majesty the Queen) and David Robb (Anthony Blunt) in an extensive UK tour opening in February 2016.  Further casting to follow.

Bennett’s award-winning espionage double bill is a pointedly satirical snapshot of two members of the infamous ‘Cambridge Five’, Guy Burgess and Anthony Blunt, both recruited as spies by the Soviet Union during World War II.

In 1950s Moscow, Coral Browne receives an invitation to lunch with shunned Soviet spy, Guy Burgess, with the sole instruction to ‘bring a tape measure’.  An Englishman Abroad is a wry and touching play which »

My Mad Fat Diary's Jodie Comer will star in BBC Three's new original drama

28 July 2015 5:27 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

My Mad Fat Diary actress Jodie Comer has signed up to star in a brand new BBC Three series.

Thirteen sees Comer playing 26-year-old Ivy Moxam, who escapes from the cellar that's been her prison for the last 13 years and returns home to her family.

The psychological drama is written by Marnie Dickens and directed by Vanessa Caswill and China Moo-Young.

"I am beyond excited to be working with the BBC as part of the cast of Thirteen," Comer said. "Marnie Dickens's writing is truly remarkable, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to bring Ivy to life.

"Imagine the most unimaginable happening. Life turning completely on its head, with the actions of one person affecting so many lives.

"We as humans, even though we doubt ourselves, have this amazing strength within us to cope in the most terrifying situations, and Marnie explores that so beautifully.

Kit Harington Talks Testament Of Youth and Game Of Thrones

5 June 2015 11:55 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Now playing in L.A. and NYC is director James Kent’s Testament of Youth. The film is based on Vera Brittain’s World War I memoir of the same name and stars Alicia Vikander as Vera Brittain and Game of Thrones star Kit Harington as her fiancé, Roland Leighton. As the film progresses, you see how the onset of war shatters the characters’ youthful dreams and demolishes an entire generation. It’s a powerful look at the First World War and I recommend checking it out when you can. Testament of Youth also stars Taron EgertonEmily Watson, Hayley AtwellColin Morgan, Joanna ScanlanAlexandra RoachJonathan BaileyAnna ChancellorNicholas Le PrevostNicholas FarrellDominic West and Miranda Richardson. For more on the film, watch the trailer. The other day, I landed an exclusive video interview with Kit Harington. He talked about making Testament of Youth, how the project evolved, »

Doctor Who's take on UK prime ministers

6 May 2015 12:13 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Winston Churchill, Harriet Jones, Harold Saxon... As we all head to the voting booths, how have UK prime ministers fared in Doctor Who?

Incarnations of the Doctor are a bit like British prime ministers. They usually last four to five years in real time and, despite having different faces, a cynic could say that they're all pretty much the same beneath the surface. But that's the stuff of Media Studies dissertations, in fact, Doctor Who has a far dimmer view of the UK executive in the show itself.

Over the course of fifty-odd years, the office of prime minister has been both the target and agent of satire and parody in a show that deals with an onslaught of alien activity on British soil in the past, present and future.

As we're all going to the polls today to pick who we want in Downing Street, here's our look back »

Testament Of Youth Trailer Starring Game Of Thrones’ Kit Harrington

23 April 2015 2:30 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Now that the film has already seen a release in the UK, it's time for Us audiences to get familiar with director James Kent’s new film Testament of Youth. The film is based on Vera Brittain’s First World War memoir of the same name and stars Alicia Vikander as Vera Brittain. Vikander is joined by Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington who plays her fiancé, Roland Leighton. I'm not familiar with the source material but this seems like a handsomely photographed period piece that's, as far as I can tell, competently executed on just about every level besides that as well. Check out the Us version of Testament of Youth Trailer below. The film also stars Taron EgertonEmily WatsonHayley AtwellColin MorganJoanna ScanlanAlexandra RoachJonathan BaileyAnna ChancellorNicholas Le PrevostNicholas FarrellDominic West and Miranda Richardson.
