Should Security Concern 'Beyond' At Comic-Con?

It wasn't easy to get in.A security checkpoint just to get on the lot, and then another checkpoint inside to check for weapons. After a panel discussion, people were brought into a stage room where smartphones were collected and stored in foam cases with magnetized pin locks and security guards on ladders watching the crowd with night-vision binoculars. No that, wasn't a gathering of all the world leaders into one place. It was just a chance to fans to screen a few minutes of unfinished footage from "Star Trek: Beyond" at the Paramount Pictures lot in May.The fear of piracy was so great, one would think the studio was offering details of where Jimmy Hoffa was buried, or who D.B. Cooper really was. However, when Paramount debuts "Beyond" at San Diego Comic-Con next week, a few days ahead of its ...

What can you say to such success? Mike Nichols and Buck Henry's sex satire defined 'the generation gap' for the sixties. Dustin Hoffman sprang forward from obscurity and Katharine Ross was the object of California desire. Anne Bancroft's Mrs. Robinson freed the image of the 'complicated woman' from the clutches of the Production Code Stone Age. The broad comedy scores with every joke, and there's a truth beneath all the odd things that ought not to work. Actor Wayne Rogers passed away on New Years Day at age 82 from complications with pneumonia. Rogers had played bit part in movies and TV series before landing his signature role as Trapper John, Alan Alda's co-star on the TV series M*A*S*H, which debuted on CBS in 1972 and ran  for eleven seasons. Rogers and Alda played the roles of insubordinate, wise-cracking medics in the Korean War. The characters were originally played by Elliott Gould and Donald Sutherland in director Robert Altman's Oscar-nominated counter culture feature film from 1970 that inspired the TV series. Rogers left the show after three seasons and was replaced by actor Mike Farrell, whose character of B.J. Hunnicut proved to be equally popular throughout the remainder of the series' run. Wayne Rogers, Trapper John on ‘M.A.S.H.,’ Dies at 82

Wayne Rogers, Trapper John on ‘M.A.S.H.,’ Dies at 82
Wayne Rogers, best known for playing Captain “Trapper” John McIntyre on TV comedy series “M.A.S.H.,” died Thursday in Los Angeles from complications of pneumonia. He was 82.

He appeared on “M.A.S.H.” for only the first three of 11 seasons, but the army surgeon was one of the most popular characters on the show, known for his repartee with Alan Alda’s Hawkeye Pierce. He was reportedly frustrated by the show’s focus on Alda when he quit after three seasons, with Mike Farrell replacing him as B.J. Hunnicut.

Despite Rogers’ departure from the show, he remained friendly with Alda, who saluted his Rogers in a Twitter message: “He was smart, funny, curious and dedicated,” Alda wrote. “We made a pact to give Mash all we had and it bonded us.”

Ed Asner Explains Hollywood Silence on Obama, Syria: They 'Don't Want to Feel Anti-Black'
In 2003, ahead of a U.S. attack on Iraq, a robust anti-war movement in Hollywood included a TV commercial starring Martin Sheen and Sean Penn visiting Baghdad. Bush pleading for peace were signed by Matt Damon, Tim Robbins, Barbra Streisand and Alec Baldwin; former M*A*S*H star Mike Farrell fronted multiple press conferences where celebrities denounced war. In interviews, Janeane Garofalo stopped identifying herself as an actor -- she preferred to be called a member of the U.S. anti-war movement. The good news for President
