In 1995 she had a public argument with Sonia Braga because of movie "Tieta do Agreste". Betty Faria starred the title role in the TV-series "Tieta", in 1990, and would like to play it again in cinema, but the rights for screenplay of the book of Jorge Amado had been bought by Sonia Braga, who starred Tieta in the big screen.

Her maternal grandmother was Maria Luíza.
