Preview: Get lost in ‘Wayward Pines’

24 March 2015 3:23 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Fox’s Wayward Pines stars Matt Dillon as rugged secret service agent Ethan Burke. Investigating the disappearance of two fellow agents, Burke finds himself marooned in a middle-of-nowhere town after a car wreck kills his partner and leaves him dashingly banged up. Early comparisons to Lost and Twin Peaks don’t look far off the mark, with promotional material mostly focused on cultivating the mystery of the titular backwoods Idaho town and its population of grinning suburban drones.

M. Night Shyamalan has been given the helm, which seems kind of like handing the guy who sank the Titanic the keys to the Lusitania and saying “go nuts.” But hey, Fox probably knows what it’s doing. Stuck in grim Idaho purgatory alongside Dillon’s Burke are Carla Gugino as his old flame and Piney convert Kate Hewson and Terrence Howard as a thick slice of ham who really loves rum raisin ice cream. »

Wayward Pines’ Latest Trailer Hints At A Bloody Mystery

19 March 2015 8:32 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Fox’s Twin Peaks-esque Wayward Pines is two months away from hitting our screens, and to muster up further intrigue into its bizarre premise, the network has dropped a new trailer.

In it, Terrence Howard wrangles a little extra footage as a creepy ice cream-lovin’ law enforcer (channeling Peaks‘ Dale Cooper with his sweet tooth one-liners). However, the main man of this show is Matt Dillon, a Secret Service Agent tasked with visiting the Northwestern ‘burg to unravel the mystery of two missing agents.

Along with Dillon, there’s a veritable ensemble all dipping into the crazy pool for their performances. Carla Gugino, Shannyn Sossamon, Reed Diamond, Tim Griffin, Juliette Lewis, Charlie Tahan, Melissa Leo, and Siobhan Fallon Hogan co-star as the town’s inhabitants. Glimpses at a bloody, shrieking Gugino and Leo dishing out words of wisdom up the sheer eeriness of the preview. Check it out above, »

First Trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's 'Wayward Pines' Television Series

M. Night Shyamalan has had something like a 12 year rough patch. Ever since Signs in 2002 it's been pretty much downhill in the eyes of most people. Personally I enjoy Lady in the Water as well as Devil, which he produced, but I also won't argue with anyone that has disliked his work. However, maybe 2015 will turn things around. On September 11 he has the low budget thriller The Visit coming to theaters, but before that he has his new television series, "Wayward Pines", starring Matt Dillon and a host of others coming to Fox. amz asin="1477808701" size="small"The show is based on Blake Crouch's novel and follows Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Dillon) who, while investigating the disappearance of two fellow agents, finds himself trapped in the titular town, a Stepford village of the damned in which no one is allowed to leave. The citizens live in abject terror »

Watch: Enjoy Your Life In 'Wayward Pines' With The New Trailer For M. Night Shyamalan's Event Series

19 March 2015 6:22 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

So it would seem that Terrence Howard is having a moment... from his epic bout of emotional overkill on the Oscars, to a starring role on the hotly buzzed "Empire," and now, going full weirdo in M. Night Shyamalan's "Wayward Pines." A new trailer has arrived providing a further peek at the eerie new event series. Also featuring Matt Dillon, Carla Gugino, Shannyn Sossamon, Reed Diamond, Tim Griffin, Juliette Lewis, Charlie Tahan, Melissa Leo, and Siobhan Fallon Hogan, the show follows an FBI agent who heads to a titular Pacific Northwestern town to investigate the disappearance of two fellow agents. He winds up stepping into a world that seems part "The Stepford Wives," part "Twin Peaks," and part "The Wicker Man." So yeah, the fingerprints of the influences are all over this, but hell, I'm intrigued. And fyi, Shyamalan directed the pilot and produced the series.   "Wayward Pines" arrives on May 14th. »
