- Péter Eötvös was born on January 2, 1944 in Székelyudvarhely, Hungary [now Odorheiu Secuiesc, Romania]. He was a composer and writer, known for Age of Illusions (1965), Egy örült éjszaka (1970) and Tüske a köröm alatt (1988). He was married to Piroska Molnár, Mária Mezei and Pi-Hsien Chen. He died on March 24, 2024 in Budapest, Hungary.

- He started taking music lessons - violin, piano, flute and percussion - at the age of 5. At 14, he was accepted to study composition with Zoltan Kodaly at the music academy in Budapest. He was fascinated with what he heard, through recordings, of Western contemporary works. While still a teenager, he composed music for theater and film.
- He is an avant-garde composer who worked closely with Karlheinz Stockhausen and Pierre Boulez, as well as being a conductor.
- In 1958, he was asked to accompany film projections with improvisations on piano and hammond organ.
