Review: Mother’S Day

11 May 2012 9:50 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

Mother’S Day: First Look -Robg.

Let’s just get this out of the way right off the bat. Mother’S Day is a very unpleasant movie. I tend not to enjoy this particular sub-genre of horror movies that consist of films like Last House On The Left or Funny Games. I completely respect and understand their importance, but these are not the types of movies I break out on a Friday night when I have friends over for some beers and fun.

That said, Mother’S Day is by far the best of this sub-genre of horror movies. It’s by far the best film Darren Lynn Bousman has directed. And it’s also the best ensemble cast you’re probably ever going to see in a genre film of this sort. And while that praise makes it sound like the film is flawless, it’s definitely not perfect. »

Icons Exclusive Interview: Director Darren Lynn Bousman

11 May 2012 9:46 PM, PDT | iconsoffright.com | See recent Icons of Fright news »

*Editor’s note: This interview originally appeared on Icons Of Fright’s sister site Massive Hysteria back in September of 2010. With this week’s DVD/Blu-Ray releases of both Mother’S Day and 11-11-11, we thought we’d present it again to the Icons audience completely unedited and uncut. Check it!

Considering director Darren Lynn Bousman’s impressive body of work, which spans over 3 Saw sequels, the crazy rock musical Repo! The Genetic Opera, an episode of NBC’s short lived Fear Itself TV series and the upcoming remake of Mother’S Day, it’s a surprise that we never got him in the hot seat for an extensive Icons Of Fright interview. So, with the launch of Massive Hysteria, we decided that he would make for the ideal interviewee to kick things off in style!

Bousman invited Mh over to his place for our career spanning lengthy chat, »

Mother’s Day Review

Mother's Day Directed by: Darren Lynn Bousman Written by: Scott Milam Starring: Rebecca De Mornay, Jaime King, Frank Grillo, Deborah Ann Woll, Briana Evigan, Shawn Ashmore In honor of Mother’s Day, here’s my review of the aptly titled horror flick Mother’s Day. Looking for the perfect film to watch with mom this weekend?  I assure you, this is not it. Well, unless your mom is like me, and seeks out any depraved movie she can get her hands on. In that case, Mother’s Day is perfect. It made its debut at Fantastic Fest 2010 in Austin, Texas, and there was plenty of buzz around it. With Darren Lynn Bousman (the Saw franchise, Repo! The Genetic Opera) at the helm, I was anxious to see this project. Unfortunately, I was unable to get into the midnight screening. The fact that I got to casually chat with Bousman before »

7 May 2012 1:35 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Darren Lynn Bousman’s remake of Mother’s Day wrapped up filming in 2010. While the movie was available in the UK last year, fans have been anxiously awaiting this week’s Us Blu-ray/DVD release.

I’ve caught up with Darren Lynn Bousman a couple of times for The Devil’s Carnival, and had a chance to ask him some questions about Mother’s Day and The Barrens:

With as busy as you’ve been with The Devil’s Carnival, I’m surprised you have time to work on and promote other projects.

Darren: It’s insane. I’m in a van right now driving across the country to Ohio. We’re in Canada and about to cross the border.

When we talked last time, you said that Mother’s Day was one of your favorite films that you’ve directed. What in particular made this such an enjoyable »

Interview and Event Report: The Devil’s Carnival

2 May 2012 4:45 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Darren Lynn Bousman and Terrance Zdunich kicked off The Devil’s Carnival road tour on April 5th in Los Angeles. Since then, they have been hitting various cities across the Us and I had a chance to check out the Pittsburgh stop. Mixing elements of a live show with a 1 hour short musical film, The Devil’s Carnival offers an entertaining and unique experience, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the event improves over time.

The Pittsburgh stop marks the halfway point for the tour, doesn’t it?

Terrance: Yeah, today is the halfway point. It is the first day that we’ve really had an afternoon off.

Last time we spoke, you talked about difficulties of setting up the tour. Now that you’re at the halfway point, have things gotten any easier?

Darren: Today was the very first day in 22 days that we’ve had a free moment. »

There are a number of popular amped up fairy tale projects out there right now. One need look no further than NBC's "Grimm" or ABC's "Once Upon a Time." However, Zenescope Entertainment's comic series Grimm Fairy Tales is about to take things to a whole new level.

"Metalocalypse" director Jon Schnepp is teaming with Titmouse Animation Studio, Benjamin Jackendoff and Zenescope to create an animated project based on the long running Grimm Fairy Tales comic book series. "Ben and I had done a couple of horror shorts over the last two years," Schnepp said. "He started working for a company called Zenescope and was like, 'Yo, dude, you've gotta check out this company. I had been doing 'Metalocalypse' for eight years and wanted to do something on my own that's like a Heavy Metal movie, so I started writing this horror anthology movie. Ben was like, 'You »

Following on from the trailer that arrived online last week a new still has come to light from Eduardo Rodriguez's home invasion thriller 'Stash House'. The new pic features the shifty looking pair of Dolph Lundgren and John Huertas. The thuggish duo wreak havoc on their new neighbours Briana Evigan ('Sorority Row', 'Mother's Day') and Sean Faris ('Never Back Down') as they try to get into the house for its secret stashes. Rodriguez directs from a script by Gary Spinelli. The sexy Evigan really doesn't have much luck when it comes to home invasions. What with tiger invasion in 'Burning Bright' and psychotic Milf invasion in 'Mother's Day' you'd have thought she might have learnt her lesson by now. Anyhoo check out the new still below. »

For the diehard fans of Repo! The Genetic Opera, when whispers began over a year ago that Darren Lynn Bousman (director of Mother’s Day, 11-11-11 and several of the Saw films) and Terrance Zdunich (Repo!, The Molting comic book) were teaming up once more for another musical endeavor, the project couldn’t debut fast enough. Promotional images promised a whimsical goth-tinged carnival spearheaded by Lucifer himself, and early glimpses of soundtrack bites included performances from iconic genre staples like Emilie Autumn, Ogre (Skinny Puppy) and Ivan Moody (Five Finger Death Punch). The project was not a studio endeavor; rather, it was filmed in about seven days, produced almost exclusively by Zdunich and Bousman themselves, with help »
