6 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced its 2017 member class and it’s a big addition. 774 candidates have been invited from 57 countries, and they include some names with little film experience as the Academy continues on its mission to diversify its overall membership. This year’s class arguably includes more comedy actors, writers and directors than ever before.

Some of the notable invitations to the actors branch include Gal Gadot, Donald Glover, Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt, Amy Poehler, Leslie Jones, John Cho, Monica Bellucci (who appears to have been invited in previous years), Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm, Dwayne Johnson, Anna Farris, and Sarah Paulson.

Marvel's Kevin Feige Teases Avengers: Infinity War Secrets

7 hours ago | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

We're less than one year until Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War slams into theaters everywhere -- seriously, are there any theaters on the planet that won't be showing this movie? Marvel is still closely guarding the plot details, but we certainly know that it will involve Thanos (Josh Brolin), the Infinity Gems, and Spider-Man... look, I know you know this, but not everyone's a comic nerd like us, Ok? Rumor has it that a trailer will debut with Thor: Ragnarok, but that's a long ways off.

We do know that this is a massive film with upwards of 60 Marvel characters appearing; including at least one scene containing 32 characters alone. I know this is true because there's a link to that very article right below -- it's a good article, you should read it!

Marvel to remain tight-lipped on Phase Four of the McU until Avengers: Infinity War concludes

26 June 2017 5:25 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With the hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming set to release in a little over a week, Marvel film chief Kevin Feige has been out doing the press rounds, and found himself explaining that details on Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be relatively scarce until the conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War.

Speaking to io9, Feige stated “I hope [the news comes] after that. I think there will be certain elements that start to come about, not the least of which is the already announced release date of the next Spider-Man film. But other than that we’re going to keep it very close to the vest because this is really about focusing on the unprecedented conclusion to a 22-movie overarching narrative.”

It makes sense to keep everything as tight-lipped as possible, as anything from film titles to renegotiated contracts can be seen as a spoiler in some way. Even so, the Internet »

Tom Holland would like to see a Spider-Man and Ant-Man team-up

26 June 2017 4:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Spider-Man’s current partner and mentor will be Tony Stark/Iron Man as seen in this July’s hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming, but with reports suggesting that the 2019 sequel will see Spidey teaming up with another hero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Holland has shared his thoughts as to which character he’d like to see joining the web-slinger.

Speaking to ScreenRant at a press junket for Homecoming, Holland stated “Ant-Man would be my favorite. I want to have like a bug bros session. I think it’d be really cool.”

Clearly, Ant-Man would make sense considering that both superheroes are insect related and are known for wise-cracking remarks, but let us below in the comments who you’d like to see Spider-Man paired with for his next outing…

Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Laura Harrier wants to see Liz Allan become Firestar

26 June 2017 3:25 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the first Spider-Man film that feels like an ensemble movie. In every teaser and trailer seen so far, we get a sense that Peter Parker’s friends (and mentors) are a crucial part of his story in the film. These characters aren’t mere throwaways either: some of them go through some big evolutions in the comics.

Liz Allan for example, Parker’s main high-school crush, eventually becomes the superheroine Firestar. And Laura Harrier, the actress playing Liz, wants in according to Screenrant:

“I hope Liz get’s powers, because that’s what happens in the comics,” said Harrier. “She becomes like Firestar, and she can like light things on fire.”

With more Spider-Man movies on the way, and Marvel’s penchant for universe building, it wouldn’t be crazy to think that we may see her don a hero’s uniform in the future.

Watch Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie roast Spider-Man actor Tom Holland during an interview

26 June 2017 2:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Tom Holland has proven to be quite energetic during his various interviews leading up to the release of the Marvels first Spidey film Spider-Man: Homecoming. Holland is a young actor, and his enthusiasm and aspirations are totally admirable, but some of his older co-workers seem a little tired of Holland’s on-set behavior… and his excessive use of hair gel, apparently. Revealed in a YouTube compilation created by user Shana Fierce, the actors give their opinion on “the little asshole” during an older interview…

While obviously a joke, it’s not hard to imagine the veteran Marvel actors having trouble dealing with someone as young as Tom Holland. But isn’t that absolutely perfect for the film? It’s why Holland’s Parker was so enjoyable to watch in Captain America: Civil War. It isn’t a stretch for Tom Holland to fit this role, and that is a beautiful »

Tom Holland wants Miles Morales in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

26 June 2017 1:35 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Although they were recently fired from directing the Han Solo Star Wars story spinoff, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are still creating an animated Spider-Man feature utilizing the Miles Morales interpretation of the web-slinger.

However, that isn’t stopping audiences from wanting to see a live-action interpretation of the character as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Peter Parker himself Tom Holland seems to agree with the fans.

Speaking at a press junket for Spider-Man: Homecoming (courtesy of ScreenRant), Holland was questioned about the possible inclusion of Miles, stating that:

“That would be something that I would be very up for doing, it’s something that I would really really hope to happen. I think Miles Morales is a great character, I think it would be fantastic to have an actor of color playing a superhero on screen and I just think it’s going to be something very »

Kevin Feige explains why Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is the best way to start Phase Four of the McU

26 June 2017 12:53 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Late last year it was revealed that the first film in the McU following both parts of Avengers: Infinity War will be a sequel to this July’s hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has now explained why Spider-Man is the perfect character to kick off Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking to io9, Feige explained: “So much happens in [the 3rd and 4th Avengers movies], as you can imagine, and so much is affected by it that we felt what better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the McU, in a grounded, realistic manner, than Peter Parker? So, coming out two months after Untitled Avengers, [that’s what] much of what the next Spider-Man film will be about. It was purposefully done like this. Like how the events of Captain America: Civil War impacted Peter as he was dropped off by Tony and expected to »

Marisa Tomei is “all for” a solo Aunt May film

26 June 2017 12:22 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back before Spider-Man was even announced as heading to the McU with a brand new actor portraying the web-slinger (Tom Holland taking over for Andrew Garfield), Sony was at a crossroads of what to do with the property considering that The Amazing Spider-Man movies were both critical and commercial flops. One of their reported proposed ideas was an Aunt May solo feature based upon a comic book exploring her days as a spy.

Naturally, that idea was shelved with the superhero’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War and the announcement of Spider-Man: Homecoming, but with the casting of Marisa Tomei as a ridiculously attractive interpretation of Aunt May (she’s already flirting with Tony Stark), Sony is in a position where they theoretically could market such a film if they were interested in making it.

Speaking to Screen Rant, Tomei was asked about those rumors and replied “What? You »

Gwyneth Paltrow Has A Cameo In Spider-Man: Homecoming

Something Marvel fans have been wondering about for a while now is where the heck has Pepper Potts disappeared to? Over the three Iron Man movies, Tony Stark and Pepper seemed to have grown into an unbreakable couple, but then Captain America: Civil War dropped the bombshell that the pair had separated. After that, we thought we’d seen the last of Gwyneth Paltrow in the McU. As it turns out, though, we thought wrong.

That’s because the actress has a cameo role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. GeekTyrant‘s got a hold of the full cast list for the movie and it reveals that Paltrow is reprising the role of Pepper, marking her first appearance in a Marvel film since 2013’s Iron Man 3.

Her part in Homecoming makes a lot of sense from what we know about it. The trailers have revealed that Stark will play a »

Avengers: Infinity War Will Kill Off Some Major Superheroes

25 June 2017 2:36 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

With Avengers: Infinity War still in production, it remains to be seen when the first footage will surface, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has teased that not all of your favorite Marvel heroes will live to see Avengers 4. While promoting Spider-Man: Homecoming, which hits theaters on July 7, Kevin Feige was asked if there will be any McU heroes that will be killed off in Avengers: Infinity War, which is slated for release on May 4, 2018. Here's what the producer and studio head had to say below.

"Yes. We have another two years of hard work to even finish these movies, and they [the actors] have a lot of hard work to do, so that's all we're thinking about, is completing those and delivering on the promise of those. Where it goes beyond that, we'll see."

Avengers: Infinity War will mark the “final chapter” for some Marvel heroes

25 June 2017 4:53 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Next year’s Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are set to serve as the culmination of everything we’ve seen from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, with Marvel suggesting we’ll be seeing a very different landscape in Phase Four as the focus shifts from some of the original Avengers towards the more recent additions to the McU.

Speaking to Joblo, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has confirmed that Infinity War will mark the “final chapter” for certain characters, although he refused to confirm or deny whether this would include Chris EvansCaptain America and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, instead deflecting the question by responding that: “We have another two years of hard work to even finish these movies, and they [the actors] have a lot of hard work to do, so thats all we’re thinking about, is completing those and delivering on the promise of those. »

Kevin Feige on Spider-Man, Sony’s spinoffs and the Marvel Cinematic Universe

25 June 2017 4:37 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With less than two weeks to go before Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is out on the promotional campaign for the Marvel and Sony-produced reboot, during which he’s been talking about the future of the wall-crawler within the McU and trying to clear up the status of Sony’s Spider-Spinoffs.

“Right now, Spidey is in the McU and it’s just Spidey. Civil War, Homecoming, we’ve already shot a lot of Tom Holland’s scenes in the upcoming Avengers films, and we’re just starting to solidify our plans for Homecoming 2 – we won’t call it that, whatever it is – which is exciting because it’ll be the first McU movie after untitled Avengers in 2019,” Feige tells Joblo. “It’ll be the way Civil War informed everything in Homecoming, those movies will launch him off into a very new cinematic universe at that point. »
