‘The Hangover’: All the Fun of Inebriation, No Next-Day Headache

5 June 2009 12:12 PM, PDT | From HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news

Chicago – Those who seek out “The Hangover” will do so wanting a good laugh. Those who see this film will occasionally be struck with the feeling that they shouldn’t be laughing. But laugh and laugh often they will as “The Hangover” will whirl you through all the fun of inebriation without the consequence of the nasty, next-day headache.

Rating: 4.0/5.0 “Old School” director Todd Phillips has met and surpassed the hysterics of his former film with this take-it-to-the-limit comedy. Breaking the “what happens in Vegas…” taboo, “The Hangover” allows a glimpse at the goings-on of a Las Vegas bachelor party.

From the strippers to the blackouts, the moviegoer is invited along on this three-day, two-night trip of penthouse suite-staying, lucky-streak chip-winning, unforgettable fun.

In honor of groom-to-be Doug (Justin Bartha of the “National Treasure” films), best-buddies Phil (Bradley Cooper of “He’s Just Not That Into You”) and Stu (Ed Helms

The Hangover - Review

5 June 2009 6:03 AM, PDT | From Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news

The Hangover falls victim to having it’s best laughs in the trailer, something most comedies walk right into. Todd Phillips’ new film also lets a few gags run on too long and it features subplots that are unnecessary. Yet with all of this, it’s hard not to laugh at it when it hits the right notes with jokes or be swept up in the command Bradley Cooper has as the lead. Unlike the recent What Happens in Vegas, The Hangover has the ingredients needed to make a good and often hilarious comedy and actually takes place in Vegas for longer than five minutes. Dare I say, The Hangover is the best Vegas comedy and certainly is the best comedy of the year.

The list of positives starts with the script by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore who did impressive work on Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. This is certainly

‘Star Trek’ Gets Pimped Out Courtesy Of ‘Next Day Air’ Star Mike Epps

11 May 2009 4:34 PM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

Mike Epps is no hater whatsoever. His film “Next Day Air” opened on Friday against the box office favorite “Star Trek.” Still, Epps didn’t see it as competition. The hilarious actor sees it as enough money for everyone to make in Hollywood. Epps, like a lot of us out there, is a huge fan and told us days ago that he was anticipating the latest take on the sci-fi blockbuster.

“I’m looking forward to seeing ‘Star Trek,’” Epps said sitting in one of the New York’s hottest eateries — Phillippe’s Express — in lower Manhattan. “I wanna see how tight they got the shirt on Mr. Spock this time. Mr. Spock got a tight Izod on! I’m looking forward to seeing that ‘Star Trek.’”

Epps said heaven forbid they ever did a movie with him sitting in Captain James T. Kirk’s sacred chair on the Enterprise.

9 May 2009 9:44 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" landed at the No. 1 spot at the North American box office Friday with $24 million in ticket sales. Adding the $7 million the film earned from Thursday's evening screenings, its domestic total already stands at $31 million.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Bruce Greenwood, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and Simon Pegg star in the sci-fi blockbuster, which opened Friday at 3,849 locations. "Trek" will easily take home the weekend box office crown.

At No. 2, last week's champion "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" collected another $8.5 million, bringing its total gross to $111.1 million after only one week in theaters. Directed by Gavin Hood, the film stars Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine, who seeks revenge against William Stryker and Victor Creed.

Meanwhile, Mark Waters' latest romantic comedy "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" earned $3.1 million in third place, lifting its cumulative gross to $22.9 million. Following at No. 4 was "Obsessed," which took home

New To Theatres This Weekend: Star Trek, Next Day Air, Rudo Y Cursi

8 May 2009 6:32 AM, PDT | From FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news

Wolverine goes head to head with J.J. Abrams's Star Trek this weekend... who will come out victorious? No matter what happens, I think it's safe to say that Star Trek is back in a big way. Does anyone have any predictions as to how well it will do? The only other major release this weekend is something I hadn't even heard of up until now... Next Day Air starring Donald Faison, Mike Epps, and Mos Def. In limited release we have Carlos Cuaron's soccer comedy Rudo Y Cursi, Kirby Dick's documentary Outrage, and the Salvador Dali biopic Little Ashes starring Robert Pattinson. What will you be checking out? Star Trek [1] Next Day Air [2] Rudo Y Cursi [3] (limited) Outrage [4] (limited) Little Ashes [5] (limited) Adoration [6] (limited) Powder Blue [7] (limited) Love N Dancing [8] (limited) Julia [9] (limited) [1] http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/ [2] http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1097013/ [3] http://www.

Next Day Air

8 May 2009 1:11 AM, PDT | From The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news

Next Day Air

Directed by: Benny Boom

Cast: Donald Faison, Mike Epps, Cisco Reyes, Mos Def

Time: 1 hr, 30 minutes

Rating: R

Plot: An unthinkably outlandish tale about a young postal worker whose life is turned upside down when one procedural mistake lands him in the middle of an underground war between would-be drug dealers, oddly-named thugs, and Mexican drug lords so intimidating it nearly trumps their very existence. A comical take on how being down on your luck doesn’t nearly measure up to having a very large price on your perpetually “altered” head.

Who’s It For?: TV fans will be lured into this because of Faison’s (Turk on “Scrubs”) inclusion. Since he broke onto the big screen in Clueless his movie career has left much to be desired. Now a TV star, his return to the silver screen is a welcome happening. With a supporting cast

Movie Review - 'Next Day Air'

8 May 2009 12:01 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Next Day Air

Starring Donald Faison, Mike Epps, and Wood Harris

Directed by Benny Boom

Rated R

For a few unconnected moments, Next Day Air actually works. The entire idea behind it isn't very sound, and that proves very hard to overcome, but some individual scenes are Ok, but that's the best than can be said of the film.

The real problem is that Next Day Air is essentially a comedy of mistaken identity - the kind of thing a farce is built on - but since it involves coke dealers and a shipment gone wrong, it's hard to laugh at the drawn guns and consequences. But Next Day Air doesn't inform us enough that we know whether or not we're supposed to.

Directed by music video veteran Benny Boom, Next Day Air begins with a lazy courier (Donald Faison from Scrubs) delivering a box to the wrong apartment. What

Next Day Air

7 May 2009 9:23 PM, PDT | From NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news

Far from the worst of Taran tino knockoffs, "Next Day Air" takes the standard formula of dimwits chasing bags of drugs to the 'hood.

A stoned deliveryman (Donald Faison) mistakenly delivers a huge box of cocaine to the wrong address, where lowlifes Guch (Wood Harris) and Brody (Mike Epps) try to figure out what to do with it. On the couch sleeps a huge guy neither of them invited to live with them, but both of them are too afraid to ask him to leave.

Poll: Who Wins the Weekend?

A post like this probably isn’t very fair this week, seeing as Star Trek is poised to drop in pretty spectacular fashion. Even so, X-Men Origins: Wolverine opened to extremely large numbers last week and will definitely be sticking around this week to give those boys and girls from the Starship Enterprise a run for their money. Also in wide release opposite Star Trek is an urban action comedy starring Donald Faison and Mike Epps. But let’s back up and take a better look at this week’s offerings.Star TrekWhat's the Scoop: J.J. Abrams and his band of merry fanboys have arrived to reboot the Star Trek franchise so that there’s more action, more suspense and hotter stars. The Reject Report Beams Up Star Trek

7 May 2009 5:47 PM, PDT | From FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news

Space -- the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its five year mission: to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before. Yes, the weekend that all Trekkies have been waiting for -- ever since this flick was moved back to the summer from last winter -- is finally here. Star Trek opens and will no doubt be the number one movie at the box office this weekend. In fact, its opening is sooner than a lot of people think, on Thursday night with 7 pm screenings happening in a reported 3,800 theaters. So it promises to be a very big weekend indeed for science fiction fans. I'll have plenty to say about that, but I'll start off first by getting out of the way my thoughts about this weekend's cinematic roadkill, Next Day Air. It's

Critics Consensus: Star Trek Is The Best-Reviewed Wide Release of 2009!

7 May 2009 10:07 AM, PDT | From Rotten Tomatoes | See recent Rotten Tomatoes news

This week at the movies, we've got a brand new Enterprise (Star Trek, starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto) and a failed delivery (Next Day Air, starring Donald Faison and Mike Epps). What do the critics have to say? It boldly goes where no Trek has gone before. This new Trek will live long and prosper. No matter what clichés they may use, there's no getting around the critics' main point: Jj Abrams' Star Trek is stirring mainstream entertainment, and breathes new life into the moribund franchise. It's an origin story, one that tells the tale of how Kirk (Chris...

[Movie Review] Next Day Air

6 May 2009 5:59 PM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

Expectations are important to any film-going experience, so it’s only fair to note that I went into Next Day Air expecting it to be a bad comedy. Much to my surprise, it turned out to be a bad action film and a bad drama in addition to being a bad comedy. What a world.

Leo, an inept employee for the titular Next Day Air delivery service (played by Donald Faison) spends most of his time on the job tossing cardboard boxes around haphazardly and getting high on weed. This relative stasis is broken when he accidentally delivers a package full of cocaine to Brody (Mike Epps) and Guch (Wood Harris), two small time thugs who immediately try to turn the cocaine around and sell it to Brody’s cousin Shavoo (Omari Hardwick). Naturally, the cocaine’s intended recipients (Cisco Reyes and Yasmin Deliz) are none too happy about this,
