Started as a gag writer for "The Phil Baker Hour" on radio in the 1930's. Under contract to Paramount from 1937. Was best-known for his screenplay (with Everett Freeman) of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947). Later did much television work, including work as lead writer for Dr. Joyce Brothers.
