Hollywood star Robin Williams and Scottish funnyman Billy Connolly have been named the greatest stand-up comedians of all time.
Mrs. Doubtfire actor Williams topped a poll of the most influential international comics, edging out Irishmen Spike Milligan in second and Dave Allen in third. Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy rounded out the top five.
In the British category, Connolly came first, beating double act Morecambe and Wise into second place. Victoria Wood came third, cross-dresser Eddie Izzard was fourth, and politically-charged writer Ben Elton was fifth in the survey, carried out by U.K. TV comedy channel Dave. »

Three years after his last movie release, Richard Curtis is set to direct a new British film from his own script called About Time, which is being billed as a low-budget time travel dramady. The project is currently in pre-production with Working Title Films and casting is now getting underway ahead of filming in the summer.
Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films have worked together with Richard Curtis on both of the big-screen films he has directed, producing Love Actually and The Boat That Rocked. Details about the plot haven’t yet been revealed but Curtis may have been influenced by writing an episode of the time travel TV show Doctor Who.
He most recently wrote the screenplay for Steven Spielberg’s War Horse and is working on a number of other projects including a new collaboration with his Blackadder co-writer Ben Elton, rom com Lost For Words, »

Fresh off of the critical success of War Horse, Richard Curtis is looking to hop back into the director’s chair this summer with self-written ‘low-budget time travel feature’ About Time. And excuse the terrible pun but it’s about time he did get back to making films because they’re ever so lovely when he does. Ever since Love Actually Richard Curtis could literally murder someone and I would think that it was a kind-hearted gesture (well not literally of course, that would be very naïve of me). I think what I’m trying to say is that I just want to give him a hug.
His new project is in production with Working Title with head honcho Tim Bevan telling The Hollywood Reporter that casting is underway for the project with hopes that principal photography will start “sometime this summer”.
The project follows on from 2009’s The Boat That Rocked, »

The writer and director better known for rom-com hits such as Four Weddings and a Funeral is to direct a science-fiction film, based on his own screenplay
He is known as the populist creator of Brit rom-com box-office hits such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill and Love Actually, so it may come as some surprise that Richard Curtis's next project is to be a low-budget science-fiction film about time travel.
Curtis will direct About Time from his own screenplay, his third turn behind the cameras following 2009's pirate radio paean The Boat That Rocked, which received mixed reviews and sunk at the box office. The film is being produced by Working Title, the British production company behind many of Curtis's best-known films and is said to be a mix of comedy and drama. Producer Tim Bevan told the Hollywood Reporter that casting was under way and »

King of the Rom Com Richard Curtis is back in the saddle again to ‘About Time’, a low budget time travel movie from his own script.
The project is in preproduction with Working Title Films, the Universal-owned production house led by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.
Bevan has said casting is under way for the project and hopes it will go before the cameras ‘sometime this summer.’
The film is an an anticipated event for the British industry, uniting a very renowned writer with Working Title again after the two last worked together on Curtis’ big-screen directorial sophomore effort, 2009′s The Boat That Rocked.
Curtis most recently penned the screenplay for Steven Spielberg’s War Horse and has also (rather aptly) written an episode of the BBC’s Doctor Who.
He is expected to direct the time-travel dramady ahead of other projects he is working on which include a fresh »

Richard Curtis has only sat himself in the director’s chair twice over the course of a long and successful writing career, but it’s About Time. (I didn’t think that one was any good, either.) THR tells us that he’ll follow up Love Actually and Pirate Radio with, yes, About Time, a “low-budget time-travel” dramedy that he’s written himself. Being his next project, About Time is taking precedence over some other promising material, including a new script with his BlackAdder co-creator, Ben Elton, as well as Stephen Daldry‘s Trash.
Working Title Films is producing and casting the picture, which is said to get shooting “sometime this summer” — so long as everything goes smoothly. I’d like to know more about the story — it, like almost any traditional film, is the most crucial aspect of entries in the genre — but that has to wait. I’d guess that, »

On the morning of Monday 9th January 2012, just hours after the British premier at the Odeon in London’s Leicester Square, a press conference for Steven Spielberg's latest film War Horse was held in the magnificent ballroom of Claridge's, one of London's most lavish hotels located in the heart of Mayfair. As I reported in the first part of this article (which you can read here), the event was split into two halves, the first of which featured Spielberg and his long-time producer Kathy Kennedy speaking about the movie in what was a fascinating and informative half an hour.
The second part, though, was equally interesting, as author Michael Morpurgo and screenwriter Richard Curtis discussed the genesis of the story and its journey from Morpurgo's moving and poignant children's book that was originally published in 1982 to Curtis's script that Spielberg drew much of his direction from, and actors Jeremy Irvine, »

The first world war epic filmed in Devon and Wiltshire could only have been made in the UK, according to the director
It was filmed in Devon and Wiltshire, is packed with the UK's top acting talent and saw the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at its royal premiere on Sunday night. Now director Steven Spielberg has said that he regards War Horse as his first truly British film.
"This could only have been shot in England," he told a press conference in London on Monday morning. "After I heard the reaction last night at the Odeon in Leicester Square, I realised that I'd made my first British film with War Horse. Through and through."
Spielberg said the epic had been inspired in part by John Ford's Welsh-set 1941 film How Green Was My Valley. Like his heroes Ford and David Lean, he had attempted to use the British countryside »
