Jennifer Ellison is to front a UK version of Lifetime factual entertainment series Dance Moms.

The eight-part series, produced by Shiver, will have a similar format to the Us show, with Ellison's Liverpool dance school, Fame Academy, providing the setting.

The actress and award-winning dancer said: "I watch Dance Moms and Abby Lee Miller on Lifetime, so I am delighted to be part of a UK version. I can promise drama, humour and a lot of entertainment.

"I won't let anything that isn't West End leading lady standard go out that door!"

The Us series follows dance teacher Miller as she deals with pushy parents and their child performers as they embark on their early showbusiness careers. It has the highest ratings for a non-fiction series on Lifetime in the Us.

"The Dance Moms format lends itself perfectly to a local UK adaptation," said Miles Jarvis, executive producer at Shiver. »
