Zack Snyder steps down from Justice League after family tragedy, Joss Whedon to complete film

2 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Some very sad news this evening, as Zack Snyder has announced that he is stepping down from Warner Bros.’ upcoming superhero blockbuster Justice League following the death of his daughter Autumn Snyder. Joss Whedon, director of Marvel’s The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, it set to finish the film ahead of its November release date.

THR is reporting that Autumn committed suicide in March, and although the filmmaker was initially keen to return to work following a two-week break on the production, he and his wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder have now decided to step away in order to deal with the immediate effects of the tragedy.

“In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it,” said Snyder. “The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all consuming. »

This is the latest installment of a series exploring significant films from the careers of directors showing new work at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

Noah Baumbach characters are almost always enduring growing pains, even if they stopped growing years ago. One of his most defining characteristics as a filmmaker is his ability to create coming-of-age stories for any age group.

The Meyerowitz Stories’ First Look: Noah Baumbach and Adam Sandler Compete for the Palme d’Or

The Meyerowitz Stories,” Baumbach’s first film to screen at the Cannes Film Festival, sounds Baumbachian enough: It centers on an estranged family that convenes in New York for an event celebrating the artistic work of their father. The film stars Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, and Emma Thompson.

Soured relationships and artistic achievement are recurring themes in Baumbach’s work, and are often directly related to the painful transitions that take his »

Now Variety reports the Now You See Me 2 star is going full biopic for an upcoming movie about Marcel Marceau, the internationally renowned mime and actor who was a part of the French Resistance in his youth. Eisenberg will play Marceau, who joined the French underground in Limoges, where he would alter the ages on the identification cards of other Jewish teens in an effort to keep them out of the labor camps. He also hid Jewish children from the Gestapo, and even posed as a Boy Scout leader to smuggle them into Switzerland. Sadly, when he returned to his hometown of Strasbourg, he learned his father had been captured and sent to Auschwitz, where he was killed along with so many others.

Jesse Eisenberg to Play Marcel Marceau in French Resistance Tale

Jesse Eisenberg has been tapped to play legendary mime Marcel Marceau in “Resistance.”

This won’t be the usual artist biopic, however. The film will focus on Marceau’s involvement in the French resistance when his country was occupied by the Nazis during World War II.

The film’s backers compare it to “Life Is Beautiful,” the 1999 Oscar-winner about a man using comedy to help his son cope with the Holocaust. In a similar vein, Marceau learned to mime to survive and to save the lives of Jewish orphans whose parents had just been killed by the Nazis. Before taking on his stage persona of Bip the Clown, he was born Marcel Mangel to a kosher butcher from Strasbourg. His father was eventually killed in Auschwitz.

Justice League rumored to undergo massive reshoots, studio insiders deny claim

17 May 2017 5:28 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It has been reported that the upcoming Justice League movie has been undergoing massive reshoots before its November release date, with the rumour even going as far to say that the film has been “remade… twice”, with further significant reshoots planned.

Given the critical reception of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad (a movie that also underwent reshoots), this report could naturally lead fans to assume that Justice League is in trouble. However, according to a Warner Bros. insider, these reshoots are being blown way out of proportion. This unnamed studio insider recently spoke to The Wrap to put people at ease:

“There has been no additional photography to date on Justice League, we have planned and will shoot additional pickups early summer. Additional photography has always been planned like most pictures in general but certainly for a tentpole of Justice League’s size and scope.”

The Big Sick and more true stories written by the subject for the big screenThe Big Sick and more true stories written by the subject for the big screenAdriana Floridia5/15/2017 10:35:00 Am

Films based on a true story tend to hit a little harder.

Watching a story unfold and knowing that it's not a work of fiction, but the real life experience of an actual human being, makes everything that occurs that much more impactful. It's incredibly common for films to be based on true life for that reason; it is an instant emotional investment beyond what most fiction can provide. It doesn't happen incredibly often, but sometimes we get the treat of not just watching a work of art, but someone's personal life story being displayed in their own words.

This summer, we are seeing one of these instances with The Big Sick, a film co-written by Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, »

Jesse Eisenberg, Pierce Brosnan, Vanessa Redgrave to star in 'The Medusa'

11 May 2017 7:00 AM, PDT | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

Exclusive: Fortitude International to launch sales in Cannes.

Fortitude International will introduce international buyers in Cannes to The Medusa starring Jesse Eisenberg, Pierce Brosnan and Vanessa Redgrave.

Peter Webber will direct his second film based on a renowned work of art after 2003’s Girl With A Pearl Earring, named after the painting by 17th century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer.

The Medusa stars Eisenberg as Theodore Gericault, the early 19th century pioneer of the French Romantic movement whose masterpiece The Raft Of The Medusa was inspired by the sinking of a French frigate.

Survivors of the wreck spoke of incompetence and cannibalism and the painting stirred anti-royalist sentiment at the time of King Louis Xviii’s rule.

Brosnan will portray Gericault’s uncle Caruel, the artist’s nemesis who is hell-bent on ruining him, while Redgrave plays the painter’s anti-royalist innkeeper.

Sophia Al-Maria adapted the screenplay from Jonathan Miles’s book The Wreck Of The Medusa.

10 Characters Who Could Cameo In Justice League

Justice League is going to be a big movie. Not just in terms of the box office business it will rake in, or in the scope of its apocalyptic storyline, but in the length of the cast list in the credits.

As well as uniting Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Mamoa and Ray Fisher as the titular League, the movie will also feature a bunch of supporting characters from the heroes’ individual franchises. For instance, the likes of Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Amber Heard as Queen Mera, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Willem Dafoe as Vulco and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor are all set to appear in some capacity.

While having such an inflated cast could hinder the movie, you can understand why Zack Snyder and his team have brought in so many characters. After all, »
