The cast and creators of of “Battlestar Galactica” reunited Thursday at Comic-Con in San Diego to reminisce about the landmark Syfy drama.
“It was December of ‘o1 when that subject of terrorism was in the air,” Eick told moderator Maureen Ryan of Variety. “Suddenly it took on a whole new meaning because we realized that were talking about the holocaust of a whole people.”
“Battlestar Galactica” was loosely inspired by the original series of the same name that premiered in 1978. But the reboot was very much a creature of its time, the show’s EPs said Thursday.
Asked by an audience member at Thursday’s panel how the show would be different if created today, Eick joked, “The crazy, unqualified captain.” The crowd then broke into applause.

Syfy’s Battlestar Galactica developer Ronald D. Moore and the cast reunited on the closing night of 2017’s Atx Television festival in a theater packed with adoring fans. Onstage, Moore recalled his initial hesitation in doing a series reboot of the 1978 original. “I had done ten years of [Star] Trek and I wasn't sure I wanted to go back into space again,” he shared on his thoughts about being approached to do the project by exec producer David Eick in 2002. Austin, Texas — The lively and laughter-filled “Battlestar Galactica” panel at the Atx Television Festival started to seem like an episode of the show about halfway through its nearly two-hour running time: Technical glitches garbled the Skype participation of cast member Jamie Bamber, who called in from France. Maybe it was the Cylons having a last bit of revenge?
For a few minutes, Bamber’s face on a screen loomed over the reunited cast, and when a connection was finally established, most of Bamber’s answers were unintelligible. Mary McDonnell, who played Laura Roslin, stood up from the gray couches assembled on the Paramount Theatre stage and tried to chat with Bamber. Edward James Olmos, who played Admiral William Adama on the Peabody-winning Syfy series, also stood up and asked Bamber if he had headphones with a microphone to cut down on the audio difficulties. He then tried to call Bamber on his phone.
