Matthew Ehlers is a New-York-based filmmaker with three decades of writing and directing experience. After graduating USC Cinema, Matthew created public service ads for the American Cancer Society & Shipping Dock Theatre, the latter featuring Philip Seymour Hoffman. He has directed commercials for Birkenstock, Hard Rock Café, Walmart & The Little Theatre. He collaborated with the George Eastman Museum to create a series of documentaries on film processes called Inventions of Photography. His short films Lunch, Autobank, & Who's Your Daddy were all official selections to the Sundance Film Festival & SXSW and broadcast by IFC and HBO. Matthew directed the comedy short series Cappers for Comedy Central with co-writers Nick Kroll & John Mulaney. He also created a cartoon series, Animungus, for the Cartoon Network. Matt was a finalist in the Chrysler Million Dollar Film Festival created by Doug Liman. Matt was commissioned by Now Films in Manchester, UK to write the screenplay for their feature project, Running Naked. His first feature film, Smoking Laws, is represented by PUSH Worldwide & is currently being distributed by Scanbox Entertainment in the UK. He is currently filming a feature documentary about the 1976 arrest of David Bowie in Rochester which resulted in home of the most infamous mug shots in Rock N' Roll history.
