- Egan based Tribunal (1999), his award-winning episode of The Outer Limits (1995), on his father Leo's experiences in Auschwitz. Leo's first wife and daughter were brutally murdered by the Nazis at the concentration camp.
- When his parents moved from Europe to America, they wanted to change their last name to sound more American so they chose Egan, the last name of their favorite actor, Richard Egan.
- He wrote 19 episodes of The Outer Limits (1995), more than anyone else.
