Director F. Gary Gray Takes On ‘Straight Outta Compton’

10 April 2012 1:26 PM, PDT | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Breaking: As Deadline revealed earlier today,  F. Gary Gray is in final talks to helm Straight Outta Compton. That’s the New Line project that traces the formation of seminal hip hop group Nwa, which launched careers including Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Mc Ren and DJ Yella. The group branded itself with volatile songs like Fuck tha Police and politically charges songs that reflected the growing ire of urban youth in the 1980s and set the tone for gangsta Los Angeles rap culture. The film was set up at New Line by Cube’s Cube Vision. Gray last directed Law Abiding Citizen, Be Cool and The Italian Job. He has also directed music videos for Ice Cube. Gray is repped by UTA and Principato-Young. »

Bobbi Kristina Wants To Play Her Mother In Whitney Houston Biopic

9 April 2012 8:14 AM, PDT | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

No teenager should have to face the kind of stuff Bobbi Kristina Brown has gone through in the last two months, and the strain has definitely become clear. The 19-year-old was hospitalized for anxiety following the sudden death of her superstar mother Whitney Houston in February, and her mental state has been understandably fragile ever since. When you factor in her father Bobby Brown’s DUI, media scrutiny of her relationship with adopted brother Nick Gordon, and the grief of a lost parent, it’s not that surprising that Bobbi has reportedly been self-medicating with drugs to deal with the stress. And it makes us sad. Not Lindsay Lohan sad, but real, genuine sad.

So that’s why these reports of Bobbi getting some acting gigs are making us feel a little better. Hopefully the work will help get her out of the massive emotional funk. Just last week it »

Ice Cube, Movie Star, Rapper, Writer, Director: Looking Back At Controversial Star's Career

16 March 2012 9:20 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

This weekend, as moviegoers laugh along to Ice Cube's comic turn as a churlish police officer in the new comedy "21 Jump Street," how many will recall that the multi-talented performer was once so controversial that his very image was banned from public display in the state of Oregon? The specific cause of the ban was the cover of Ice Cube's 1991 solo album, "Death Certificate," which showed him pledging allegiance to Uncle Sam. Patriotic enough, except that this Uncle Sam is dead, laid out on a gurney and wrapped in the American flag. It was hardly the first time Ice Cube had provoked controversy with his raw, combative commentary on U.S. society. Ice Cube (given name: O'Shea Jackson) first made a name for himself as a member of the rap group N.W.A., whose unapologetic celebration of gangster life in South Central, Los Angeles, earned the adoration of millions »

Rachel Bilson, Wilson Bethel go 'Thug Lite': Watch the 'Call Me Doctor' video now

18 January 2012 9:38 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Last fall, "Hart of Dixie" star Wilson Bethel wrote The CW's "Give a Shirt" mock-psa, proving that he's more than just a (very, very, extremely, perfectly) handsome face. Now, in anticipation of "Hart of Dixie's" return to our screens next week, he's bestowed yet another hilarious gem on the internet.

Meet Thug Lite, Aka Rachel Bilson, flanked by "Dixie" co-stars Bethel and Scott Porter in "Call Me Doctor," a hilarious anthem that parodies everything from their own show to "Black Swan." There are even references to her "O.C." co-stars. We love it!

"Eazy E? Biggie Smalls? Hova? Step aside: We making rap music history tonight," Bethel tweeted in the hours leading up to the big debut. "The Future Of Hip-hop: Mc Rachel 'Thug Lite' Bilson."

What do you think of the video? Watch below & drop us a comment.
