Trailer for Susanne Bier's 'Love is All You Need' is a Bit Odd

27 November 2012 1:00 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

This trailer for Susanne Bier's Love is All You Need is so confusing to me. In it Pierce Brosnan plays an Englishman living in Denmark and for some reason he runs around speaking English while everyone else is speaking Danish and they clearly understand him and he understands them, but why aren't they all speaking the same language? Perhaps that's all part of the wacky vibe Bier is going for as this is clearly not the dramatic fare we are largely used to praising out of Bier such as After the Wedding and In a Better World, but it just struck me as odd. Love is All You Need played the Toronto Film Festival and didn't exactly make a splash, but Sony Pictures Classics picked it up and will distribute the film in 2013. Here's the synopsis: Love is All You Need is a new film by Oscar winner Susanne Bier, »

Watch: Pierce Brosnan and Trine Dyrholm Clash and Make Nice In Charming Trailer For Susanne Bier's 'Love Is All You Need' (Video)

27 November 2012 6:58 AM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

After bagging an Oscar for her searing drama "In a Better World," Danish director Susanne Bier is back with the romantic comedy "Love Is All You Need," a film that bears no resemblance to her award-winning effort, save for the welcome presence of actress Trine Dyrholm. After playing to great notices at Venice and Toronto, the first international trailer for the Sony Pictures Classics pickup has surfaced, and it's a charmer. "Love Is All You Need" stars Dyrholm as grief stricken woman who heads to Sorento, Italy alone to attend her daughter's wedding, after discovering that her husband had been cheating on her. It's there that she forms a bond with her daughter's soon-to-be father-in-law, Philip (Pierce Brosnan). Bier's frequent star Paprika Sheen also makes an appearance. Sony Pictures Classics has yet to announce a North American release date for the picture. Watch the international promo below: »

Trailer Watch: 'Love Is All You Need' in Susanne Bier's Latest

26 November 2012 12:38 PM, PST | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Susanne Bier, whose "In A Better World" won the Best Foreign Language Oscar and Golden Globe in 2011, returns with lighter fare in "Love Is All You Need." With Pierce Brosnan and "Better World"'s Trine Dyrholm at the helm, the film looks more cliched than inspired with its theme of complicated love and glorious locales. It looks a bit like Woody Allen meets "Mamma Mia!" -- the trailer is selling it more as romantic comedy than drama. Festival reviews have been mostly so-so, but the Telegrah is certainly a fan. Check out the trailer below. Sony Pictures Classics will unveil the film theatrically next year. "Love Is All You Need" debuted at Venice before heading to Toronto earlier this year. »

If Miguel Gomes's recent works like Tabu gave you a taste for Portuguese cinema, you'll find more promise here amid a celebration of Portuguese culture. There's a new documentary on artist Paula Rego, while Pilar del Río talks to Maya Jaggi after the acclaimed doc José And Pilar, about the author José Saramago. There are also docs on architecture and the fascist era, but if there's a new young film-maker to watch, it's João Salaviza, who presents short films including his ghetto drama Arena, which won best short at Cannes in 2009.

International Trailer For Susanne Bier’s Love Is All You Need, Starring Pierce Brosnan!

22 November 2012 6:36 AM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Life is full of surprises and little accidents… and that’s exactly what you’re going to see from this cool international trailer for Susanne Bier‘s latest movie titled Love Is All You Need. Awww, of course this is a romantic comedy, but it definitely looks interesting! Not to mention that some seriously good cast is involved in the whole thing. You know, like Pierce Brosnan and Trine Dyrholm, for example…

So, Oscar winner Susanne Bier stands behind this romantic story which she co-wrote together with Anders Thomas Jensen. The movie stars Pierce Brosnan as Philip, a lonely, middle-aged widower and estranged single father. Or, if you prefer – an Englishman in Denmark.

Trine Dyrholm, on the other hand, plays Ida, a Danish hairdresser, recuperating from chemotherapy, who has just learned that her husband is leaving her for a woman half his age from the accounts department.

5 New Photos From Susanne Bier's 'Love Is All You Need' Starring Pierce Brosnan

12 September 2012 12:05 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Danish director Susanne Bier, who was behind the much acclaimed, but decidedly tough likes of "Brothers," "After the Wedding" and Hollywood debut "Things We Lost In the Fire," is not exactly the obvious choice for a romantic comedy. Particularly given that she just won the Foreign Language Oscar a couple of years back for "In a Better World." And yet Bier began her career with rom-coms like 'The One and Only" and "Once In a Lifetime," so her new film, "Love Is All You Need," perhaps shouldn't come as such a shock. The film, which stars regular collaborator Paprika Steen and former 007 Pierce Brosnan, revolves around Ida (Trine Dyrholm), who finishes chemotherapy only to discover her husband cheating on her on the eve of their daughter's wedding. Chaos is caused, but she soon finds romance with the father of the groom (Brosnan). The film premiered at Venice last week before heading to Tiff, »

Tiff Capsule Review: 'Love Is All You Need'

10 September 2012 8:19 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Danish director Susanne Bier's follow-up to her Oscar-winning "In a Better World" is a welcome change from the overdone weightiness of her last few films in favor of a conventionally heartwarming romance about aging loners finding a catharsis in companionship. Trine Dyrholm plays Ida, a hairdresser and cancer survivor whose solemn life is complicated when she comes home for a doctor's visit to find her husband fooling around with a woman half her age. The timing couldn't be worse, since Ida's young daughter plans to get married soon at an orange grove in Italy. At the height of her frustration, Ida literally slams into the father of the groom, wealthy businessman and longtime bachelor Phillip (Pierce Brosnan), as they're both en route to the airport. Despite the poor introduction, the duo hit it off, drawn together by their mutual loneliness. As the wedding unfolds amid the usual pile-up of »

Tiff announced their last batch of titles for their primo Gala and Special Presentation events and it comes as no surprise that we’ve got ourselves several future Venice (Bad 25, Love is All You Need, Spring Breakers, Passion and The Master) and left over Cannes titles (White Elephant, On The Road, The Paperboy) set for some Special Presentation spots, but it’s the World Premieres that Tonrot have managed to lasso that have got out attention. Following the Toronto International Film Festival line-up earlier this week, the 69th Venice Film Festival has weighed in with their choices this morning. Outside of films also premiering at Tiff — including most notably Ramin Bahrani‘s At Any Price and Terrence Malick‘s To the Wonder – they have a strong batch of films not at that fest.
