Hilary Duff continues her quest to grow up from Lizzie McGuire to big-girl actress, following her sexy "Reach Out" video last year (still love that "Personal Jesus" sample) and her threesome-gone-awry on Gossip Girl this fall. Now she's completing the "take me seriously" trifecta with a leading role in the oh-so-indie According to Greta (releasing Friday), about a 17-year-old girl who arrives at her grandparents' place on the Jersey Shore for the summer and promptly announces to them that she's planning to kill herself by the time she turns 18. Check out the trailer (which we debuted last month): Tell me if I'm wrong, »

You've seen Zooey Deschanel as a blonde before, most memorably for the modern holiday classic Elf, but you still might not recognize her in this new print ad for Absolut Vodka. In fact, she looks kind of like Hilary Duff as the sci-fi go-go girl promoting an Absolut-brand cosmopolitan. Regardless of who she resembles, though, the ad puts it into my head that Deschanel might be perfect for that remake of Barbarella -- if currently attached director Robert Luketic doesn't go with regular collaborator Kate Bosworth. In general, I'm reminded that everyone's favorite Mpdg (manic pixie dream girl) needs to do more science fiction, even if she seemed all wrong for her Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy role and even if she need never work for M. Night Shyamalan again.
Deschanel's single Absolut ad is part of a campaign that also sees Kate Beckinsale in three different spots, including one »

This week sees an impressive list of heavy-hitters make a late December showing as Clint Eastwood and Peter Jackson deliver their latest, Werner Herzog assembles the unlikely pairing of Udo Kier and Verne Troyer, and Tom Ford unveils his directorial debut.
Hilary Duff adds the title of executive producer to her résumé by backing the feature debut of veteran music video director Nancy Bardawil. After demonstrating a dark side on "Gossip Girl" this season, Duff continues to shed her good girl image as a rebellious 17-year-old who proves to be too much of a handful for her mother (Melissa Leo) and is sent off to spend the summer on Jersey Shore with her grandparents (Ellen Burstyn and Michael Murphy), to whom she promises she will kill herself by her 18th birthday. In the midst of plotting her suicide, she begins a romance with a troubled short-order cook »

Though the awards for this year's best cultural achievements won't be handed out until the calendar turns over, this week has built up a bunch of buzz for statuettes. The Grammy Awards announced their nominations on Wednesday night, and though there are a few strange moments on that list, it has kept everybody excited for the work of Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé. Meanwhile, today sees the release of "Up in the Air," the new film directed by Jason Reitman ("Juno," "Thank You for Smoking") and starring George Clooney. The film — which centers around the life of a frequently-flying consultant who is brought in to lay people off — is already scoring a bunch of awards and is an early contender for a bevy of Oscars.

Hilary Duff has steamed up "Gossip Girl" as famous-movie-actress-in-disguise Olivia Burke for quite some time now, but she apparently was indecisive on taking on the role because of the similarity between the character and herself. The star of "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" confessed of her uncertainty in the January 2010 issue of Nylon magazine.
"I was a little hesitant," the 22-year-old opened up. She, furthermore, elaborated on the reason why, saying "It was kind of close to home...then I realized, I would never say something [that Olivia says] like, 'Oh, this is just for the cameras.' I think that's what makes me so different from some of the other people my age."
"It seemed for a time there were people who hated each other - and I knew they hated each other - but they were in pictures together all the time, smiling and throwing their arms around each other," Duff additionally stated. »

Hilary Duff’s new film According to Greta hits theaters on Dec. 11 and EW has an exclusive look at the trailer. She plays troubled 17-year-old Greta, who is forced by her mom (Melissa Leo) to spend the summer with her elderly grandparents (Ellen Burstyn and Michael Murphy) in a Jersey Shore town. But Greta has a summer romance -- with a busboy (Evan Ross) -- that cheers her up, even if her grandparents don't approve. Maybe this bratty/mopey role (shot in 2007) would seem more shocking had we not recently witnessed Duff involved in a threesome on Gossip Girl. Still, »

The singer – who is divorcing estranged husband Deryck Whibley – has been seen out several times with American actor Wilmer Valderrama and the pair have apparently been getting very close. Over the weekend, Avril, 25, and 29-year-old Wilmer were spotted at Los Angeles club Wonderland getting cosy. An onlooker is quoted by Us gossip blogger Perez Hilton as saying: “She had her hand on his knee and they were whispering in each other's ear, laughing. They even closed the club, sneaking out just after 2am.” Since splitting from Sum 41 rocker Deryck in September, Avril has also been romantically linked to oil heir Brandon Davis - who has also dated Lindsay and Paris Hilton. As well as Lindsay, Wilmer has previously been in relationships with Mandy Moore and Hilary Duff. Avril filed for divorce at a Los Angeles court last month citing "irreconcilable differences". With Hilary Duff's Olivia Burke out of the picture on Gossip Girl and no plans for the show to bring her back this season, does this clear the way for Dan and Vanessa?
Duff's all-but-certain departure was confirmed this week after the threesome-gone-awry. But it was Dan's surprise feelings for V that prompted the big O to pack it in.
Is Danessa the next big Gossip Girl couple, though? According to reports, the following couples will be getting together (or staying together) by the end of the season:
Dan and Serena are totally getting together ... with other people!
Dan and Vanessa, as "They Shoot Humphreys, Don't They?" and "The Last Days of Disco Stick" foreshadowed, are definitely on. They will be getting together this season. Same with Nate and Serena, who will become a bona fide couple. Rufus and Lily will have a big problem (Serena's dad), though. Through it all, »

Ladies and gentlemen (and gentlemen who sleep with two ladies), Hilary Duff has left the building! That's what I'm hearing from Gossip Girl sources, that the Duffster (Olivia) is no longer a part of the CW series and there are no plans for her to return this season. Will she be missed? The jury's still out. So now that things have gotten all messy on Gossip Girl thanks to that two-week-long threesome (talk about a workout!), what will happen next? Are Nate and Serena really on? Who's gonna be smooching Dan? And what does Jessica Szohr (Vanessa) have to dish about filming the threesome with Hilary and Penn Badgley? According to sources, Dan and Vanessa... »

Lady Gaga brought some "Bad Romance" to the table on "Gossip Girl" this week, and the song seemed to reflect the threesome storyline that is currently taking place on the show. Now that Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) has hooked up with Olivia (Hilary Duff) and Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) at the same time, emotions are getting involved.
While there was a fair amount of public outcry over the show taking on such a topic, Szohr isn't making any apologies for the naughty plotline.
"Like I said, our show does a very good job with their advertising and the things that they do, so when they had this talk of a threesome coming up, so many people were talking about it and giving their opinions, »

Television sweeps are the best; the writers save up all the juicy storylines and make them explode during the pivotal time for networks. Sweeps Week is so important because the data that is collected by the Nielsen Rating is used by networks to set advertising costs based on their results. Because of this, many networks pull out all the stops and this year is absolutely no different. Many of the sweeps episodes have aired and later this week we will see what else the networks have in store for us, but we want to know what you think so far! CSI Trilogy: CBS took three of their most popular shows and brought fans a multiple night CSI event spanning CSI: Miami (TV), CSI: NY (TV) and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (TV). The teams from each city work together to help bring down one of the largest prostitute rings and by »

It's been a good couple of months since we heard casting news about The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, the movie that will star Hilary Duff as the historical figure once portrayed by Faye Dunaway, and may ruin cinematic history in the process. In case you were hoping that meant the whole thing was off, no such luck-- Screen Daily is reporting that Thora Birch, Taryn Manning and Cloris Leachman have been added to the cast, and filming will start soon enough in the South. They're not saying which characters the three ladies will be portraying, but presumably neither of them will start a feud with Dunaway the way Duff did when the project was first announced. Birch, of course, is well-remembered as the teenage daughter in American Beauty and Enid from Ghost World, but hasn't had a major movie role since the early part of this decade. Not sure »

Casting Tidbits roll out! First up, THR reports character actor Stephen Root has joined the casts of two vastly different forthcoming projects. In the Migeul Arteta directed comedy Cedar Rapids, Root will play the proud owner of an insurance company alongside Ed Helms, John C. Reilly and Anne Heche. On the other end of the spectrum, Robert Redford's historical drama, The Conspirator will see Root stepping into the role of a principal witness for the prosecution in the trial of supposed Confederate sympathizer, Mary Surratt, who is tried as a conspirator in the assassination of iconic President Abraham Lincoln. Almost a year ago, there was news about a remake of Bonnie and Clyde starring Hilary Duff and Kevin Zegers, but we thought the project had died because of how truly awful an idea it was. Apparently the project is still going strong as ScreenDaily reports have added Thora Birch »

Last night's Gossip Girl featured moral lines being crossed, bad decision making, romantic twists and turns, slightly confusing plot lines and a whole lot of Lady Gaga.
In short, pretty much what we were expecting. Follow the link for a full recap of "The Last Days of Disco Stick." Now for our review of what worked and what didn't:
Dan, Olivia and Vanessa: For the most part, the aftermath of last week's threesome was handled well ... even if it featured a lot of Vanessa being manhandled by Dan!
Olivia got jealous of V and Dan's supposed feelings for her and left to go film a movie. Fare thee well, Hilary Duff. You weren't too annoying, but it was time to say goodbye.
The odd twist we liked was that Vanessa seems to be interested in someone else, whereas Dan has feelings for her. We would have guessed it would be the other way around. »

When New Moon hits theaters on Friday, you can bet that plenty of stars will be in line for the flick along with other members of the public. Since Twilight mania began taking hold last year, everyone from Zac Efron to Kelly Clarkson to Joe Jonas have raved about the franchise. Some, like Kim Kardashian, have announced their fandom in less verbal ways: Recently, the reality star toted around a Twilight water bottle emblazoned with Taylor Lautner's face. Did you miss the most recent episode of "Gossip Girl"? Than you missed probably the best scene of The CW's extremely dull third season of the once fascinating show. By dull, I mean extremely dull. The producers of the drama have been doing everything imaginable to bring the show's ratings back to what they used to be including casting Hilary Duff (Lizzy McGuire) as a guest star and bringing in Lady Gage for a special appearance. On the previous episode 'The Last Day of Disco Stick', Lady Gaga did a special perfomance which wasn't half bad. I'm not a fan of the series, but I was quite intrigued. You can read on to check out a clip of the artist's peformance. Enjoy it while you can because it's probably the last truley entertaining aspect of "Gossip Girl" you'll see in a long time.
