CBS is doubling down on Big Brother.
The network announced today during its TCA summer press tour day that Big Brother: Celebrity Edition will return on the network for a third season in winter 2022, with an all-new group of celebrities living together in the Big Brother house.
The series previously aired in winter 2018 and 2019 and included television personalities Kandi Burruss, Omarosa Manigault Newman, and Ross Matthews, Olympians Lolo Jones and Ryan Lochte, and actors Shannon Elizabeth and Joey Lawrence.
The successful series has also included comedian Tom Green and former White House director of communications Anthony Scaramucci.
Actress Marissa Jaret Winokur and singer Tamar Braxton won season one and two, respectively.
While the series has been off the air for several years, it was never officially canceled, and it seemed more like the network would make a decision to bring it back when there was an opening.

The industry’s first directing pipeline program for unscripted shows has set its 2019-2020 class, helping to create equal representation behind the scenes on alternative series.
The Alternative Directors Program was launched two years ago to give experienced female and ethnically diverse directors the opportunity to expand their repertoire of alternative formats and complex directing styles. The ultimate goal is hiring them as show directors on an NBC or Universal Television Alternative Studios series.
This year, the program directors will rotate through two to three alternative shows across the network’s daytime, primetime and late night line-ups. During their tenure on each show, they will shadow the respective show directors through prep and production, with the goal of directing a meaningful segment on one of the shows they shadow. The show directors will also serve as their mentors and advocates.

Abramorama has bought North American theatrical rights to Stanley Nelson’s documentary “Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool” and plans releases in August and September.
“The story of Miles Davis – who he was as a man and artist – has often been told as the tale of a drug-addled genius,” said Nelson. “You rarely see a portrait of a man that worked hard at honing his craft, a man who deeply studied all forms of music, from Baroque to classical Indian. An elegant man who could render ballads with such tenderness yet hold rage in his heart from the racism he faced throughout his life.”

“The Voice,” NBC’s durably low-pressure hang with four music superstars, airs in the spring and fall, but Blake Shelton needs at least some time away from his revolving chair. Enter “Songland,” produced by former “Voice” judge Adam Levine — a series that applies “The Voice’s” attitude of cheerful bonhomie between industry A-listers to the songwriting process. On “The Voice,” it’s singers who compete for the affections, and the notional mentorship, of stars; here, it’s scribes aiming to convince the stars to record their tracks.
“Songland’s” first episode features John Legend (a panelist on the most recent season of “The Voice”), deciding which of a series of aspirants’ songs he’ll pick. The contestants perform their songs for Legend and for a panel of three professional songwriters before getting feedback and workshopping their songs to something Legend might actually want to record. Audrey Morrissey can’t stop the feeling.
The showrunner and executive producer of NBC’s “The Voice” spends most of her professional life thinking about songs. She thinks about the new and not-so-new tunes that should be in the repertoire of her hit singing-competition series. She thinks about how music can be a signpost for shifts in the culture. More than anything, she thinks about songs and artists and how to present them onstage for two very different sets of viewers at the same time: those in the studio audience and those watching on couches and beds and Barcaloungers at home.
Now, after a long run as a highly sought-after producer of concert specials, awards shows, live events and musical moments for the screen, Morrissey, 52, is getting her first shot at launching a series, which she co-created with famed songwriter-producer Dave Stewart and her husband and longtime collaborator, director Ivan Dudynsky.

The future is indeed female. NBC announced its inaugural class for their Alternative Directors Program — and they are all women.
The program is the industry’s first directing pipeline program for unscripted shows. The new initiative takes a step toward equal representation behind the scenes on alternative series — a part of the industry that falls short on inclusion despite the numerous unscripted shows on TV. The program gives experienced female and ethnically diverse directors access to expand their repertoire of alternative formats and complex directing styles with the ultimate goal of opening the door to future projects.
The seven program finalists and the celebrated directors who will serve as their mentors are: Madeline Fuste, Sarah De La O, Sharon Everitt, Carrie Havel, Annetta Marion (Making It), Cari Townsend and Lizz Zanin.
The inaugural class are experienced directors who have previously worked on acclaimed unscripted content including Oprah’s Master Class, Dancing with the Stars, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, and The View as well as sports events such as the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games, and concert films for platinum-selling recording artists.
The Alternative Directors Program was launched in May 2018 as part of NBC’s talent infusion programs (NBC Tips). The program gives female and ethnically diverse directors with at least one directing credit the opportunity to shadow a seasoned director on an NBC show over several weeks including prep, production, and post. The initiative will feed the pipeline for unscripted directors on NBC as well as shows produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio. The network’s ultimate goal is to extend the industry’s pool of experienced diverse directors who can work in various alternative formats.
The initiative is spearheaded by Meredith Ahr who was recently announced as NBC’s new President, Alternative and Reality Group, and Karen Horne, NBC’s Senior Vice President, Programming Talent Development & Inclusion, who oversees the company’s robust onscreen and behind-the-camera diversity efforts.

NBC’s long-gestating songwriting competition reality series Songland has received an 11-episode series order. The project hails from The Voice executive producer Audrey Morrissey, Eurythmics co-founder and producer Dave Stewart, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and his 222 Productions and OneRepublic’s RyaStewart hn Tedder.
Songland, produced by Universal Alternative Television Studio, aims at giving talented up-and-coming songwriters the opportunity to collaborate with three music producers per episode who are responsible for today’s biggest hits.
Songland had a long and slightly bumpy road to the screen. It was originally ordered to a pilot, with Stewart, Levine, Morrissey and director Ivan Dudynsky attached, in March 2015. A year later, as it was in the casting stage, the project came under intense scrutiny after an intellectual property attorney posted a warning about the onerous contract applicants were asked to sign giving up copyright on any submitted song. The issue was quickly addressed by...

Nickelodeon recently made legions of twentysomethings hungry for their childhood faves very happy when they launched a programming block on Teen Nick called The ’90s Are All That. Now, every night from midnight to 4:00am, you can watch All That, Kenan & Kel, Clarissa Explains It All, and Doug. More shows are expected to be rolled out soon, some of which are rumored to be Hey Dude, Rugrats, Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, Salute Your Shorts, and The Adventures Of Pete & Pete. Not only does this satiate the appetites of a generation for whom a sense of nostalgia is so strong that we take pictures on our iPhone and then filter them so they look like Polaroids from the 70′s (Guilty!), but it makes that sense of longing even stronger for those shows that are being ignored completely. Say, Roundhouse for example? Remember Roundhouse? It was on during Snick,...
