'House' finale: Alternate theory claims 'Everybody Dies' lives up to its title

22 May 2012 1:57 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

The final episode of "House" ended with House (Hugh Laurie) and Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) heading off to make the best of the limited time Wilson has left on Earth. Or did it?

An alternate reading of "Everybody Dies" roiling around the Internet posits that the series finale lived up to his title. The show's creator says otherwise, but as these things go, the theory is pretty well-considered.

(Spoilers for the finale are below, so bail out now if you're still waiting to watch.)

In the episode, House appears to die in a fire after spending much of the hour debating with manifestations of his subconscious -- played by former cast members and guest stars -- about what selfish, arrogant jerk he is. Just as he finally decides to change and sees Wilson and Foreman (Omar Epps) outside the burning building, a piece of the ceiling collapses in front of him. »

'House' Goes Out With A Bang

Series finale, 'Everybody Dies,' was flawed yet moving.

By Tami Katzoff

In the eight years "House" was on the air, the title character had plenty of opportunities to die: He'd been shot, electrocuted, in insulin shock and cardiac arrest and involved in a horrific bus crash, and he'd taken enough drugs to kill him many times over. Another chance came during Monday night's series finale — and it was a big one.

(Warning: Spoilers ahead!)

The episode, fittingly titled "Everybody Dies," starts off with the doctor lying half-conscious in a burning building after a heroin binge. Beside him lies his Patient of the Week, already dead. We know that he's facing six months in prison for violating his parole, and his best bud, James Wilson, is dying of cancer. Things do not bode well for Dr. House.

'House' series finale - 'Everybody Dies': Deconstructing Gregory

21 May 2012 11:42 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

The final episode of "House" brought back just about everybody (with one big exception) who's played a significant role on the show and presented us with a "This Is Your Life" sort of story for its central character.

It also mixed in some of the storytelling technique of one of the show's finest episodes, Season 1's "Three Stories," borrowed a little from "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and House's literary predecessor Sherlock Holmes and came to, if not the happiest of endings, at least a happy enough one for its central relationship, that of House and Wilson.

"Everybody Dies" was an ambitious episode, both thematically and in terms of production, and it's hard not to respect the show for going for it in its last episode. But for about 53 minutes, it was also kind of depressing. That mood reversed pretty quickly in the final scenes, and in a way that »

House Finale Review: Enjoy Yourself

21 May 2012 7:00 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Enjoy yourself. This is the very last thing we hear on House.

Ultimately, Hugh Laurie was right when he gave an interview at the House wrap party. He was asked about one word to describe the finale and after pondering it for a moment, he suggested that, even with a title like "Everybody Dies," the episode was actually "uplifting". I almost don't recognize this feeling I have right now because it's been a rarity. Satisfaction. I feel satisfaction at this ending.

Now, that's not to say that this finale was not without its flaws. But in terms of some of the specific character journeys, I'm left feeling like I can move on from this show without hesitation. The episode opens with House lying on the ground next to his dead patient. I still am unclear about how House and this patient arrived at this point, but what difference does it make? »

DVD Review: Latest Seasons of USA Hits ‘Suits,’ ‘Covert Affairs’

7 May 2012 10:52 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – USA continues to lead the way in terms of cable ratings. While FX and TNT have their loyal audiences and critics adore HBO and AMC, it’s really USA that can boast the most remarkable claims in terms of breakthrough ratings. Some of their biggest hits regularly clobber network competition. Two of them just hit DVD — “Suits: Season One” and “Covert Affairs: Season Two.” Fans will be happy with both but I have a clear favorite.

My initial review of “Suits” is proof positive that sending one episode of a TV series can make me look like an idiot. I stand by that review of the premiere. It was inert. It was generic. However, the show Quickly broke out of that pattern, finding interesting characters within the cliches and, most importantly, writing remarkably adult dialogue and legal action. “Suits” doesn’t treat its audience like idiots, never »

Our Mad Men Season 5 Dream Guest Stars: KStew, Coco And More!

23 March 2012 10:13 AM, PDT | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

The return of Mad Men is so close we can smell it, and it smells like Lucky Strikes and Canadian Club. The record busting series has made its stars Jon Hamm, January Jones, Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth Moss the hottest names in television. But the show also features some already-familiar faces. Community‘s Alison Brie has a recurring role as Trudy Campbell, while former House regular Anne Dudek often appears as Betty Draper’s gossipy neighbor Francine. Tom Hanks‘ son Colin, The Nanny star Charles Shaughnessy, and even Secret World of Alex Mack actress Larisa Oleynik are among the many who’ve taken smaller roles on the series over the years.

Over the winter we heard mutterings that 1960s icon Paul McCartney would be putting in a guest appearance on the retro-show this season. Devastatingly it never happened, but we’ve put together a few suggestions for cameos that we »

Actress Anne Dudek is a mother again after giving birth to a baby girl.

The Mad Men star and her artist husband Matthew Heller became parents to Saskia, a sister for their son Akiva, last month.

Dudek has opened up about her day-long labour in a post on her blog, revealing doctors wanted her to undergo a Caesarean section, but she insisted on a natural birth.

She adds, "I did push Saskia out, and it was one of the weirdest and most intense things I could ever imagine. I reached down and put my hands under two tiny armpits and pulled her to me, huge cheeks bright red, her little eyes darting about, my sweet love. Welcome to the world Saskia." »
