First Look: Chadwick Boseman & Nicole Beharie In Brian Helgeland's Jackie Robinson Film '42'

23 May 2012 6:40 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

With production underway on Brian Helgeland's Jackie Robinson biopic "42," we now have a number of set photos that provide us our first looks at newcomer Chadwick Boseman and "Shame" star Nicole Beharie respectively portraying Robinson and his wife, Rachel Isum.

The story, of course, centers the rise of Robinson, the first African-American baseballer in the Major League, and the controversy that surrounded the move, with another actor also added to the roster in Lucas Black (star of the original "Friday Night Lights" movie) who'll play shortstop Pee Wee Reese, a Dodgers player who embraced Robinson as soon as he joined. Cast also boasts Jon Bernthal as starting pitcher Ralph Branca, Christopher Meloni as in-fielder Leo Durocher, T.R. Knight as travelling secretary Harold Parrott, John C. McGinley as journalist Red Barber and Ryan Merriman as right-fielder Fred "Dixie" Walker.

No sign just yet of Harrison Ford, who plays Dodgers manager Branch Rickey, »

Question: How is next season of Glee going to work exactly, what with half the show being set in New York and the other half at McKinley? —Jenny

Ausiello: This is subject to change, but it’s my understanding that they’re taking a Lost-like approach to Season 4 — devoting whole episodes to one location or the other. In other words, the premiere might be set at Nyada with Rachel and Kurt, while Episode »

ABC Announces Fall Schedule – Get A Peek At What’s Coming

Terry O'Quinn as Gavin Doran in "666 Park Avenue" (ABC/Andrew Eccles)

ABC‘s slate of new shows for fall has a strange flavor to it, and it’s going to be a bumpy ride. The network has about as many new shows as returning ones (if you count all the midseasons), and a good percentage of the returning offerings are a year old or less, making this look a bit like a rebuilding year.

Not only is it a rebuilding year, but it’s the year of bringing back every actor and actress who ever had a decent run on a show before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a network’s new season slate that was so crammed with people returning from something else. If you can’t make it good, I suppose, make sure viewers recognize the faces.

It’s tricky to get a solid feel »

Twilight actress Ali Faulkner investigates mystery of The Secret Village

22 May 2012 9:52 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Fans of the Twilight franchise will recall Ali Faulkner as Bianca, a human who delivered a message to vampire lawmakers the Volturi in Breaking Dawn Part 1.

Now she enters another shadowy and sinister world in new film The Secret Village, currently shooting in The Berkshires, Massachusetts.

The Secret Village is a psychological thriller that follows Greg, (Jonathan Bennett) an unsuccessful screenwriter, and Rachel, (Ali Faulkner) a beautiful journalist, as they research an outbreak of mass hysteria in a small village.

They rent a house together and start to uncover a secret about ergot poisoning that has affected this village for years. (For those that don't know, ergot is a toxic fungus that grows on rye and can cause convulsions, hallucinations, delirium, psychosis and other symptoms; it's believed by many to be the scientific explanation for witchcraft).

But the cult activity has been kept a secret by the locals (Stelio Savante »

Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels: Only Kristen Wiig Is Exiting 'So Far'; Sudeikis & Samberg Could Stay On

21 May 2012 2:03 PM, PDT | Access Hollywood | See recent Access Hollywood news »

Kristen Wiig had quite the send-off on "Saturday Night Live" (that included her co-stars, Mick Jagger, Arcade Fire - plus "SNL" alums Amy Poehler, Chris Kattan and Rachel Dratch), but where was the fond farewell for fellow stars Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis, who are also rumored to be exiting the NBC sketch comedy series?

"SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels told TheWrap that nothing has been decided about the actors' future on the series.

"Not so far, yeah," he told TheWrap at the Peabody Awards in New York on Monday, when asked about the lack of any mention ...

'Saturday Night Live' recap: Jagger rocks out, and Kristen Wiig bids farewell

20 May 2012 9:19 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

All year, SNL viewers have had one burning question on their minds. And tonight, we finally got an answer: So that is what Chris Kattan looks like now.

Oh, also: Kristen Wiig really is exiting the show. I hate to see her go, but loved watching her leave — that concluding sendoff sketch might have been the sweetest thing on Saturday Night Live since Steve Martin said goodbye to Gilda Radner.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. The Kristen Wiig Farewell Tour kicked off with a Lawrence Welk Show reprise that gave Wiig’s tiny-handed Dooneese one last time to shine (at least, »

Kristen Wiig leaves 'Saturday Night Live' in emotional on-air send-off

20 May 2012 8:01 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

After seven years, one of the biggest "Saturday Night Live" break-out stars of the aughts is leaving studio 8H. Kristen Wiig was given an emotional send-off on the finale episode of Season 37 of the popular late-night sketch show.

The farewell montage featured host Mick Jagger as the principal of a high school at a graduation ceremony and then he sang to her "She's a Rainbow" and "Ruby Tuesday" while she danced with all the cast members. Wiig was visibly holding back tears.

Lorne Michaels, creator of "SNL" all those many years ago, came out too, then Amy POehler and Rachel Dratcher came out on stage as well. Aww. What a lovely tribute to a great cast member.

NBC had not officially announced Wiig's departure yet, but it doesn't come as much surprise. Her contract was up and Wiig has had quite a bit of success outside the show, most notably with her 2011 smash "Bridesmaids. »

Our favorite onscreen male strippers, from Chris Farley to Danny DeVito -- Video

17 May 2012 1:40 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

In case you hadn’t noticed, EW is just a little excited about Magic Mike, the upcoming male stripper movie in which Channing Tatum finally takes off his shirt. While exotic lady dancers have been baring it all on film since before Edison invented the Kinetoscope, their Y-chromosome counterparts haven’t had nearly as much onscreen exposure.

We’re tempted to call Magic Mike an important, pioneering movie about naked dudes — but it’s not the first to shatter Hollywood’s onscreen stripper glass ceiling. Tatum and his costars are pelvic thrusting on the shoulders of giants who are also doing pelvic thrusts. »

As 'SNL' Season Ends, Signs Of A Coming Shift

New York — How can "Saturday Night Live" possibly replace (fill in the blank)?

How many times have we asked that question across nearly four decades?

"Impossible!" said some in 2006 when Tina Fey, Chris Parnell, Horatio Sanz and Rachel Dratch headed for the door, only to be followed two years later by her friend and "Weekend Update" co-host Amy Poehler.

But in their wake grew one of the most versatile, multi-threat casts in "SNL" history, one that firmly established its own "SNL" era. Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis all became cast members in the 2005-2006 season, joining a group that already included Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen and Kenan Thompson.

At the time, "SNL" creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels pronounced them "the wave of the future" and Fey likened herself to a senior seeing "exciting freshmen" arrive. But as this latest season of the sketch institution comes »

Which Glee Star Did The Best “Freaky Friday” Character Swap? Jenna Ushkowitz Weighs In

16 May 2012 11:56 AM, PDT | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

[ video unavailable on this device ]

The second we saw Mark Salling and Cory Monteith dressed as Blaine and Kurt on last night’s Glee, some of us crossed our fingers that the whole two (!) hours would feature this silly stunt.

“It would have been a little bit of overkill [to swap characters for the whole episode],” Jenna Ushkowitz, whose character Tina set off the whole “Freaky Friday” sequence, told VH1 Celebrity this morning, when she stopped by for Big Morning Buzz Live. We were thrilled to see Tina get to show off her chops in full Rachel diva-mode, even if it was all just a dream, and hope that the actress gets more to do as a senior at McKinley next season.

More than anything, all that role-switching seemed like a blast for the actors. So, who did Ushkowitz think had the most fun in someone else’s shoes? “I think that was Mark Salling,” she said of the actor who normally plays Puck. »

"Glee" Episode 321 Recap: "Nationals"

16 May 2012 8:42 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Editor's Note: The recap for last night's first episode (320, "Props") can be found here.

New Directions is going to Nationals, but not before taking us places we'd probably not go.

First, we go to a world where Finn Hudson is full of wisdom and always there making sure his girl has the strength to go on, because if there's one thing we know about Rachel Berry, it's that without constant encouragement she's just a fading flower.

The next place we go is the familiar land of the double-standard.

It's wonderful that we get one same-sex kiss in this episode, a romantic swooning lip-lock between Santana and Brittany, but explain something to me: In a kissing montage where all the other established couples kiss, why don't Kurt and Blaine even touch? After all, it's not like Tina and Mike or Will and Emma kissing means Rachel and Finn can't kiss in the same episode. »

ABC Releases 2012-2013 Schedule and Trailers for 666 Park Avenue, The Neighbors, Zero Hour

16 May 2012 4:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Yesterday was ABC‘s turn for upfront presentations, which meant that yesterday morning the network released its fall schedule and more detailed information about its new 2012-2013 series. We’ve been watching the development of 666 Park Avenue starring Terry O’Quinn for some time now, and had been keeping an eye on the alien comedy The Neighbors, but we got a wonderful surprise today when we saw the full description of midseason (meaning 2013) series Zero Hour starring Anthony Edwards.

We had been told that he played a skeptic whose wife gets abducted, but happily, as we found today, he is a “confessed paranormal junkie” and that he will be running ”a breathless race against the clock to find his wife and save humanity.” Ooo, save humanity! It’s also said to be a DaVinci Code-type hunt with ancient clues. What sealed it for me was the trailer, which we have for you. »

'Glee': New Directions win nationals and Mr. Schue gets lucky

16 May 2012 12:06 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

You know a show is good when the fact that its guest stars include Lindsay Lohan and Whoopi Goldberg is totally eclipsed by solid, entertaining TV. Such was the case Tuesday (May 15) when "Glee's" third- and second-to-last episodes of Season 3 aired. With a two-hour double-dose that took us from the halls of McKinley High to Chicago and a long-sought victory at Nationals for New Directions, a Lot happened.

And, in case you missed it, go back and watch. It's worth it.

After three years, Will Scheuster and his plucky band of misfit singers take the trophy at the National Show Choir Championship with a little help from Meatloaf, Celine Dion and Lady Gaga. Cue the slow-motion. Or we're guessing that's what showrunner Ryan Murphy said since the slow-motion is in fact cued to capture the glee on the faces of the best little show choir in the country.

Glee-ful Highlights From Episodes "Props" and "Nationals"

15 May 2012 10:37 PM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

It's a Glee double whammy this week as the New Directions prep for, and then head to Nationals! As we've seen at the end of each season, emotions are running high, as the kids get ready to take on Vocal Adrenaline. The stakes are even higher this year since a lot of the seniors are graduating, and there's one gleek in particular who's feeling a little left out. Season three has not been my favorite, but both of this week's episodes won me over in a big way. The first hour is both funny and poignant, while the second is very sweet and sentimental, as we get ready to say goodbye to some of the core cast members. The night definitely brings back memories from the first season when the show took the world by storm, and reminded me why I fell in love with it in the first place. »
