A few days ago we brought you word that Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the duo behind the likes of Scary Movie and Meet the Spartans, are developing a Star Wars spoof entitled Star Worlds Episode Xxxive=MC2: The Force Awakens The Last Jedi Who Went Rogue, and now comes word of another Star Wars-themed comedy on the horizon.

Variety is reporting that Tony Dow (Babylon 5, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) is set to direct The Line Kings, which has been written by Billy Riback (Home Improvement, The Suite Life of Zach and Cody) and Steve Rubin (Bleacher Bums, Silent Night).

The film, which is slated to shoot in L.A. in the spring, will follow “a group of rabid Star Wars fans who camp out for four days on Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the iconic Tcl Chinese Theatre after Disney announces that the fans who »

The Line Kings will tell the story of a bunch of Star Wars fans in a queue...

With a new Star Wars film, inevitably, comes a new queue. In the days of the prequel trilogy, there were stories of people camping out for days, even weeks, to be first in line for the new film. And now a new comedy is coming that’s set to salute the commitment of Star Wars fandom.

The movie is called The Line Kings, and it’s set to follow a group of Star Wars fans who duly camp out for four days in Los Angeles, outside of the Chinese Theatre. The reason for the queue? A Disney announcement that those first in line get a walk-on role in the new Star Wars film. The resultant battle between two fan groups is set to be the focus of the movie.

Newswire: Tony Dow from Leave It To Beaver to direct comedy about rabid Star Wars fans

5 February 2017 11:46 AM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

According to Variety, Tony Dow has signed on to direct The Line Kings, a “feature comedy celebrating the endless enthusiasm of Star Wars fans.” Unlike the tragic and ultimately disappointing quest from Fanboys, though, this movie will be about a group of nerds who camp out before the premiere of a new Star Wars movie after learning that Disney will give walk-on roles in the next movie to whoever manages to wait in line for four days. Somehow, this leads to “a battle royale between two fan groups determined to be first.”

Dow has directed a number of TV show episodes across stuff like Coach, Harry And The Hendersons, Babylon 5, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Also, he happens to be same Tony Dow who played Wally Cleaver on Leave It To Beaver, so that’s fun.

“The Line Kings” is written and produced by Billy Riback and Steve Rubin. Plans are to shoot in Los Angeles in late spring.

“The Line Kings” will focus on a group of rabid Star Wars fans who camp out for four days on Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the iconic Tcl Chinese Theatre after Disney announces that the fans who are first in line after four days will win walk-on roles in the next film in the series — leading to a battle royale between two fan groups determined to be first.

Dow has directed episodes of “Harry and the Hendersons,” “Swamp Thing,” “Coach,” “Babylon 5” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.” Riback worked for five seasons of ABC’s “Home Improvement, »
