Son of Anne Douglas, younger brother of Peter Douglas, half-uncle of Cameron Douglas, half-brother-in-law of Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Made his film debut with his father Kirk Douglas in the 1971 western A Gunfight (1971). Later co-starred again with his father in a stand-out episode of "Tales from the Crypt" (1989) entitled "Yellow" in 1991.
Performed on the standup comedy stage for many years with much of his self-deprecating material coming from his status as the 'black sheep' and least successful of the Douglas dynasty.
Having had a lengthy history of problems with drug and alcohol abuse, he was found dead inside his Manhattan apartment on July 6, 2004.
Studied at Claremont College, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and the London Academy of Dramatic Arts.
Childhood friend of Jamie Lee Curtis, whom he once tried to kiss while both were sitting in a tree. Young Jamie Lee pushed young Eric out of the tree; he fell to the ground, which resulted in a hernia that had to be operated on.
