Brad Pitt, Casey Affleck, Andrew Dominik Reteam for ‘Cogan’s Trade’

31 December 2010 10:08 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Director Andrew Dominik proved with The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford that he could create an intensely beautiful film with an insanely long title. He also proved that he could handle a large cast of formidable talent. Fortunately for fans, he’ll get another chance to wrangle a murder of talent. Not only will Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck be starring in Dominik’s forthcoming Cogan’s Trade – a film about comedy and crime in Boston (the only city in the United States with crime) – but Sam Rockwell, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Zoe Saldana, Bill Murray, and Mark Ruffalo are also possible to come on board. If they do, Andrew Dominik will have single-handedly kept the great actors of Hollywood busy and unable to appear in anyone else’s films next year. Well played, sir. The film is set to shoot in Louisiana in March, and it creates another reason to be excited »

Brad Pitt Set To Shoot Cogan's Trade In New Orleans Next Spring

31 December 2010 8:02 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Not only is it exciting that Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck will be reuniting with their Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford Andrew Dominik for the comic heist tale Cogan's Trade, but the movie is actually going to get made, and soon. The local film magazine Scene Louisiana is reporting that the movie is set to start shooting in New Orleans in March, and in addition to Pitt and Affleck, the cast is rumored to include fellow Jesse James star Sam Rockwell, plus Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Bill Murray, Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana. That cast list is insane, granted, and I have a hard time imagining that every single one of those rumored names will actually wind up in the credits list-- for instance, how would Ruffalo balance shooting this in New Orleans with Hulking out for The Avengersin New Mexico around the same time? Brad Pitt has officially signed on to head up Cogan’s Trade, which will be directed by his The Assassination Of Jesse James helmer Andrew Dominik. Just last month, Dominik seemed keen on reuniting with some of the stars of his sophomore directing gig, and it seems his luck's in with the addition of Pitt. The actor will play Jackie Cogan, a gangland enforcer who makes sure that the Mob’s rules are always obeyed. When they’re not, Cogan gets to spill a little of the red stuff. Brad Pitt Confirmed For Andrew Dominik's 'Cogan's Trade'

Filming Begins In Louisiana In March Of all the projects announced in 2010--"The Dark Knight Rises," the untitled Terence Malick, "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son"--none excited us quite as much as "Cogan's Trade." The long-awaited return of Andrew Dominik--who made a scorching debut with "Chopper" before returning with one of the best, if not the best, film of the decade in "The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford"--is an adaptation of the pulp crime novel by George V. Higgins (the author of "The Friends Of Eddie Coyle,)" about a mob enforcer trying to track down the… »

Brad Pitt Confirmed For Cogan’S Trade, Films in March

30 December 2010 5:34 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

How fitting for the best news story I could possibly hope to hear all year (yes, even more satisfying than hearing Tom Hardy would be in Batman 3), to fall on the last day of 2010.

Megastar Brad Pitt has confirmed that he will star in Cogan’s Trade, the crime/heist film that will re-team Pitt with writer/director Andrew Dominik and most likely actors Casey Affleck (attached) and Sam Rockwell (in talks).

All four men are the major players from the 21st century classic Western The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, a movie I dream, obsess and lust over more than Kevin Spacey does his screen daughter’s high school friend Mena Suvari in American Beauty.

Seriously. I forget to pay my bills because the ideas from the film – the images, the music, the performances, the emotion of the poetic masterpiece keeps creeping into my head. »

Bana Also Taking A Meeting On 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter The career of Eric Bana to date has been kind of a funny one. The Australian former stand-up comedian grabbed everyone's attention with a blazing performance, one of the decade's best, in Andrew Dominik's "Chopper," but when Hollywood discovered that Bana could clean up into a chiseled leading man, the actor was thrust into action roles in "Hulk" and "Troy." These were followed by leads in misfires "Lucky You" and "The Other Boleyn Girl," with only an excellent performance in Steven Spielberg's "Munich" proving to be a bright light. Taking… »

Water For Elephants Trailer

16 December 2010 4:06 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Everyone expected Francis Lawrence’s big screen version of Sara Gruen’s bestselling novel Water For Elephants to be a summer blockbuster, probably because Lawrence is the helmer of big budget horror/actioners I Am Legend and Constantine – but Flashpoint Entertainment have released the trailer today and it’s much more a schmaltzy, period romantic drama.

It’s a massive change of pace for Lawrence and also a platform for lead Robert Pattinson to show us that he could have a career outside of those Twilight movies.

Here he stars as a veterinary student who joins the traveling circus as a vet when he gives up schooling after his parents are killed. There he falls in love with marquee performer Reese Witherspoon, the wife of Christoph Waltz – at once a charming circus ringmaster, but if you cross him he turns into Col. Hans Landa and you don’t want to be around him. »
