HBO Renews Game Of Thrones For Two More Season In Least Surprising News Ever

9 April 2014 12:39 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Considering the history we already know about HBO and renewing Game of Thrones, the news that the show is being renewed is only slightly surprising, and only because the show has officially been picked up for two more seasons, instead of just one. Even that is only mildly surprising after we found out that the premiere of the fourth season crashed HBO Go, and now that we know that it had the highest viewership the series has ever managed, it’s probably something of a no-brainer to think that the network would extend the series as long as makes sense.

This is not only good news for fans in the most obvious sense, but also because of the room to maneuver that a two-season cushion gives the production and writing staff for a series. Everyone probably felt pretty comfortable with the series anyway, but having two seasons to play with »

‘Game of Thrones’ Renewed for Two More Seasons

8 April 2014 11:09 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

HBO has ordered a fifth and sixth season of “Game of Thrones,”  HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo announced today.

The immensely popular medieval-style fantasy drama based on George R.R. Martin’s books returned Sunday with a ratings bonanza that drew HBO’s largest audience numbers since the finale of “The Sopranos” in 2007, (and incidentally, record levels of online piracy). It’s also been a marketing blitz for the premium cable channel, which has more than 60 licensing partners selling “Game of Thrones”-themed merchandise.

“’Game of Thrones’ is a phenomenon like no other,” noted Lombardo. “[Series creators] David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”

The show’s increase in popularity has not weakened its roots in the fantasy genre, argued Variety TV critic Brian Lowry in his review of the season four premiere.

“Success hasn’t spoiled the HBO series, »

HBO unsheathes Fourth Season of Games of Thrones on April 6, 2014 plus reveals episode descriptions

8 March 2014 8:04 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Following a matrimonial slaughter, Game of Thrones remerges for a 10 episode fourth season on HBO.

Encouraged by the Red Wedding slaughter in the Riverlands that wiped out many of their Stark nemeses, the Lannisters’ hold on the Iron Throne remains intact…but can they survive their own egos, as well as new and ongoing threats from the south, north and east? While an unbowed Stannis Baratheon continues to rebuild his army in Dragonstone, a more immediate danger comes from the south, as Oberyn Martell, the Lannister-loathing “Red Viper of Dorne,” arrives at King’s Landing to attend Joffrey’s wedding to Margaery Tyrell, and perhaps act on an ulterior agenda. In the north, a depleted Night’s Watch seems overmatched against the inexorable Wall advances of Mance Rayder’s army of wildlings, which in turn is being trailed by an even more formidable foe: the undead White Walkers. HBO Releases Game Of Thrones April Episode Synopses, Hip Hop Playlist and More

7 March 2014 1:00 PM, PST | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Less than a month now separates us from Season 4 of Game of Thrones. If you don’t have time to rewatch Season 3 to prepare, HBO has very kindly provided us with a where-we-left-off synopsis below, followed by a lengthy list of returning cast members and a reminder of their roles, a list of several newbies and a quick word about who they play.

After all that come the somewhat spoilery synopses of April episodes. They’re pretty vague, but it may at least indicate who survives from episode to episode. I’m happy to report that there will be at least one Hodor sighting, but I’m not telling when; you’ll have to look for yourself.

Following that press release, check out the TV spot and press release for the free downloadable hip hop and reggaeton 10-song mixtape inspired by Game of Thrones, entitled Catch the Throne. Because why not? »
