- According to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dobbins died while working on Red Heat (1988) during the set-up for a fight scene in the snow, setting wooden boards down so the actor's feet wouldn't freeze in the snow. He passed out and didn't regain consciousness.
- Suffered a compression lumbar fracture on the set of First Blood (1982) while stunt-driving for Brian Dennehy as "Sheriff Teasle". Dobbins performed a spectacular jump in a Ford LTD, over triple railroad tracks, and landed simultaneously on all four wheels from a considerable height. The scene was re-shot for the movie and this take was not included.
