XLrator Media Pencils In a Fall Theatrical Release for ‘The Scribbler’

XLrator  Media has picked up North American rights to “The Scribbler,” a sci-fi actioner starring a number of familiar TV faces and gearing up for a theatrical run in the fall.

Katie Cassidy (“Arrow”) toplines a cast that also includes Michelle Trachtenberg (“Gossip Girl”), Eliza Dushku (“Dollhouse”), Gina Gershon, Sasha Grey, Garret Dillahunt (“Raising Hope”), Michael Imperioli (“The Sopranos”) and Bill Campbell (“The Killing”). John Suits directs the pic penned by Daniel Schaffer, who also wrote and illustrated the 2006 graphic novel that inspired the film.

Storyline centers on a mentally ill woman who aims to destroy her multiple personalities with an experimental new machine — until she begins to wonder if she herself if one of the undesirable personalities to be erased.

John Suits' upcoming thriller 'The Scribbler' has been picked up for North American distribution by XLrator Media. Based on the original British graphic novel by Dan Schaffer the project revolves around Suki, played by the gorgeous Katie Cassidy -below ('Arrow', 'Kill For Me'), a young woman trying out some experimental new treatment to help remove her unwanted multiple personalities. The movie also stars a host of talented lovely ladies that includes Michelle Trachtenberg ('Gossip Girl'), Eliza Dushku ('Dollhouse'), Gina Gershon ('Bound'), Sasha Grey ('Would You Rather') and Ashlynn Yennie ('The Human Centipede (First Sequence)'). New Dates: Ice Age 5, Anubis, Words, Sex

20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios have scheduled a July 15th 2016 release for a fifth film in the "Ice Age" animated film series. Collectively, the four films to release so far have grossed more than $2.8 billion worldwide.

Anubis

Due to that "Ice Age" announcement, Fox has pushed back its previously announced "Anubis" to March 23rd 2018. An adaptation of Bruce Zick's novel "The Anubis Tapestry: Between Twilights," the story follows a boy's attempt to save his father's spirit from being sent to the Egyptian Underworld by a mummy's curse.

Bad Words

Focus Features have moved up Jason Bateman's dark comedy "Bad Words" from March 21st 2014 to March 14th. Bateman directs and stars in the tale of a 40-year-old man who uses a legal loophole to enter his former school's spelling bee to avenge his loss there as a kid.

Fox Searchlight to Re-Release 12 Years a Slave This January

Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents Stephen Gilula and Nancy Utley announced today that the company will re-release director Steve McQueen's Golden Globe Award nominated film 12 Years a Slave in select cities for a special return engagement on Friday, January 17.

The most-nominated film of the year, 12 Years a Slave has already garnered over 20 major nominations from groups including The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Nominated for 7 Golden Globes including Best Picture), Screen Actors Guild (Nominated for 4 SAG Awards including Best Ensemble), Film Independent (Nominated for 7 Spirit Awards including Best Feature), and has earned numerous Critics Groups accolades including Best Picture from Washington DC Area Film Critics and New York Film Critics Online. Nominees for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® for outstanding performances in 2013 in five film and eight television categories as well as the SAG Awards honors for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles were announced this morning in Los Angeles at the Pacific Design Center’s SilverScreen Theater in West Hollywood.

The big omissions of the day – Robert Redford in All Is Lost and Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf Of Wall Street from the Best Actor category. Twelve Years a Slave” has solidified its status as an awards-season front-runner, leading the SAG Awards nominations with four.

August: Osage County,” “Lee DanielsThe Butler” and “Dallas Buyers Club” each received three nominations for the 20th iteration of the SAG Awards, announced Wednesday morning at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.

“12 Years” — which has been widely regarded as likely to draw a Best Picture Oscar nod — received nominations for cast ensemble, Chiwetel Ejiofor for lead actor, Michael Fassbender for supporting actor and Lupita Nyong’o for supporting actress.

The award season is now in full swing. This morning, SAG-aftra announced the nominees for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Nominations and wins at these awards often add to one’s Oscar hopes, so it’s always interesting to see which projects are getting the most attention.

One neat personal note here is that, since I’ve been a card-carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild for 7 years, I get to cast my votes on all of these. Looking forward to that.

SAG Awards 2014 Nominations: '12 Years a Slave' Takes the Lead

The Screen Actors Guild has released their 2014 nominations honoring their colleagues in film and television. Although the winners won't be announced until January 18, the SAG noms are definitely of interest to Oscar prognosticators.

"12 Years a Slave" led the pack with four nominations, which includes best actor and best supporting actor, best female performance, and best cast. "August: Osage County" did very well, as did "The Butler" and "Dallas Buyers Club."

As the graphic novel adaptation The Scribbler makes its way to the American Film Market next week, EW has premiered the first poster. Arrow's Katie Cassidy stars a young woman confronting her destructive mental illness using "The Siamese Burn", an experimental machine designed to eliminate multiple personalities. The film is directed by John Suits (Breathing Room) and written by Daniel Schaffer, who also penned the original 2006 graphic novel.

Naa founder Gabe Cowan, whose company produced the film, had this to say,

"The Scribbler respects its graphic novel roots and became this insane, intense action movie with tons of cool new sci-fi elements. It's a mixture of ridiculously talented actresses kicking the crap out of each other while also commenting on individuality vs. conformity."

No domestic release date has been secured.
