Studied music composition at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas where his parents taught as professors. Among the professors he studied under was computer and electric music pioneer Dan Beatty, one of the inventors of a number of the technologies that helped enable many of the computer music programs and systems in use today.
