WWE tapings in Hershey, Pa

Dark Match:

Justin Gabriel defeats Kenny Dykstra (former member of the Spirit Squad getting a try-out match)

Nxt tapings:

1) Percy Watson defeated Derrick Bateman.

2) Jtg defeated Yoshi Tatsu.

3) Titus O’Neil defeated Tyler Reks.

Superstars tapings;

1) Tyson Kidd defeated Trent Baretta

SmackDown tapings;

SmackDown opens with Mark Henry beating up Daniel Bryan backstage (I wish the guy who attended who could into more details… was this a cold opening on the beat down or what?) and Henry brings him to the ring and gives him a World’s Strongest Slam. WWE officials pulled Bryan out of harm’s way and then Henry cut a promo on the Big Show for their Survivor Series rematch. Hopefully they mentioned that Henry got fined or something otherwise it’s not a positive message to put out there for a company who support anti-bullying campaigns.

Smackdown 11/11/11. Liverpool, England

11/11/11 I just like writing it. Hunico has made it into the opening credits already. That black taxi can only mean one thing. We’re in England for Smackdown, in “The home of the Beatles” Liverpool.

Randy Orton joins us in the ring with a microphone telling us that he doesn’t play well with others despite being a Survivor Series captain. He says every group he’s had has imploded with him doing something horrible to people who once were his friends. He however says he has no problem being captain since hes a leader not a follower. He has no problem beating up Rhodes, shutting up Christian, doesn’t have a problem dealing with Swagger and Hunico and especially has no problem…Well Wade Barrett was the only man left, but he’s coming to the ring now instead. Not a great reception for the UK’s own Wade Barrett. »

He was since flown to an intensive care unit but there is no further update on his current condition.

Smackdown! November 4th 2011

Street Fight

Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes

What a treat! Street fight starts off with exchanging of holds in the ring, until an Orton dropkick sends Rhodes to the floor. Randy follows but ends up getting sent into the steps. Orton manages a hangman on the top rope then pays back Rhodes sending him into the steps. It’s not long before they fight out into the crowd through that area that always has no fans standing in it. Orton takes him back over the barrier and takes out a bagger for good measure. He throws Rhodes back in the ring, but he slides out the other side. He throws the other bagger into Randy, who drops him with an Rko to take us to commercial. When we’re back, they’re brawling on the top of the ramp and Rhodes rams Orton’s head into the stage. »

Friday Night Smackdown Tapings from Greenville, Sc:

1) Randy Orton defeated Ic Champion Cody Rhodes in a Non-title Street Fight

2) Ted Dibiase defeated Tyson Kidd

World Champion Mark Henry was interviewed backstage and trashed talked Daniel Bryan over his Money In The Bank/Wrestlemania dreams. He challenged Bryan to a non-title match tonight and Bryan accepted.

3) Alicia Fox defeated Natalya

Dashing: The Legacy of WWE’s Cody Rhodes

24 October 2011 10:45 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

In the WWE, a Superstar’s career is made and broken on your personality and gimmick. You could have the best in-ring ability in the world, but if you can’t find a way to connect with the audience and tell a story, there is a good chance your name will be on the Future Endeavours list. Roster members like Santino Marella aren’t beloved by the WWE Universe because of their technical abilities (or lack thereof), but because their character and showmanship has always entertained them and made them laugh. In the world of Sports Entertainment, as WWE calls it, wrestling ability is almost secondary.

This is something that Cody Rhodes has clearly learned during his time in the company. I remember watching his very first appearance back in 2007, in a backstage segment with his father, the charismatic and much loved Dusty Rhodes, and Randy Orton. He would continue »

WWE Night of Champions 2011 Review – Mark Henry & John Cena New World Champions

19 September 2011 11:38 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big News: Mark Henry finally became a World Champion some fifteen years after his WWE debut when he pinned Randy Orton following a world’s strongest slam. Meanwhile John Cena became the New WWE champion after he made Alberto Del Rio tap to the Stf and Triple H maintained his position as COO when he defeated Cm Punk in a match laden with interference.

Opening video package highlighted the build to the nights big matches whilst asking some key questions about the competitors:

“Will the Viper lose his power to Mark Henry

“Will Del Rio lose control of his destiny to John Cena

“Will Triple H lose his control of his command at the hands of the outspoken Cm Punk.”

Great job here of creating dramatic intrigue surrounding these key clashes.

This Sunday the fourth edition of the Night of Champions PPV takes place in Buffalo, New York with all the company gold on the line. I have previewed all of the matches (at time of press) and looked at each bout in terms of its build, likely match quality and who should be booked to win in order to continue storyline and title momentum in the coming months.

Fatal Four Way Match for the United States Title: Dolph Ziggler (C) vs Jack Swagger vs Alex Riley vs John Morrison

The Build: This match was booked on Raw this past Monday after Dolph and Swagger had lost a tag bout to Riley and Morrison. The heat between Dolph and Swagger has been going on for a while though as both men have been competing for the affections and support of their manager Vickie Guerrero.

WWE Smackdown Review 16-09-11 – Edge Appreciation Night!

17 September 2011 2:06 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Friday Night Smackdown

September 16th 2011 (Taped Sept 13th)

Toronto, Canada

It is Edge Appreciation Night which means we must be in Canada. And here he comes to kick off the show. Later on he hosts the Cutting Edge with Orton and Henry. But first, mic him up. “It feels great to stand in a WWE ring, but it feels even better to do it in Toronto!”. He misses competing, his friendships, and his entrance theme and pyro. But most importantly he misses the fans. “Thank You Edge,” chant.

He can’t finish his next thought however as disfigured Cody Rhodes interrupts. Instead of Edge plugging his appearance on the sci-fi show Haven, Cody does it for him. Rhodes thought Edge was above sucking up. Meanwhile his bag squad cover up some ugly faces at ringside. Edge tells him to do something himself and stop blaming everyone else. Cody thinks Edge is bitter. »

WWE Smackdown Review 09-09-11 – Mark Henry Delivers Another Beat Down To Orton

11 September 2011 5:01 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big News: Randy Orton defeated Cody Rhodes in an exciting main event match up. His celebration was short lived however as Mark Henry arrived shortly afterwards and took the viper to the mat with the world’s strongest slam before pressing a chair against the champs neck whilst taunting him.

They aired a really cool, grainy and snappily edited video package of Mark Henry’s recent path of destruction to start the show.

Mark Henry came out and talked about the hall of pain claiming that his best years are not behind him despite being in the industry for fifteen years. He then promised to win the title at Night of Champions.

Zak Ryder came out and told Henry that Theodore Long had instigated a no contact policy between Orton and Henry prior to their match of Night at Champions. Both men however would be in action tonight in separate warm up matches. »

The Big News: Sheamus defeated Mark Henry in the main event but the world’s strongest man got the last laugh with a post-match beat-down. Meanwhile Orton, Christian and Sin Cara all gained warm up victories in preparation for their big matches on the live broadcast of Smackdown next week in which Orton will defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Christian inside a steel cage.

Show opened with a graphic advertising a Sheamus versus Mark Henry rematch from SummerSlam.

Bret Hart came out to start the show! He received a great ovation from his home crowd as he told them that he had been appointed the role of General Manager for one night only. He then moved onto the subject of the live Smackdown broadcast taking place next week by announcing that Mark Henry would challenge Randy Orton for the World Heavyweight championship.

WWE Smackdown Review – 19/8/11 – Mark Henry Wins Battle Royal To Face Randy Orton

The Big News: Mark Henry eliminated Sheamus and Sin Cara to win a number one contenders battle royal, Alberto Del Rio and Daniel Bryan engaged in a terrific tussle and Cody Rhodes defended his Intercontinental Title in a rematch with Ezekiel Jackson.

They aired a SummerSlam video package capturing images of Orton defeating Christian for the world heavyweight championship.

Teddy Long was out in the ring to announce Randy Orton as the New World Heavyweight Champion. Randy Orton celebrated with his title and then cut a dull promo talking about how fans had become so used to seeing Christian at the beginning of Smackdown whining each week but he assured everyone that he is not Christian, his name is Randy Orton and he is the New World Heavyweight Champion. Good of him to clear all that up for us.

He said that he used to respect Christian but came to »

WWE Smackdown Review – 12/08/11 – Randy Orton Slays A Giant!

The Big News: Randy Orton defeated Khali in the main event whilst a previously hesitant Christian changed his tune in coming to realise the positive implications of a no hallsbarred encounter.

Triple H started the show. He droned on relentlessly before finally hitting home the point that he’s under a ton of pressure as the new Chief Operating Officer but is loving every minute of his role. He put over the upcoming Cena and Punk match a SummerSlam as being one of the biggest in history and then turned his attention to Smackdown, booking a series of matches including an Intercontinental Title clash with Jackson defending against Cody Rhodes, a Money in the Bank versus Money in the Bank bout between Alberto Del Rio and Daniel Bryan, and a World Championship warm up match for Randy Orton who was pitted against Khali.

WWE Smackdown Review 5/08/11 – Christian Lands Pinfall Blow To Randy Orton

7 August 2011 2:01 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The Big News: Christian gets the better off Randy Orton in tag team action whilst Sheamus continues to antagonise Mark Henry.

Show began with a video recap of Mark Henry’s recent destruction before changing tone to highlight Sheamus standing up to him from last week. The question asked was whether or not Henry had finally met his match.

Match: Sheamus defeated Khali via pinfall

Before the match it was confirmed by the announcers that Sheamus will meet Mark Henry at Summerslam. As such this clash with the 7ft plus Indian was very much designed to put the Dubliner over as a big threat to Mark Henry’s dominance.

It was actually a surprisingly decent affair considering just how clumsy and incompetent Khali is inside the squared circle. Khali got on top early with various clotheslines and big slaps before Sheamus powered back by trapping his opponent in the ropes »

Thq Announces Availability Of New Dlc For WWE All Stars

3 August 2011 7:01 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Thq have today unveiled some brand new downloadable content for WWE All Stars – released recently in April – the hugely enjoyable, energetic newest addition to the canon of WWE video game releases. The new content – available worldwide now via Xbox Live and PlayStation Network includes the following:

The Southern Charisma Pack – Big Boss Man, Michael “Ps” Hayes and “World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry

Personally the biggest draw there is the opportunity to play as Big Boss Man, who was one of the characters that I grew up with first time round and who for some reason was the last of my WWE action figures not to be unceremoniously thrown away by the too cool for school teenage version of myself who for some reason regrettably aligned those figures with the distinct possibility of never losing my virginity. Bloody peer pressure.

Look at that eyebrow! This announcement does beg the question »

WWE Smackdown Review 29/07/11 – Randy Orton Sends Violent Message To Christian

30 July 2011 12:59 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Triple H came out to start the show. He addressed the Raw World title situation by stating that both the recently resigned Cm Punk and John Cena have legitimate claims to the WWE title throne and that he will attempt to figure out a solution by Monday night.

He then turned his attention to the Smackdown world title and was quickly interrupted by the World Heavyweight champ Christian who ironically complained about Teddy Long sucking up to Randy Orton whilst trying to suck up to Hunter himself. Triple H was having none of it though and booked Orton’s rematch for Summerslam in a match that will be No Holds Barred.

Raw superstar R-Truth for some reason came out on Smackdown and again felt that he was being made fun by Hunter after another humorous exchange. Triple H organised a match for Truth to face Orton later in the show »
