Hannibal Season 3 Episode 7 Review – ‘Digestivo’

18 July 2015 9:31 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Ricky Church reviews the seventh episode of Hannibal season 3…

Hannibal’s adventure through Italy came to a close in ‘Digestivo’ as Hannibal and Will were brought to the waiting hands of Mason Verger and his demented nurse/cook/personal sociopath Cordell. This storyline was wrapped up very satisfactorily, tying up any lingering plot threads left for the Verger family and the threat Mason posed. In fact, ‘Digestivo’ could have even acted as a series finale as many of the characters gained some level of closure by the episode’s conclusion.

The reunions between Hannibal and the people at Muskrat Farm were tense from start to finish. There was a palatable sense of dread as the fates Mason had in mind for Hannibal and Will were given in extreme and gory detail. Hugh Dancy expressed a lot of Will’s anxiety through just his facial expressions; in the dinner scene, once »

Hannibal Season 3 Episode 5 Review – ‘Contorno’

3 July 2015 10:03 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Ricky Church reviews the fifth episode of Hannibal season 3…

After all the set up so far this season, the endgame of Hannibal Lecter’s time in Florence has begun as multiple characters converged on the city in a big way. Things escalated very quickly for nearly every single character; no one was sitting on the sidelines anymore in ‘Contorno’.

While there was little movement on Will Graham’s front, he learnt a little bit more about Hannibal and Chiyo’s past. Building off last week’s extended flashback and even his introduction to Chiyo, there was a lot of emphasis placed once again on what exactly Will plans to do once he catches Hannibal. He admitted to Jack last week he warned Hannibal of his impending capture because he not only wanted the doctor to run, but wished to leave with him too. After some digging, Chiyo concluded Will wants »

"Hannibal" Review & Recap: Season 3, Episode 5, "Contorno"

Mads Mikkelsen in "Hannibal"Photo: NBC Wait... so she really did throw him from the trainc The fifth episode of this third season of "Hannibal", titled "Contorno", was a weird one for me. For one I appreciate the fact we're all caught up, but at the same time I don't feel as if aspects of what we're dealing with entirely work. That said, once Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) gets rolling it's impossible to say anything negative about this show, as you'd much rather just sit back and watch. This week's episode begins with Will (Hugh Dancy) and Chiyo (Tao Okamoto) heading to Florence to hunt Hannibal. Their scenes are overly dramatic and begin spelling things out we are already more than aware of. Chiyo says to Will, "If you don't kill him, you are worried you are going to become him." Is anyone not clear on this yetc In fact, scratch that, »

"Hannibal" Review & Recap: Season 3, Episode 4, "Apertivo"

26 June 2015 7:21 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Gina Torres and Lawrence Fishburne in "Hannibal"Photo: Brooke Palmer / NBC It felt like tonight's episode of "Hannibal" would have been better served as the first or second episode in the season, not the fourth as most everything it covered was pretty much well established to this point. It wasn't a bad episode by any means, it merely seemed to stop the season in its tracks. Perhaps, however, that's a good thing, offering anyone that wasn't up-to-date a chance to play catch up while offering fans (or #Fannibals as has become the popular Twitter hashtag following the show's cancellation at NBC) an emotionally charged episode as Jack (Lawrence Fishburne) finally must say goodbye to Bella (Gina Torres) and Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas) makes a strong first appearance in this third season. "Hannibal" Review & Recap: Season 3, Episode 3, "Secondo"

18 June 2015 8:45 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Mads Mikkelsen in "Hannibal"Photo: Brooke Palmer / NBC I can't be certain on this, but was last week's episode the first episode of "Hannibal" to not include someone's deathc I only ask because this week's episode, titled "Secondo" made up for that missing aspect of last week's episode as not one, but two characters find themselves on the wrong side of pointy objects. This marks the third episode of this third season to be directed by Vincenzo Natali and he's toned down his visual flair here, though he's still fond of reflections, be they in knives or liquid, using them to move from one scene to the next. Though, can we all agree the best scene transition was from the cutting of a bird's leg to the chopping of a human hand as Hannibal prepares the forearm of the late professor Sogliato (Rinaldo Rocco) into a delectable carpaccio(c) to »

Hannibal season 3 episode 2 review: Primavera

17 June 2015 5:30 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Bryan Fuller is a master of sleight of hand, as this thrilling episode of Hannibal season 3 shows...

This review contains spoilers.

3.2 Primavera

Boy, do I love good sleight-of-hand. And this week’s Primavera did it extremely well. But back to that in a moment.

We had been promised in PR materials that we’d learn the fate of those Hannibal butchered back in Baltimore: Jack, Alana, Will, and Abigail. But of course, it would have been unlike the patient Fuller to actually let spill all the secrets at once, so for now, narratively speaking, the status of Jack and Alana remains a mystery. Although, since we know both Lawrence Fishburne and Caroline Dhavernas are regulars this third season, it’s doubtful that either is dead—though Primavera does suggest an interesting alternate possibility for the return of Alana’s character. But what we do know is that Will and Abigail survived the attack. »

"Hannibal" Review & Recap: Season 3, Episode 2, "Primavera"

11 June 2015 9:01 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Last week's season three premiere episode of "Hannibal" ended with the image of what appeared to be Anthony Dimmond's bloody torso on display opposite the imagery of Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) folding Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man into the shape of a human heart. In the second episode of season three, titled "Primavera", we get a closer look at what exactly Hannibal has done as Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) arrives in Italy, for reasons, and argue, even he isn't entirely sure of. But I don't want to get too far ahead, let's circle back to the very beginning of the episode. "Primavera" dedicates it's first seven-and-a-half minutes to the season two finale, after which we find Will in the hospital, presumably four months or so after the bloody events that took place at Hannibal's and I have to admit, as soon as I saw Abigail (Kacey Rohl) walk into »

Hannibal season 3 episode 1 review: Antipasto

9 June 2015 11:14 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Hannibal is back with a glorious new episode. Here's Laura's review of Antipasto...

This review contains spoilers.

3.1 Antipasto

Just like every other devotee to Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal, I’ve spent the 12+ months since its last episode trying to convince everyone I know to watch the show. The reasons for this are many.

First, frankly, it is, quite simply, an amazing piece of cinema. Yes, I know it’s on television, but trust me, it might as well be on the silver screen at a film festival for the level of auteuritsm on display. If you aren’t watching, you’re missing out.

Second, many people don’t watch because they are convinced that the show is nothing but an excuse to bring more violence to television. And I am not going to pretend that the show isn’t violent. The season finale last year was nothing less than »
