Troy DeVolld products
Probably best known for his work in the reality television genre, DeVolld is also an accomplished comedy writer, contributing to shows with Los Angeles's F.A.K.E. Gallery Players and Second City as well as a number of made-for-the-internet shorts.
Troy's writing career started in comics in 1991 with the publication of his first book, "Ike and Kitzi," wrapping five years later in 1996 with the cult underground freebie "Jinx Oople: Psychic Performance Artist."
It was a chance re-connection with an old friend that led to his career in reality television, beginning with an entry-level position as a logger/transcriber for an MTV series in 2000. Since then, Troy has worked on dozens of network and cable series as well as a handful of films and other side projects.
In addition to his ongoing producing efforts, Troy also lectures at colleges, universities and to international audiences, doing his best to debunk the notion that reality shows are truly "unscripted" and arming interested students and would-be reality professionals with the tools needed to break into the ever-expanding genre.
DeVolld's book "Reality TV: An Insider's Guide to TV's Hottest Market" was released in 2011 through Michael Wiese Productions, the world's leading publisher of books on screenwriting and filmmaking. He also maintains a website dedicated to the process at realitytvbook.com.
DeVolld is an active member of The Caucus for Producers Writers and Directors, The Writers' Guild of America West's NonFiction Writers Caucus, and The Caucus Foundation. He was, until recently, the West Coast alumni organizer for Full Sail University, of which he is a 1996 graduate and 2010 Hall of Fame Inductee.
DeVolld was the creator of the independent comics "Ike and Kitzi" (1991) and "Jinx Oople, Psychic Performance Artist" (1996) prior to his career as a writer.
Regular contributing sketch writer for LA's Fake Gallery.
Former fine art consultant
Graduate of the Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts; LA Alumni Coordinator for same from 2001.
2010 Inductee, Full Sail University Hall of Fame.
Got the nickname "StoryTroy" while working on a show with more than one "Troy" on staff; crew would call for "StoryTroy" to differentiate between DeVolld and the other crew member.
