Colin Firth's son makes feature debut in British rom-com

Exclusive: Filming wraps on Sasha Collington’s Love Type D.

Will Firth, son of The King’s Speech actor Colin Firth, is to make his film debut in British romantic comedy Love Type D.

The film, which has wrapped principal photography, also marks the feature debut of director Sasha Collington and stars Australian actress Maeve Dermody as a woman who finds she has “loser in love” gene.

Firth plays John, an intern at the office where main character Frankie (Dermody) works. Firth, 25, attended London’s East 15 acting school appeared in several productions including King Lear and Robin Hood before appearing on stage at London’s Tristan Bates theatre in Mike Alfreds’ Blood Wedding, by Federico Lorca, where he played the Moon.

Kate Bosworth joins Sam Riley in BBC One thriller SS-gb from Spectre writers

Kate Bosworth has joined Sam Riley in a new BBC thriller from the writers of Spectre.

The Superman Returns actress will play an American journalist named Barbara Barga in SS-gb, a five-parter from Spectre writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

Jason Flemyng, James Cosmo, Aneurin Barnard, Maeve Dermody and Rainer Bock will also appear in the series, directed by Philipp Kadelbach.

Based on Len Deighton's alternate history novel of the same name, SS-gb takes place in Nazi-occupied London and follows British detective Douglas Archer (Riley) investigating a black market murder.

However, Archer finds himself dragged into a much darker and treacherous world, with extremely high stakes.

"Archer is a compelling and complex character," said Riley. "He is a good guy struggling to reconcile his job as a policeman within the repressive Nazi machine.

"Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have written a gripping screenplay that pays homage to Len Deighton's novel. »

The 2nd annual FilmQuest boasted the Us premiere of the Australian psychological thriller The Fear of Darkness written and directed by Chistopher Fitchett. Maeve Dermody stars as Dr. Sarah Faithfull a psychologist with plenty of baggage to call her own. Shes brought in to handle the case of young Skye Williams (Penelope Mitchell) after Skye is suspected in the murderdisappearance of her boyfriend. Five Aussie films will vie for the $100,000 CinéfestOZ Film Prize, with two of the entries to have their Australian premiere at the Festival in August.

Backtrack, Now Add Honey, Pawno, Putuparri and the Rainmakers and The Daughter have each been selected out of over 30 submissions to make up the shortlist for the prize, now in its second year.

The winner will be announced at the Festival on Saturday 29th August, 2015.

The Film Prize is awarded to the producer of an Australian feature film (including feature documentaries) and last year was taken out by Robert Connolly for his family feature Paper Planes.

The film, which Connolly also directed, went on to enjoy huge success at the Australian box office and will be released by distribution companies Lionsgate in the UK and in North America by Eone.

To coincide with Agatha Christie's 125th anniversary, BBC One and Lifetime are teaming up for an all-star mini-series based on arguably the Grand Dame of mystery's most famous work - "And Then There Were None".

Set on the eve of World War Two, the story follows ten strangers with dubious pasts who are lured to an isolated rock near the Devon coast in southern England. Cut off from the mainland, their host is mysteriously absent.

BBC One's adaptation of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None has gone into production, with an all-star cast including Douglas Booth, Sam Neill and Aiden Turner.

The story is the best-selling crime novel of all time with 100 million copies sold across the globe. It will be adapted into a three-part series by Sarah Phelps (The Casual Vacancy, Great Expectations).

Set in 1939, ten strangers are invited to Soldier Island off the Devon coast where all are accused of terrible crimes.

When one is killed, the group must come to terms with and investigate a possible murderer amongst them.

Amongst the group are "a reckless playboy, a troubled Harley Street doctor, a formidable judge, an uncouth detective, an unscrupulous mercenary, a God-fearing spinster, two restless servants, a highly decorated general and an anxious secretary".

Distributors in the Us, the UK and Turkey have bought The Fear of Darkness, a supernatural thriller from writer-director Chris Fitchett.

Producer Mark Overett is planning to stage Q&A screenings attended by Fitchett and key cast around Australia following the April 11 world premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival.
