Guadalajara: Leonardo Zimbron, Jesus Magaña Team for ‘Invisible’ (Exclusive)

14 March 2017 9:33 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Guadalajara, Mexico — Producer Leonardo Zimbron (“We Are the Nobles”) and writer-director Jesus Magaña (“The Alien,” “Alice in Marialand”) are teaming on “Invisible,” a Mexican superhero movie for kids which marks the new ambitions of a diversifying Mexican film industry

A Mexican remake of Academy Award winning Gabriele Salvatores’ “Il Ragazzo Invisible” (The Invisible Boy), the title also underscores a repositioning of Mexican movies in a crossover-to-upscale mainstream space as digital distribution, dynamited by robust competition in Mexico between Netflix, Blim and ClaroVideo, affords increasingly significant outlets for this kind of fare.

From Nicola Giuliano and Francesca Cima, the producers of Academy Award winner “Sleeping Beauty,” “The Invisible Boy” is set in a singular Trieste of white-stoned monumentalist architecture, released in 2014, the original “The Invisible Boy” turned on Michele, 13, sensitive, bullied, is love with the lovely Stella, who wears  a super hero’s costume to a Halloween party which is mocked for its dinkiness, »

I tried to stay silent yesterday when I read about an Overboard reboot but I cannot stand by and watch this happen.  It’s like every shred of my youth is getting ripped out of me with these remakes.  First Dirty Dancing with Abigal Breslin on network TV and now Overboard with Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez?  Who the hell is Eugenio Derbez?  And every single time I see Anna Faris I think of three things:  Her Cameron Diaz based character in Lost in Translation, all of the Scary movies, and her in the movie Waiting.  That’s it.  That’s all.  Picturing

Overboard Remake Sets Anna Faris Opposite Eugenio Derbez

7 March 2017 8:11 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Splash, Ocean’s Eight and the female-led 21 Jump Street spinoff are just some of the many gender-swapped properties incubating in various stages of development, and Variety brings word today of another: Overboard.

First released in 1987, Garry Marshall’s romcom originally starred Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, and Edward Herrmann, and though the idea of a modern-day remake has been floated before – at a time when Jennifer Lopez and Kathrine Heigl were in contention to star – Overboard has finally locked down its two principal actors: Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez. The latter is on board to play one of Mexico’s wealthiest playboys, who takes a tumble from his extravagant boat only to fall into the lap of Anna Faris’ single, working-class mother. Following a literal fall from grace, Derbez’s forgetful lead is under the impression that he is, in fact, the husband of Faris’ character. Cue the romantic shenanigans.
