Beauty and the Beast Beats Power Rangers and Life in Weekend #2

Beauty and the Beast Beats Power Rangers and Life in Weekend #2
After shattering box office records last weekend with an amazing debut of $174.4 million, nothing was expected to stand in the way of a second straight weekend win for Beauty and the Beast. The live action fairy tale adaptation squared off against three newcomers this weekend, Lionsgate's Power Rangers, Sony's Life and Warner Bros.' CHiPs, although, as expected, none of these new releases managed to come close to Beauty and the Beast. The Disney blockbuster easily won its second weekend in a row with an estimated $88.3 million.

Last weekend, this long-awaited live-action adaptation broke Batman v Superman's record for largest March opening ever, and it also broke records for the largest debut for a PG movie, and had the biggest IMAX debut ever for a PG film as well. While it only opened against one other movie last weekend, the R-rated thriller The Belko Experiment, which debuted in roughly 1/4th

Can Power Rangers Beat Beauty and the Beast at the Box Office?

Can Power Rangers Beat Beauty and the Beast at the Box Office?
Disney's Beauty and the Beast somehow managed to exceed the expectations of most box office analysts, with a record-breaking opening weekend of $174.7 million, beating the Sunday estimates by over $4 million. This long-awaited live-action adaptation broke Batman v Superman's record for largest March opening ever, and it also broke records for the largest debut for a PG movie, and had the biggest IMAX debut ever for a PG film as well. While it only opened against one other movie last weekend, the R-rated thriller The Belko Experiment, which debuted in roughly 1/4th of the theaters Beauty and the Beast was in, this live-action fairy tale will have much more competition heading into its second weekend, facing Lionsgate's Power Rangers, Sony's Life, Warner Bros.' CHiPs and River Rain's sports drama Slamma Jamma, although Beauty and the Beast should still easily reign supreme.

Box Office Mojo reports that Power Rangers, Life, CHiPs

Life Trailer #2: Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds Face a Deadly Alien Species

Life Trailer #2: Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds Face a Deadly Alien Species
With so many reboots and sequels happening in Hollywood, there is a lot of desire for some original, or at least non-franchise related movies. Sony is going to provide sci-fi fans with something original next month in the form of Life, which features Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds dealing with a deadly new form of life discovered on Mars. Now, Sony has released a brand new, full-length trailer for Life that gives us a much better idea of what to expect from the new sci-fi thriller.

Sony Pictures uploaded the brand new trailer online, which gives us our best look at Life yet. The studio is also airing a couple of Super Bowl spots for the movie, which have also been released online already. This new trailer expands on what we saw in the first teaser and looks to be a serious homage to Ridley Scott's original Alien. In the video,

‘Life’: Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal Fight to Save Earth in New Trailer
All of Earth is relying on Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, and the rest of their astronaut crew in the first trailer for “Life,” released Sunday ahead of the Super Bowl.

The film follows team of scientists aboard the International Space Station whose mission of discovery turns to one of primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth. The trailer starts off light-hearted enough, but once the crew realizes that the life form they discovered may be more than they bargained for, the stakes set in.

Life Super Bowl Trailer: Ryan Reynolds Fights a Scary Alien

Life Super Bowl Trailer: Ryan Reynolds Fights a Scary Alien
Ryan Reynolds got a big boost to his career last year with Deadpool, and while we have to wait a while for Deadpool 2, we are going to be seeing him back on the big screen very soon. He is going to be starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the new sci-fi thriller Life, which just so happens to be written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who penned the screenplay for Deadpool. Now, Sony Pictures has released their brand new Super Bowl spot for Life online.

Sony clearly has a lot of confidence in Life, or at the very least they want to get as many eyeballs on it as possible, since a 30-second slot of ad time cost an average of $5 million. In any case, this new video gives us a nice, brisk look at what to expect from the movie, which will be hitting theaters late next month.

Life Trailer: Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal Discover a Terrifying Alien

Life Trailer: Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal Discover a Terrifying Alien
In 1979, Ridley Scott used one simple word. Alien. And it became an instantly recognizable franchise. Now, Sony Pictures hopes to capture that same kind of simplicity with their likeminded new sci-fi thriller Life. The first trailer debuted last night during The Walking Dead, and it proved to be quite scary.

Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.

Life is directed by Daniel Espinosa. He first made a name for himself with the action crime drama Easy Money, starring Joel Kinnaman. He would then go onto direct Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington in the mystery thriller Safe House.

Let Me In – 6 New Clips Deliver The Mood And Odd Flavor

I’ve put up a lot on Let Me In already, but now that some good notes are coming back from Toronto, I have six more clips to share. Speaking of Toronto, I confusingly heard someone say it was, “too true to the original,” whatever that might mean. I suppose it could indicate the lack of necessity in creating something that was too close to the material it’s working from, but it struck me as odd.

At any rate, I’ve be hearing good press from those who have managed to take it in, and if you’ve seen the original, this is surely something that is on the top of the list of things to look forward to.

I’ve put the clips together into a playlist, along with the trailer and an earlier clip I had, so take them in and enjoy. And, let me know what you think.

First Official Image of Chloe Moretz in Let Me In

Overture Film has released the first official image of Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl in Kick-Ass) as Abby in director Matt Reeves Let Me In. Based on the best-selling Swedish novel Lat den Ratte Komma In (Let the Right One In) by John Ajvide Lindqvist, and the highly-acclaimed film of the same name, the remake has dealt with a lot of online scorn as everyone loves the original film and no one wants to see it ruined.

While this may shock people…I’m open to the remake. Yes, I love the original film, but hardly anyone saw it. Perhaps the remake will get a lot more people to seek out the original.

Of course if Matt Reeves has made a terrible movie, I take back my kind words. But I loved Cloverfield, and I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Hit the jump for the full synopsis,
