John Dearth was born on October 16, 1920 in West Ham, London, England as John H. Paton. He was an actor, known for Look Back in Anger (1959), The Adventures of Robin Hood (1955) and Doctor Who (1963). He died on March 17, 1984 in London.

He was the father of actress Lynn Dearth.
He once lost a lead film part because the producer felt Dearth bore too close a resemblance to James Mason. Barry Letts stated on the DVD commentary of "Planet of the Spiders" that this experience embittered him for the rest of his life.
He was a member of the BBC Radio Repertory Company during the 1960's.
