Practiced medicine before being elected Governor of Vermont (still
practiced medicine while Lt. Governor).
Graduated from Yale with a BA in Political Science.
Received his Medical Degree, in 1973, from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University.
Was the frontrunner for the Democratic Nomination in early 2004 before
a disastrous loss in Iowa and an infamous speech afterwards in which he
let out a primal scream that disenchanted many voters.

Member of the Vermont State House of Representatives (1983-1987).
In 2002, after allocating several million dollars to revamp the River
Valley Technical Center (RVTC) in Springfield, Vermont the RVTC board
voted to name the institution the Howard Dean Education Center.
