Bruce Forsyth: 'I'm too mentally and physically shattered for Strictly'

24 May 2014 3:03 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Bruce Forsyth has spoken about quitting Strictly Come Dancing, admitting that another series would leave him "mentally and physically" shattered.

The 86-year-old, who will be replaced by Claudia Winkleman, has hosted the show since it began in 2004.

Speaking to The Sun, Forsyth said: "You do start to feel a bit stale, like a bit of fruit you've put in a bowl. You look at it one day and think, 'Oh - that's going off'.

"There are many reasons why I packed it in, but one was that I didn't want to do this series and suddenly in the middle of the show say, 'I can't do it any more'. I would have hated that."

Claiming to work as hard as the dancers, Forsyth said that he knew the previous series would be his last when it came to an end.

"I had to announce each couple, run upstairs for their dance, »

Claudia Winkleman has been confirmed as the new host of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing.

Winkleman replaces Bruce Forsyth and joins Tess Daly on the Saturday night, multi-award winning reality show.

The presenter said that she was "honoured" and "thrilled" to be given the job.

Forsyth stepped down from the show after 11 series earlier this year. He will return for Christmas and Children in Need specials, but Winkleman and Daly will host the main series throughout the autumn.

"I have loved Strictly since the second it appeared on our screens and I am honoured and thrilled to now be part of the Saturday night team," said Winkleman.

"Working alongside Tess is always fantastic and I can't wait to spend the weekends with her, our amazing dancers and the greatest judging panel on the planet. Sir Bruce is a living legend and we'll all miss him very much."

10 Things About... Dancing on Ice

7 March 2014 8:26 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

After nine eventful series, ITV's Dancing on Ice finally hangs up its skates this Sunday (March 9).

Since its launch on January 14, 2006, the show has given us some truly memorable comedic moments - with Todd Carty's stumble off the rink in series four certainly springing to mind.

As ITV prepares to broadcast the last televised Bolero performance from Olympian duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and crown its final pair of winners, we present ten facts about Dancing on Ice in celebration of all things icy and sparkly.

1. Since 2006, Torvill and Dean have taught an incredible 111 different celebrities, comprising a total of 700 choreographed routines and a staggering 260 days on the ice. This all amounts to a grand total of 3,432 hours spent coaching. Somebody give them another medal!

2. Alongside all this training and coaching, the Olympic champions have also performed 90 different routines themselves for the show over the nine years.

Dancing on Ice: Sam Attwater dismisses fix claims following exit

3 March 2014 9:48 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Sam Attwater has responded to claims that his exit from Dancing on Ice All-Stars was a fix.

There have been suggestions that the EastEnders actor and his partner Vicky Ogden were denied a place in the final because they haven't signed up for the show's forthcoming arena tour.

Attwater and Ogden were eliminated in last night's semi-final after finding themselves in the skate-off with Ray Quinn and Maria Filippov.

Asked about the fix claims on ITV's This Morning, he said: "Yeah, that's what was going around... but it is down to the public so if the people picked up the phones then I would have been in the final.

"There are certain dates of the tour that we can do, so we are trying to work that out and I think there's 20 shows out of the 37 or something that we can do, so hopefully we can work something out and be guest appearances or something. »

Mindy Newell: Where is your next idea coming from?

This is a column for all you “I want to be a writer” writers out there.

The Xxii Olympics officially opened on Friday, February 8th, 2014 in Sochi, Russia.

Thirty years ago the Xiv Olympics took place in Sarajevo in what was Yugoslavia and is now Bosnia-Herzegovina, although the region is usually just called Bosnia.  Thirty years later the Olympic village, the ice rink, the bobsled and luge tracks, the ski jump, the other sports facilities and hotels are gone, destroyed during the Bosnian war and the 44-months-long Siege of Sarajevo which killed nearly twelve thousand of the city’s residents.

Thirty years ago this week I watched and was swept away, like everyone else by Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean’s romantically brilliant ice dance set to Ravel’s Boléro.  (I just watched it again courtesy of YouTube, and it still captures my heart.)  The routine set off a bit »

Torvill and Dean: The Perfect Day – TV review

8 February 2014 3:50 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The purple silk and Ravel's Bolero, the effortless grace and the utter Britishness of it all: this recreation of the figure skaters' 1984 Winter Olympics triumph was enough to move one to tears

If ever it happens that I am called upon to define Britishness for anyone, I am going to point to the moment about a third of the way through last night's Torvill and Dean: The Perfect Day (BBC2) when Jayne Torvill is explaining why she had the only single room in the British 1984 Winter Olympic Team's apartment in the athletes' village. "… Because … I was the most senior member … and … the one who was … it was most likely that … that it was going to be my turn to win a medal." It took about 10 minutes of agony for her to find a way of not conveying that in 1984 she and Christopher Dean were Britain's greatest – okay, only – hope of winning a gold medal. »
