Shot Caller Review

This Friday for many there is only one film that matters at the cinema, Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi, but it isn’t the only new release out. Altitude have taken the bold move to release their latest movie, Shot Caller, the same weekend as Rian Johnson’s take on the popular space opera. Granted, Shot Caller is screening only in a limited amount of cinemas, but if you fancy something a little less mainstream, then this may very well be the film for you.

Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Games of Thrones) and Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Punisher), Shot Caller tells the sorry tale of Coster-Waldau’s Jacob, a typical American businessman who finds himself in prison after a tragic car accident.

Queen Biopic Replaces Bryan Singer with Eddie the Eagle Director

Queen Biopic Replaces Bryan Singer with Eddie the Eagle Director
It only took 20th Century Fox three days to find a new Bohemian Rhapsody director, bringing aboard Dexter Fletcher to take the reins from the fired Bryan Singer. What remains to be seen is if Dexter Fletcher will get any credit for his work at all, with sources stating that there are only two more weeks left of production, unless the new director decides to reshoot some scenes. The director will also oversee the post-production process, keeping the studio on track to release the film in December 2018.

Sources claim that 20th Century Fox had started quietly searching for directors even before production was shut down following Bryan Singer going Awol, failing to return to the set for three days after the Thanksgiving break. The studio, however, denies this claim, and rumors that anyone other than Dexter Fletcher had been offered this directorial gig before Bryan Singer was officially fired. Sources

Dexter Fletcher replaces Bryan Singer on Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody

British filmmaker Dexter Fletcher has been hired to replace ousted director Bryan Singer for the final few weeks of production on Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, starring Mr Robot actor Rami Malek as iconic frontman Freddie Mercury.

Deadline is reporting that Fox has hired Fletcher, best known for Eddie the Eagle and Proclaimers musical Sunshine on Leith, to shepherd the final two weeks of production on the film, as well as potential reshoots.

The director was originally attached to the project back in 2013, when Ben Whishaw was set to portray Mercury.

It is not known whether Fletcher will get a directing credit on the finished film, with the final decision down to the DGA, though the release date of December 2018 remains in place.

Bryan Singer releases statement in response to his firing from Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody

Bryan Singer has released a statement in response to the news of his removal as director of the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. According to the director, the claims against him have gotten way out of hand. Here is his statement in full, courtesy of THR:

“I wanted nothing more than to be able to finish this project and help honor the legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen, but Fox would not permit me to do so because I needed to temporarily put my health, and the health of my loved ones, first… Bohemian Rhapsody is a passion project of mine. With fewer than three weeks to shoot remaining, I asked Fox for some time off so I could return to the U.S. to deal with pressing health matters concerning one of my parents. This was a very taxing experience, which ultimately took a serious toll on my own health.

20th Century Fox fires Bryan Singer from Bohemian Rhapsody

Over the weekend it was announced that production on the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody has been halted with two weeks of production remaining owing to the “unexpected availability” of Bryan Singer, who was said to be suffering “a personal health matter.”

Well, THR is reporting that 20th Century Fox has now fired Singer from the project, which “reflected an escalating clash between Singer and [Freddie Mercury] actor Rami Malek and was caused by Singer’s being missing from the set.”

Singer had apparently frequently been absent from the set, with cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel having to step in to direct scenes, with Malek then complaining to the studio about Singer’s unreliability and unprofessionalism. Tom Hollander, who portrays Queen manager Jim Beach, is also said to have quit the film over Singer’s behaviour before being convinced to return.

Things are said to have reached a head with a confrontation between Singer and Malek,
