Emmy Watch: Jimmy Smits talks Nero's dark turn on 'Sons of Anarchy'

Emmy Watch: Jimmy Smits talks Nero's dark turn on 'Sons of Anarchy'
Between now and June 28, the deadline for Emmy voters to submit nomination ballots, EW.com will feature interviews with some of the actors and actresses whose names we hope to hear when nominations are announced on July 18.

Sons of Anarchy has never earned an acting Emmy nomination, but with a dozen career nods to his credit, including one win for L.A. Law, and a character as layered as sensitive ex-addict/Og gangster Nero Padilla, Jimmy Smits might be the man to change that. After meeting Smits at a Directors Guild of America function honoring Paris Barclay, an executive producer and

Sons of Anarchy Recap: Can Clay Be Trusted?

Sons of Anarchy Recap: Can Clay Be Trusted?
Last week's episode of Sons of Anarchy was even deadlier than usual. Between Eli's (Rockmond Dunbar) wife Rita's (Merle Dandridge) death to Carla's (Wanda De Jesus) sudden and shocking suicide—in front of Gemma (Katey Sagal) and Nero (Jimmy Smits)—a lot of stage blood hit the ground. All that, and Samcro has agree to traffic more drugs for Pope–which is good for the bank account, but obviously comes with risks. So much for getting out of the muling game. Clay Still Plays Dirty: Clay's (Ron Perlman) recent shadiness—everything from his fake lung issues to his motivations for treating Nero with respect—all comes down to the fact that he and his cronies have been behind the home...

Donal Logue joins Sons of Anarchy season 5

So seeing Donal Logue at the Sons of Anarchy premiere makes total sense now! Logue, who should still be on FX with "Terriers" (yes I'm still bitter) is a guest star on 'Sons of Anarchy.' EW, who has all the Soa scoopage rights this season, announced the news. Logue joins Jimmy Smits, Wanda de Jesus, Dave Navarro and Joel McHale as an awesome guest star. Logue, according to EW, "will play a brilliant and dangerous U.S. Marshal named Lee Toric who is forced into retirement because of his history of violence. He.ll appear in the drama.s final three episodes before it wraps its current season on Dec. 4."

Sons of Anarchy 'Small World' a mendacious one too, some thoughts

Last night's episode continues the neck deep story telling that Kurt Sutter is so good at. We said goodbye to two great female characters, Carla (Wanda de Jesus) and Rita (Merle Dandridge), one by self-inflicted means, the other as gang / crime collateral. We also see Unser (Dayton Callie) call Gemma (Katey Sagal) out on her manipulative sh*t, and she didn't take it well. Gemma is at a crossroads and she's medicating at the local dive bar, which of course is never good, especially for lone females. Grifter guest star Joel McHale is chatting our inebriated needy biker mama up, and from the looks of the trailer for next week, pulls a Brad Pitt move from the

Sons of Anarchy's Latest Casualty Speaks Out, Breaks Down that 'Provocative' Bedroom Scene
Warning: If you’ve yet to watch Tuesday’s killer Sons of Anarchy, avert your eyes now! Everyone else, read on…

Never a show to shy away from a high body count, Sons of Anarchy on Tuesday delivered not one, not two but four deadly doozies in the span of an hour.

The first causality of the night was Sheriff Eli Roosevelt’s wife Rita (played by Merle Dandridge), who succumbed to the gunshot wound she sustained in last week’s episode. Also meeting his maker in the bloody installment was the corrupt cop who helped orchestrate Opie’s behind-bars murder,

'Sons of Anarchy' says goodbye, 'Stolen Huffy' foreshadows major changes, some thoughts

Give it up for Wanda de Jesus (Carla), an actress whose fierce energy was the magic elixir that has brought our Gemma (Katey Sagal) back in fighting form. Gemma needs a ballsy female antagonist to sparkle and shine. It's why we miss June Stahl (Ally Walker) at times.Ah June Stahl, executed by our dear departed Opie (Ryan Hurst), whose wake is a sea change for Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and even Tara (Maggie Siff), each of them resolute in their respective roles now. Opie's death has cemented a clear vision and end game for Jax to plan for, as ghosts from his past arise ('Wendy', Drea de Matteo) who might alter the course. Drea plays Wendy

Tara Summers Rolls with Maggie Siff in Sons of Anarchy

  • Boomtron
There’s not a lot of information out there on this one so excuse me for the brevity, it almost got passed us to begin with (as this is a few days old), but I know how everyone wants to know all things Samcro. With that in mind, Tara Summers has landed a role in Sons of Anarchy season 5, and according to Deadline, a recurring one. Not a lot of details beyond that the english actress will portray Karen Dunhill, who we will see working with Maggie Siff’s Tara.

If Summers looks familiar you probably caught her on Boston Legal as Katie Loyd or (as pictured above) with my girl Buffy on Ringer. She will has also be in the new David E. Kelley pilot, the TNT medical drama Monday Mornings. She’s just the latest in a mob of new characters we know are coming to Charming, following the already announced Ashley Tisdale,

Maggie Siff and Brotherhood in Sons of Anarchy Season 5 Before the Anarchy

Today we have a couple more Sons of Anarchy season 5 primers, one just to sent to us by FX and another from last week that slipped my mind that I’m adding on for a double dos of Samcro love now. Both are part of the “Before the Anarchy” featurettes FX has been releasing leading up to the upcoming new season, offering insights into characters, old and new, as season 5 draws nearer. These two focus on Maggie Siff’s Tara and the Sons of Anarchy boss himself (and on-screen Otto) Kurt Sutter.

Siff talks about her new darkside and her status as the new Samcro first lady with Jax’s ascension, with Sutter sprinkling other general tidbits about Tara. The second video is about Sutter trying to establish a sense of off-camera camaraderie – citing his experience with Shawn Ryan on The Shield – with his cast and crew and how it translates for the audience on-screen.

Ashley Tisdale has Charlie Hunnam’s Back in Sons of Anarchy

Among the host of new faces rolling into Sons of Anarchy in the upcoming 5th season on AMC, and perhaps the most interesting on paper, is Ashley Tisdale, former Disney girl turned into Samcro setting high roller escort for Kurt Sutter next season. Tisdale is set to play Emma Jean and appear in at least two episodes of season 5, and we now get a fresh look at the former Hellcat via a still featuring her with Charlie Hunnam’s Jax, the new Samcro boss.

TVline debuted the image, adding to a set of images featuring Tisdale released in June, that presented a scene that looks like she was getting roughed up. Jean and Jax look tight in this image, and one wonders if there will be any Maggie Siff/Tara drama stemming from this, though it would seem somewhat trite now, and Tisdale’s facial expression doesn’t exactly spell comfort.

Sons of Anarchy Season 5 – The Bikes, Mayan Style.

FX sent us over another featurette for the upcoming Sons of Anarchy season 5, continuing their “Before the Anarchy” pieces. This one strikes to the heart of the show, focusing on the Samcro rides: the bikes themselves. We get an inside look to some of the thoughts regarding the unique design and models of the Samcro (or rather, The Mayans) stable, introduced by Emilio Rivera, or as you probably know him, Marcus Álvarez, the Mayan’s boss, as they film a scene in Long Beach.

You may have seen some of the previous releases of ”Before the Anarchy”, which have included one that offers us a glimpse behind the scenes of season 5 newcomer Damon Pope (Lost’s Harold Perrineau) and Unser, and another that focused on the duo of Chucky and Gemma. Any insight on the new characters are welcome, as FX and Kurt Sutter has loaded up the new faces

Damon Pope and Unser Before the Anarchy for Sons of Anarchy Season 5

We got a look behind the scenes of Sons of Anarchy upcoming fifth season earlier this week from the vantage of Chucky (Michael Ornstein) and Gemma (Katey Sagal), and now another Sons of Anarchy duo is next up in this Before the Anarchy video sent to us by FX. Current fans already know about Dayton Callie’s (who I loved in Deadwood) Wayne Unser, whose been with the show almost since the beginning (the second episode), but this tease offers us a look at one of the new faces Samcro is going to have to deal with, one Damon Pope.

Harold Perrineau, who most people know from Lost, signed on to Sons of Anarchy last May to portray Pope, an ex-drug kingpin in Oakland. What’s Pope’s angle with Samcro? Remember Laroy’s girl who got hit in Tig’s hit and run intended for Laroy? That was Damon Pope’s daughter,

Sons of Anarchy Season 5 – Before the Anarchy with Chucky and Gemma

FX sent over this new featurette made to prep us for the upcoming 5th season of Sons of Anarchy. Titled “Before the Anarchy: “Chucky and Gemma” it, as you’d expect, features Michael Ornstein and Katey Sagal (whose Gemma was also central to a recent season 5 teaser) talking about the paths of their characters for the upcoming season. Some of the major changes I think are rather plainly, and effectively, illustrated in the poster above that was released earlier this month, perfectly illustrating the Samcro reality as it stands now.

You already know both Gemma Chucky, but Sons of Anarchy does have some new players lined up for us next season, including Chuck Zito, Wanda de Jesus, and Ashley Tisdale (who we’ve already seen pics of in the mix and drama), and a very cool story involving new Samcro member, Greg the Peg.

Sons of Anarchy Season 5 – Samcro Division Poster

The latest in the recent mob of Sons of Anarchy season 5 promos is a poster illustrating division, Samcro style. Charlie Hunnam’s Jax – the new president, he has the patch – has the circle of trust huddled around him, leaving Ron Perlman’s Clay rolling solo. The new pecking order – something Hunnam has talked about – isn’t the only new thing fans have to look forward in the upcoming season, with new faces like Harold Perrineau (of Lost), Jimmy Smits (of why were you in the Star Wars prequels?), and Chuck Zito, Wanda de Jesus, and Ashley Tisdale, of whom we’ve already seem some shots of in her Sons of Anarchy style.

related | Sons Of Anarchy Season 5 Teaser, Gemma Drama

It’s a pretty bad ass poster and I’ve come to realize that just about anything Samcro set in black and white or grey scale is going to look pretty hard.

Sons of Anarchy Season 5 – Kingpin’s Right-Hand Man Cast

Sons of Anarchy is rolling back into to town and FX this September, and the list of new actors and characters awaiting fans come the Fall keeps mounting up. The latest is that Billy Brown, who you may have caught on episodes of last season’s Dexter, will be on the other side (or at the very least used to be) of the law in Sons of Anarchy. Brown is set to play August Marks, who will play the right-hand man to another new face in the upcoming season, Lost’s Harold Perrineau.

related | Sons Of Anarchy Boss Twit Beefs With Sandman (Not Neil Gaiman)

Deadline is reporting the association to Perrineau whom, as we previously reported, was playing the role of Damon Pope, an ex drug kingpin (who for some reason still needs a right-hand man). As I mentioned before, Brown’s casting is just one of several recent additions to the cast,

Blu-ray Review: Manly Movies Released in Time For Father’s Day

Chicago – It’s that time of year again when studios look deep into their catalogs and pull out a few lucky titles for potential consumers to give dear old dad on Father’s Day. What got the HD upgrade for the 2012 holiday? Warner Bros. has released one underrated gem and two mediocre “manly movies” in “A Perfect World,” “Blood Work,” and “U.S. Marshals.”

Rating: 3.5/5.0

Clint Eastwood’s “A Perfect World” is a very, very good film, the true gem in this trio of holiday releases and the one that I would recommend well above the other two titles. However, one could do a lot worse than “Blood Work” (also directed by Eastwood) or the sequel to “The Fugitive,” “U.S. Marshals.” I suppose if I needed to pick a second place, it would be Eastwood’s flawed-but-entertaining thriller. “U.S. Marshals” just doesn’t hold a candle to the Oscar-winning film that inspired it.

Sons of Anarchy Season 5 Tabs Jesus for Nero

With all the crazy new characters already being cast for Season 5 of Sons of Anarchy, I’m surprised they’re still finding room for more, with the latest being Wanda de Jesus. Unfortunately, I’ll be able to go through everything we know about who she will be playing in a single sentence. However, while there isn’t much information regarding what role de Jesus will play, you can bet it will be impacting when we consider one other already revealed character: Neron “Nero” Padilla.

related: Sons of Anarchy Season 5 Lands ex Kingpin

According to Deadline, de Jesus has a multiple-episode arc as a smart and sexy associate of Nero’s named Carla. And that concludes all the information we have on this new character. From here on out anything I say about Carla is purely speculative and based on what we already know about Nero. As has been reported,
