The Defenders Season 1 Review

23 July 2017 9:10 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Four episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

Five years have passed since Marvel Studios changed the face of franchise filmmaking with The Avengers, the culmination of four separate superhero stories into one epic team-up. Since writer/director Joss Whedon’s film popularized this serialized narrative for big-budget properties, seemingly every studio has begun creating its take, with everything from Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe to Universal’s Dark Universe vying to match Marvel’s critical and commercial success (with incredibly mixed results). Now, the company that made shared universes the next big thing is applying that same approach to the small screen with The Defenders.

The series finally unites Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones) onscreen, with the quartet of heroes taking on a common threat that could destroy the whole of New York City. Since »

Netflix has just unveiled a new trailer for Marvel’s The Defenders, which features narration from Marvel legend Stan Lee, along with a brief glimpse of Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle!

While this seems to indicate that the Punisher will be joining Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in the team-up series, it is possible this is a shot from his solo series, seeing as the trailer does feature footage from the individual heroes’ previous shows. Perhaps we’ll find out for sure during Marvel and Netflix’s Defenders panel at the San Diego Comic-Con tomorrow night. In the meantime, check out the new trailer here…

Finn Jones and Mike Colter still hoping for a Defenders and Avengers team-up

While it looks unlikely at this point that we’ll get to see The Defenders teaming up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on the big screen, Marvel’s Netflix stars Finn Jones (Iron Fist) and Mike Colter (Luke Cage) haven’t ruled out a crossover – and in fact, they’d like to see it playing out on the streaming service.

“We’re part of the same universe,” said Jones in aninterview with Games Radar. “If there ever was a mash-up between the Avengers and the Defenders, I think it’d be really nice to see the Avengers come to the Netflix world. It’d be way more interesting to see those characters fleshed out the same way as our characters are, rather than just see our characters do some big fucking fight scene! There’s nothing cool about that.”

Splendidly, of course. We never doubted this show!
