After choosing not to address the Harvey Weinstein situation last weekend, “Saturday Night Live” took on the scandal in a sketch set at a New York Film Festival panel last night. Viola Davis (Leslie Jones), Marion Cotillard (Cecily Strong), and the fictional Debette Goldry (Kate McKinnon) discuss sexual harassment in Hollywood — namely the “uncanny” resemblance between Weinstein’s face and genitals.

One week after Saturday Night Live made last minute cuts on jokes about Harvey Weinstein‘s sexual misconduct scandal, the sketch show came out swinging against the movie mogul.

During Saturday’s “Weekend Update” segment, Colin Jost and Michael Che jumped right in with Weinstein jokes, combined with the news of Apple’s new emojis.

“Apple announced it will add hundreds of new emojis to its iOS system including a person at a spa, a vomiting face and a shushing finger — finally giving emoji fans the ability to describe what it was like to work for Harvey Weinstein,” host Jost said. »

‘Saturday Night Live’ Review: Kumail Nanjiani Helps Deliver The Season’s Strongest Episode Yet

15 October 2017 3:02 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

An actual comedian hosting “Saturday Night Live”? That’s a concept as simple as… Well, as simple as an actual comedian hosting “Saturday Night Live.” While there’s definitely nothing wrong with actors, musicians, etc. hosting the show, there’s typically a better chance for a comedian’s creative voice to come through in a show that’s known for often having a static voice. So it’s no surprise “The Big Sick”/”Silicon Valley”/”Burning Love”/plenty of funny things star Kumail Nanjiani and his voice make the perfect choice for “Saturday Night Live” host.

Of course, you can’t expect any host — comedian or not — to singlehandedly change the structure of the show. Especially when the season is already off to a wobbly start.

'Saturday Night Live' Takes Aim At Harvey Weinstein Scandal, Pulls No Punches With Biting Commentary

15 October 2017 12:26 AM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Saturday Night Live took on the Harvey Weinstein scandal over the weekend with some seriously biting commentary that addressed the allegations against the producer, and the culture of sexism and sexual harassment that permeates Hollywood.

Colin Jost and Michael Che opened this week's "Weekend Update" by breaking down some of the excuses Weinstein presented for his alleged actions, and his reported intent to seek treatment for sex addiction.

"Somehow, I don't think that's going to help anybody," Jost said. "He doesn't need sex rehab, he needs a specialized facility where there are no women, no contact with the outside world, metal bars, and it's a prison."

Che went on to explain why the scandal was a difficult subject to tackle for Saturday Night Live and comics in general.

"This is a tough spot for a comedian, because it's so hard to make jokes about sexual assault, but it's so easy to make jokes about a guy that looks »

Shonda Rhimes Being Inducted into TV Academy Hall of Fame

13 October 2017 7:01 AM, PDT | Women and Hollywood | See recent Women and Hollywood news »

Rhimes: Today/YouTube

The woman who introduced the world to Meredith Grey, Olivia Pope, and Annalise Keating is being recognized alongside all-time TV greats. Shonda Rhimes has built an empire on the small screen, and now she’s been inducted into the TV Academy Hall of Fame. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest batch of inductees also includes late comedian Joan Rivers.

The 2017 honorees will be celebrated at the the upcoming annual Hall of Fame ceremony on November 15.

Best known as the creator of long-running medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” and Kerry Washington-starrer “Scandal,” Rhimes is also an exec producer on Viola Davis-led “How to Get Away with Murder.” Her other credits include “Private Practice” and “The Catch.” Back in August she signed a multi-year deal with Netflix that sees her producing new series and other projects exclusively for the streaming giant.

“I really hate the word ‘diversity,’” Rhimes has said. “[Diversity] suggests something… other,” she explained. “As if it is something… special. Or rare. Diversity! As if there is something unusual about telling stories involving women and people of color and Lgbtq characters on TV. I have a different word: normalizing. I’m normalizing TV. I am making TV look like the world looks. Women, people of color, Lgbtq people equal way more than 50 percent of the population. Which means it ain’t out of the ordinary.”

“All of these individuals are innovators who have shaped television and left an indelible mark on the medium and our culture,” said Hayma Washington, chairman and CEO of the Television Academy. “We are honored to welcome the latest group of distinguished individuals and look forward to showcasing their impacts for future generations.”

Previous inductees include Oprah Winfrey, “Veep” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and “Golden Girls” creator Susan Harris.

Shonda Rhimes Being Inducted into TV Academy Hall of Fame was originally published in Women and Hollywood on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story. »

Film Review: ‘Te Ata’

12 October 2017 4:19 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The life and career of Te Ata, the Native American trailblazer who celebrated her people’s culture through performance and, in doing so, helped educate the country about Native traditions, is undeniably uplifting. But the well-intentioned biopic is ungainly, overtly articulating everything it doesn’t need to yet failing to explain much of what starts out as unclear about the tale. Lacking both fluidity and complexity, “Te Ata” is a functional but one-note tribute told through educational storytelling that, unlike its subject, doesn’t manage to inspire.

Director Nathan Frankowski and writer Esther Luttrell sabotage their work’s momentum from the start. In a 1906 opener, a young Mary Frances Thompson (Boriana Williams) narrates origin myths about her Chickasaw nation — located on land that would eventually become Oklahoma — while her father T.B. (Gil Birmingham) and her uncle, Chickasaw governor Douglas Johnson (Graham Greene), discuss their tribe’s rapidly changing political future. It’s a clunkily assembled introduction, »
