William H. Macy Wins SAG Award for Male Actor in Comedy Series
William H. Macy took home took home the Male Actor in a Comedy award at the SAGs on Sunday night for playing the alcoholic patriarch on Showtime’s “Shameless.” This makes two years in a row for Macy, who had won in an upset against favorite Jeffrey Tambor for “Transparent” last year. In light of the recent #MeToo movement and allegations of sexual misconduct against Tambor, the actor wasn’t in the running at all this year.

“Even our lines are given to us by writers, it’s our job… to tell the truth,” said Macy. “I think it’s a glorious way to make a living especially in this day and age when people don’t think that’s important.”

Aziz Ansari Skips SAG Awards After Sexual Harassment Allegations

Aziz Ansari Skips SAG Awards After Sexual Harassment Allegations
Aziz Ansari was a no-show at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, in the wake of a recent web article that accused the actor of inappropriate sexual conduct. Ansari was nominated this year in the category of outstanding male actor in a comedy, but the “Master of None” creator/star was not in the room as the nominees were read.

Ansari’s absence comes after an anonymous 23-year-old woman told Babe that she and the actor went on a date last year that “turned into the worst night of my life” when he initiated sexual contact after she expressed discomfort.

Ansari likely wanted to avoid any questions about the current controversy surrounding allegations that he coerced a woman into a sexual act, although he did appear at the Critics Choice Awards last week, which took place on Jan. 16, after the story had already posted.

In response, Ansari said that

2018 PGA Awards: All the nominees in the 3 film and 9 TV categories for Producers Guild of America prizes

The Producers Guild of America hands out its awards on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. That is the night before the Screen Actors Guild does the same. Unlike, the latter, which will air on TNT and TBS, the PGA ceremony is not televised. However, it is an equally important stop on the road to the Oscars.

The PGA Awards has an enviable track record at presaging the eventual Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards. The guild and the academy have agreed on 19 of the most recent 28 Best Picture champs. Last year, all nine Oscar nominees for Best Picture numbered among the 10 PGA contenders; only “Deadpool” was snubbed by the academy. The PGA prize went to “La La Land” while the Oscar was (eventually) won by “Moonlight.”

2018 SAG Awards TV predictions: Complete racetrack odds in all 9 categories

The 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards will take place Sunday, January 21, in a live ceremony airing on TNT and TBS (8/7c) hosted by Kristen Bell — the show’s first host ever. While it’s just the latest stop on the long Oscar campaign for films, it’s the final major awards show of the season for TV folk until the Emmys in September.

SAG doesn’t have perfect correlation with the Emmys, partially due to the fact that the former doesn’t feature supporting TV categories and because SAG voters love repeat winners more than anyone. SAG’s top award, for ensemble, has also honored a handful of casts whose shows have not won a series award at the Emmys, including three-time champs “Orange Is the New Black” and Downton Abbey,” and two-time champ “Boardwalk Empire.”

Stranger Things” and “Glow” are the most nominated shows with four each in a field dominated by Netflix,

SAG Awards predictions secret: Size matters for comedies like ‘Orange is the New Black,’ ‘Glee,’ ‘Desperate Housewives’ …
When it comes to rewarding the best comedic cast on television, the SAG Awards often simply go with the biggest cast. Recent winners like “Orange is the New Black” (2014-2016), “Glee” (2009), “Desperate Housewives” (2004-2005) and “Ally McBeal” (1998) all prevailed thanks in part to having the most cast members on the voting ballot. Interestingly enough, all four of these were also hour-long dramedies, which suggests SAG voters are more apt to give the prize to large casts when they’re also in large productions.

What does this statistic mean in terms of predicting the 2018 SAG Awards? “Orange is the New Black” once again boasts the biggest comedy cast with a record-setting 45 men and women nominated for the Netflix prison series. That’s up from 37 cast members in 2016, 34 in 2015, and 40 in 2014. Of this year’s other nominated ensembles, Netflix’s “Glow” consists of 18 cast members, followed by HBO’s “Veep” at 15, ABC
