Vr specialists Samhoud Media announce China plans

Exclusive: Samhoud looking to open Vr cinemas all over the world.

Amsterdam-based Vr specialists Samhoud Media has announced in Cannes it will open its first Vr cinema in China next month (on 10th June.) This will be located in Beijing. 

Samhoud Media is also launching itself as a distribution company for Vr and is a producer of Vr content too.

Among its recent Vr movies is 17-minute drama High Five, directed by Frank Lammers.

The announcements come as Samhoud looks to open Vr cinemas all over the world.

The aim is to have 50 to 100 cinemas by the end of the year - and eventually to open 2000 to 3000 cinemas worldwide.

Samhoud aims to open 100 cinemas in China this year alone. It is working with partners everywhere from Dubai to Spain and Scandinavia.

The company launched its first venue, The Vr Cinema, in Amsterdam 18 months ago - and the site has already attracted over 60,000 visitors. Its sites are »

One of my favorite virtual reality pieces at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival was the animated Invasion! from San Francisco-based Baobab Studios. The short film, directed by Baobab co-founder Eric Darnell, was reportedly downloaded over one million times (including in my household, where my kids loved its Google Cardboard version), making it the most-downloaded virtual reality piece yet, and in September a feature film adaptation was announced. 2017 Nashville Film Festival: Complete Winners List

The 2017 Nashville Film Festival has officially come to an end after selecting its winners and honorees Saturday. The rapidly growing competition received over 5,500 submissions this year, and 303 of those films and shorts were selected.

Diego Luna, Constance Wu joins Vr series ‘Rainbow Crow’

New additions join John Legend in the lead; first episode to debut at Tribeca Film Festival.

Vr company Baobab Studios has announced that Diego Luna and Constance Wu are voicing characters in the series Rainbow Crow.

A launch date for the series has not been announced, although the first episode debuts at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday and will screen multiple times after that.

Rainbow Crow is a Native America story that hails from the Lenape tribe about a crow, who journeys far from home to bring light back to the world. 

Luna will voice Moth, while Wu will lend her talents to Skunk – Rainbow Crow’s companions who help him along his journey to save the forest. John Legend voices the lead and serves as executive producer.

Baobab co-founder and chief creative officer Eric Darnell (Madagascar and Antz) directs the series.

Native American series to premiere at Tribeca next week.

Legend will also serve as executive producer on the story of how the crow sacrifices his multi-coloured plumage and becomes charcoal black in order to return light to the world.

The performer and his longtime partner and collaborator Ty Stiklorius are among the creative team on Rainbow Crow, whose first episode will premiere at Tribeca.

“Rainbow Crow brings storytelling and music together in a way no one else has yet in virtual reality,” Legend said. “It’s an incredible medium for inspiring a journey of self-discovery and finding your way in times to darkness.

Tribeca: John Legend to Voice, Executive Produce Virtual Reality Animated Series

John Legend is making his foray into virtual reality with Rainbow Crow, an animated series from Vr startup Baobab Studios.

In teaming up with Baobab, Legend executive produces and provides the voice of the title character in the series, which is directed by the Vr studio’s co-founder (and Madagascar director) Eric Darnell. Legend's longtime partner and collaborator, Ty Stiklorius, has also boarded the creative team.

Tribeca 2017 Lineup: The Obamas’ Virtual Reality White House Tour Leads Experimental Storytelling Program

The 16th annual Tribeca Film Festival announced today its lineup of immersive films, including 29 Vr and interactive projects in its Storyscapes and Virtual Arcade exhibits. Tribeca was one of the first U.S. festivals to showcase experimental storytelling projects, and as such the festival attracts world premieres from some of the vastly growing industry’s leading creators and studios.

Highlights include a virtual reality tour of the White House led by Barack and Michelle Obama; a new Vr collaboration from Chris Milk and by Pharell Williams; a mystery starring Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola from interactive studio Eko; and a multidisciplinary exploration of women of color’s experience through the lens of technology, society and culture, titled “NeuroSpeculative AfroFeminism.”

Tribeca Film Festival Sets 2017 Lineup of Vr and Interactive Titles (Full List)

World-premiere virtual reality projects including Kathryn Bigelow’s look at rangers at a poacher-beseiged African park and an immersive experience tied to India’s biggest movie franchise are among the works on tap for the Vr and interactive component of the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival’s slate.

The newly announced additions to the festival’s overall slate encompass the six entries in Storyscapes, the competitive section of programming dedicated to the intersection of film, tech and storytelling, along with the 23 titles lined up for the festival’s Virtual Arcade. Storyscapes titles range from personal projects such as “Draw Me Close,” Jordan Tannahill’s memoir about his relationship with his mother; to Hyphen-Labs’ scifi-themed entry “NeuroSpeculative AfroFeminism”; to an immersive recording of a Holocaust survivor’s testimony in Gabo Arora and Ari Palitz’s “The Last Goodbye.”
