17 September 2017 9:53 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Saturday’s Evening Before bash in Century City was once again the starriest draw of Emmy weekend, and it was all for a most worthy cause. The 11th annual Emmy-eve fundraiser raised more than $2 million for the Motion Picture & Television Fund.

The outdoor lawn space was packed with CEOs, showrunners, Emmy nominees and other stars. The activation booths ringing the prime schmoozing spots included temporary tattoos courtesy of sponsor Ford and the chance to win free flights from sponsor Delta Airlines.

As ever, it’s the conversations that make Evening Before such a memorable night. Donald Glover was spotted in a huddle with “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer. “Better Call Saul’s” Bob Odenkirk had a long chat with his former “Saturday Night Live” colleague Greg Daniels and YouTube’s Susanne Daniels. Ryan Murphy communed for a time with “Modern Family’s” Jesse Tyler Ferguson. “This Is Us” star Sterling K. Brown laughed it up »

Critics Reveal the TV Character They First Identified With — IndieWire Survey

15 August 2017 9:32 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)

This week’s question: When was the first time you saw a TV character that you felt represented you or your experience? Who was it? How did you feel? (This is jumping on the #FirstTimeISawMe hashtag about representation.)

Eric Deggans (@deggans), NPR

This is a tough question, because I don’t think I’ve seen a character like me yet on television (black comics nerd who loves playing drums, has a thirst for pop culture, spent his teens grooving to Frank Zappa and Parliament/Funkadelic and has a passion for racial issues and opposing stereotypes in media. Nope, haven’t seen that character yet). But the first time I saw »

Fox has had early talks about a King of the Hill revival

9 August 2017 9:27 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It looks like the beloved animated series King of the Hill could be set to join the likes of The X-Files, 24 and Prison Break, with Fox Chairman and CEO Dana Walden revealing that the network has had talks about reviving the show.

“We have had preliminary conversations with Greg Daniels and Mike Judge,” Walden tells Variety. “I would like to explore that. We had a very preliminary conversation about that. Given what’s going on in the country, I think they had a point of view about how those characters would respond. It was really just a first, exploratory, ‘Are you excited about this?’ They were both excited about it but they’re both very busy individually so it’s about finding time.”

King of the Hill ran for 259 episodes between 1997 and 2009, and revolved around the Hills, a Texan family headed up by Hank Hill, a hard-working and traditional family man. »
