Classical and musical stage actor for almost four decades, best known with audiences for his marvelous baritone singing roles but well regarded as a Shakespearean performer.
A seasoned player with the Williamstown Theatre Festival, he once played Mr. Webb in a 1959 production of "Our Town" that featured Thornton Wilder himself as the Stage Manager.
He has 3 children--Christopher Duke, Catherine Stevens, Laura Jane.
Both of his parents were educators--his father, Raymond, was principal of New Paltz High School, where his mother, Harriet Belcher Cunningham. was a teacher.
