He was a writer, known for The Wonderful Stories of Professor Kitzel (1972), The Making of 'Aladdin': A Whole New World (1992) and The Magic of David Copperfield V: The Statue of Liberty Disappears (1983). He was married to Hind Noel Rassam. He died on July 30, 2015 in Dobbs Ferry, New York, USA.

He is caricatured in two Walt Disney animated feature films. In The Rescuers (1977) he is "Mr. Snoops". In the "Rhapsody in Blue" sequence of Fantasia 2000 (1999) he is "Flying John".
In 1983, Culhane wrote a whole book on the making of Fantasia (1940).
